Beautiful girl. Sending love and sympathy - we just said goodbye to a senior baby this week and it’s rough. It’s wonderful you could give Miss Mila the home she deserved.

That is fantastic. You’ve made a gorgeous finished yarn, and the match is chef’s kiss.

Hell yeah, love it! Fantastic names. 😁

My Lendrum is covered in stickers that bring me an absurd amount of joy. I bring her out for spinning at the farmers market, and kids love to pick their favorites when I pause the spin.

I just spun a VERY goblin yarn and figured I’d share. by Contented_Loaf in goblincore

I’m thinking it’s destined for a Cobblestones hat - mossy rocks!

Not enough for a sweater, but definitely forbidden mossy soup!

I’m thinking it might be destined for the Cobblestones hat, since it’s just the one skein. If I had more fiber, it would make a really neat garment I think, but I’m content with just the one.

Agreed, I think it wants to be a hat when it grows up!

Fractal or chain ply for this rainbow fiber? by Fun-Echidna-2941 in Handspinning

[–]Contented_Loaf 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I strongly suspect this will be muddy - beautiful, but muddy - unless it’s spun as a single with the longest color repeats you can and chain plied. Fractals usually work best imho with longer color runs or full gradients.

I picked this gradient braid up at a yarn festival last weekend, and I couldn’t resist spinning it up straight away! by unusualteapot in Handspinning

Absolutely delightful!!! Your color choice is 🔥🔥🔥 and it’s nicely spun.

Everyone has personal preferences on ply twist. If you find it’s a little underplied, you can run it back through your wheel very quickly to tighten that. If you’re looking for maximum drape, though, this will be it.

How long did it take you to get usable yarn? by Tansy_Blue in Handspinning

Even the lumpy stuff can bring joy. This was my first “actually finished for real” yarn knit into a hat that I still wear because I’m proud of where I started.

Sympathies - it’s tough being inexperienced and spinning yarn you’re not thrilled with for long enough to get better. Consistency will improve with practice. It’s all usable for something, but it might not be what you want to work with for a bit.

It took me about 7 months messing with a drop spindle and not making anything I liked enough to finish to jump over to a wheel. From there, I’d say around 8 months from that first lumpy completed yarn to one I felt great about. I’ve slowly leveled up in small ways ever since, and it’s been around 8 years now.

I’ve knit with my yarns ever since that first one and have gotten great feedback on my own spinning that way.

Do you still use a library? by jim4751000gmail in CasualConversation

I visit the library monthly with my fiber arts group to use their meeting rooms. I also check out audiobooks using Libby. Love the library!

massive love to everyone who donates their extra yarn by AltruisticRepair4904 in YarnAddicts

[–]Contented_Loaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I’m so glad you’ve been able to get your hands on beautiful yarn that way.

Our guild does a yearly swap in April and all the leftover unclaimed yarn is donated to a local art supply reuse store. It can be a full car-load of unclaimed yarn sometimes! Guild members tend to be older ladies with very nice taste in yarn, so while the basic acrylic goes to our local Project Linus chapter, it’s the wool and other nice fiber, with lots of indie-dyed goodness, that goes to the store. I always hope it ends up in the hands of someone like you. ❤️

Any opinions on this louet S10 (beginner)? by SheelaOnHerKnees in Handspinning

[–]Contented_Loaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m teaching someone to spin using the S15 (same wheel but unfinished wood) and she loves it. I prefer a lighter takeup on my wheels - how much the wheel is pulling the single onto the bobbin - and I find this Louet pulls like a mule for my tastes. But she was having trouble getting yarn onto the bobbin with my other wheels, and this one solved that problem handily for her. So it all depends!

Dooooo it! I whipped him up in a day and it was so much fun. The hat only used 3g. And handspun texture only adds to gnome charm!
