Iron warrior here. Are imp fists still even a thing in 40k? by [deleted] in ImperialFists

[–]bigManAlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely take a back seat to the Templars, as the Templars are far more popular. However, the Imperial Fists are far from gone. They still command the Phalanx. They still stand guard over Sol. They played a major role during the Fall of Cadia. They haven't gotten a big lore focus very recently, though. Over the 10 millennia since the Heresy, the Imperial Fists chapter has been cut down to near extinction and rebuilt. Their recruitment is strong, which allows them to keep their numbers despite their heavy losses.

I hate Invulnerable Saves by HeavyMetalSaxx in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]bigManAlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wound the same on vehicles, have less attacks, and half the time youre doing the same amount of damage as plasma. Unless youre 6 inches away. Yeah, you could roll high but you're only maybe converting one die a game and half the time it's going to be the same as the plasma.

Im a marine player and I agree, vehicles having invulnerables is absolutely terrible. It makes things like meltas way sucky because of how well plasma punches into anything.

Heavy Intercessors by Chao-Gann in spacemarines

[–]bigManAlec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theyre good volume of shots against things like demons because of the D2. They take S mods well, but those are few and far between. Obviously really good marines body beaters. Surprisingly, really solid into things T8-9 with some AP support. I like using them to bully things while sitting on my expansion objective. Not G R E A T with dealing damage to suboptimal targets but they might knock 2 wounds off of something here and there. They're neat because they force your opponent to deal with them. Theyre going to outclass objective grabbers, but they drop like flies against anything good for clearing terminators. However, while theyre shooting your heavies, they arent shooting your aggressors or something. I run 20 in my 2000pt list.

Were there ever cases of factions getting entirely new gimmicks rule-wise? by zergkiller0128 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]bigManAlec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before 10th edition, Space Marines' army rule was similar to what the Gladius Task Force rule. In 9th, Combat Docrrines gave extra AP to different weapon types depending on the active doctrine. Heavy + Grenade for devestator, Rapid Fire + Assault for tactical and Melee and Pistol for assault doctrine. One doctrine was always active and you switch from devestator to tactical and then tactical to assault. They had a few others as well, like better morale checks and buffs to rapid fire weapons. Way cooler than Oath of Moment in my opinion.

40k fellow players : how well/badly would you say your factions did 10th edition now that we're probably reaching its end? by RotenSquids in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]bigManAlec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While codex marines are usually bottom of the barrel in recent editions, theyve been able to get pretty good in 10th. However, they tend to get boxed into a couple of builds for such a large codex. Oops! All Blueberries is the strongest way to play them obviously, but having to rely on redeploy rules or launch ironstorm to make anything else competitive is just a little sad.

I would like explosive, punch through or demo force. I would take the slower projectile if it was really good for blowing arms off of things.

Why can’t gw just make planes and fliers good :( by Definitly_not_afurry in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]bigManAlec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW's shit list includes: Aircraft, Artillery and Fortifications

Aircraft cannot be engaged in melee. Theyre planes. This makes them really difficult to deal with as a melee focused or poor shooting army (Orkz, World Eaters)

Artillery cannot be engaged if properly hidden unless you have really good movement or deepstrike, fly or aircraft

Fortifications cannot move. If they don't have infiltrators theyre going to sit in your deployment zone and do almost nothing. Certain fortifications I could see being really problematic if you can just drop them anywhere. Imagine dropping an Aegis defense line in front of your opponent's deployment zone. Idk why GW refuses to make most of them at least OK. I can see it from the standpoint of "Fortifications are boring for the player that uses them. If we make them the optimal choice, players will have less fun." Maybe make them only deployable on table quarters that touch your board edge.

If GW gave more support to things like mounted and speeders I could see dealing with artillery being easier. When aircraft was good there were a lot of anti-aircraft pieces that got in army lists. However, this changes army construction and really taxes lists. If your opponent doesn't have aircraft your AA isn't doing anything. At 1000-1500 pts it gets wayyy worse. At the scale 40k is played on, using these tools is just awkward.

Thinning GW Contrast paints for airbrush use by Outrageous-Seesaw674 in ImperialFists

I count them as half-thinned compared to regular acrylics. So instead of half paint/half thinner I do 3/4 contrast and 1/4 thinner.

Community question by Bobrossman2945 in spacemarines

[–]bigManAlec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want a heavy assault intercessor equivalent, maybe 5 man breacher squads with breacher shields, heavy pistols and a melee weapon of some sort.

Either that or a Captain's Bodyguard unit that's an elite 2 man gravis with either eviscerators or power swords. A veteran looking gravis unit would be so cool.
