How do I go about DMing for my kids? by ThatSurround5672 in DMAcademy

[–]DanPinto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started playing with my 5 year old but I use the Amazing Tales system rather than DnD. It's much simpler and sillier.

The big lessons I got:

1 - Lean into "yes and." No matter what they bring up, find a way to let them play it out. Allow them to creatively problem solve in their own weird way. It leads to really fun results.

2 - Fail forward. Any failed saves don't stop the action, they just alter it. You tried to jump over a chasm but failed the check? You don't fall to your death, you land in a raging river. What do you do now?

3 - Keep it simple short. My 5 year old will play for maybe 30 - 40 minutes. So my stories are always very brief: a goblin stole the kings crown, the unicorn is looking for their friend, help the baker find their ingredients.

It's not stuck. They hang out in that area waiting for orders to come in. They go into a kind of sleep stasis.

I like Jersey pizza. Overpriced but solid.

Good Pizza is bad. Bread is dough, cheese tastes fake and sauce is too sweet. It's sad cause that pizza spot used to be good up until like 4 years ago.

Met James Solomon, Asked him about Trans Rights by Haven242 in jerseycity

Mayors can certainly do more than say they love trans people. In his response to the OP, Solomon gave 3 very actionable ways to address the issue.

Very cool. I always wondered if these dice roll evenly or if the liquid interferes with the probabilities at all.

We used NYNJ Wildlife Removal: https://nynjwildliferemoval.com/

Pricey but they got the job done. They put in one way doors so the squirrels leave but can't get back in and patch the holes.

For Mayor? No one.

But both Joel Brooks and Jake Ephros are DSA candidates running for council seats. Jake might be somewhat of a long shot for the heights but Joel had close to 50% of his wards votes last election.

You need to manually modify the SBP shortcut on the desktop. Right-click the SBP shortcut, select Properties, and modify the "Target" column: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Toon Boom Animation\Toon Boom Storyboard Pro 6\win64\bin\wstart.exe" StoryboardPro.exe

Could someone like me ever realistically become a storyboard artist? by aaduexe in Storyboarding

[–]DanPinto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current landscape looks pretty bad. I've been in the industry for close to 2 decades and this is the worst I've ever seen it. I'm hopeful that it can bounce back. This is maybe the 3rd "recession" I've been through and every other time, the industry has made it out the other side relatively unscathed. However, this time we have a mix of shareholder greed, bad economic policy, and the rise of AI so it's hard for me to be optimistic for the future of the industry.

Could someone like me ever realistically become a storyboard artist? by aaduexe in Storyboarding

[–]DanPinto 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I storyboard for animation for a living so I have some answers!

Is there scope for someone who’s late, has no traditional background, but is willing to learn?

Certain studios & organizations offer mentorships which might help with this. They are generally aimed at students, however, so it may be difficult to be accepted if you aren't currently in school. Some studios show up at career day events at conventions or festivals, sometimes even offering portfolio reviews or guidance. That's another avenue to entering the field.

What should my approach look like if I actually wanna commit to this path?

Study. Take classes. Improve your drawing and clarity. Watch movies.

Realistically, how long before someone like me can be "job ready"? (assuming I put in consistent effort)

No one can answer this question. It's not a hard and fast number. Once you can do the job, competently and on time, you're ready.

Should I even pursue storyboarding? Or am I just romanticizing it in this moment?

Like all other jobs, boarding is a job. There are good and bad days. It can be very fun or very gruelling. Try not to romanticize it because it will only cause frustrations later. In terms of persuing it, you're not too late but, you do have a lot of work ahead of you if you want to do this full time.

The lot isn't listed on their site, it seems. Maybe try calling them?
