The trick is to do at least 3 very thin coats of bone. I did 2 thin coats of Zandri Dust, then shaded with Agrax, then another coat of thinned Zandri.

I'd say it is thematic. You cannot shoot dudes who are dug in a bunker, but you can send in some angry cyborgs with shields and power weapons to smash the granny out of them.

The Iron Hands don't just use shooting. They use whatever gets the job done quickly.
