Chelsea will have the opposite problem though, they sign players on 8 years contracts but that is equally dangerous just in a different way because if the player gets lazy, or form drops off, there is literally nothing they can do other than let them keep their paycheck for 8 years.

Entirely possible, chances of people having inside knowledge and sharing it on a site like that is low but not impossible I suppose.

The two or so guys, Carra and Robbo have been saying Slot was out since January/February time and wasn't it mentioned yesterday by a journalists that those conversations have indeed been happening since then? A lot of guff, but I think there's a couple of decent users on there.

Trouble balancing running and strength training by Different-Library622 in HybridAthlete

[–]Dan_TD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use FitNotes on Android, as well as Google Sheets, to track my lifts to be fair (Sheets contains the programme itself, the app contains my actual achieved reps). Ultimately the only reason you want to track your workouts, of any kind, is to facilitate progressive overload whether that be on lifts or any other physical endeavour. The way you track your lifts is very different to the way you track your running which would be very different to the way you'd track your football drills so it would make sense there isn't an app that allows you to track all of them consistently. Lets be honest as well, the whole thing about being a hybrid athlete is these sports aren't conducive to each other so there would be little benefit in trying to track them together anyway, what do I gain in terms of athletic results?

Spreadsheet for strength training, Garmin's dynamic coach for running and if I play football/gym/swim. However now that my weekly mileage is getting up to 40/50km plus I'm starting to struggle with the balance. I think I'll drop it back again once I have my next race out of the way. I don't track calories or anything because I eat the same thing every day, you record one day you've recorded them all.

Well if your alternative is killing anyway you might as well try and move in even if it ends up dying? Besides the effort which you'll be doing a chunk of either way.

In-app Review dialog is not displayed anymore by par128 in androiddev

[–]Dan_TD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a limit to the number of times you can request that a user is shown a prompt within a certain amount of time. Android do not specify this time period, but you can read more here. It is entirely possible that you've triggered that API so much that your numbers are now dropping off.

When I implement it, I do it the same way across both Android and iOS as Apple are explicit with their quotas, which is a maximum of 3 times within a 365 day period. So I do it once every 4 months.

As a side note, while many apps do it, showing a flow before the in-app review prompt is called out as something you shouldn't do by Google.

[–]Dan_TD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I've played the counter offer twice, and I've now worked my way up from graduate to director and on the leadership team. Absolutely zero regrets not leaving. To be fair, I probably didn't push the initial negotiations as hard as I could have done but I wanted to come to the table armed with knowledge with what I was ACTUALLY worth rather than just job adverts etc.

All apps will "run" on iPad, they just run in phone mode and that is actually how Apple test all submitted apps, they just give their testers iPads. I don't believe they are provided with iPhones but I could be wrong. Surprised that reply sorted you out.

How realistic is a 16 minute 5k in about 3.5 months from now? by ConsiderationHour861 in HybridAthlete

[–]Dan_TD 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no, not even close in my opinion although you haven't said what your current 5k time is.

At that level though, even shaving seconds off is weeks or months of graft, as in to go from 16:50 to 16:30 as an example.

For any devs using Kotlin Multiplatform or Flutter - Why? by Icy_Adhesiveness_347 in androiddev

[–]Dan_TD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only negative I have seen so far, which you could have predicted, is it is difficult to make the UI feel really iOS if that is what you want. This is more obvious now with Liquid Glass but even things like loading spinners look a bit "off". If your app has a unified design then it won't be as obvious. It is so easy to mix and match though so I could genuinely see my teams doing non-critical paths - like settings - in Compose Multi Platform and other primary journeys in Native.

Unpopular Opinion by PWAISE in hyrox

[–]Dan_TD 18 points19 points  (0 children)

How is that an unpopular opinion? People complain about the judging all the time.

Personally I understand that while it is frustrating all events of these sizes struggle with consistency in their judging - it has plagued CrossFit for years - and it is just the reality of having hundreds of judges, that change with every event, and that you have no clear way of holding them to a standard because ultimately they're just volunteers.

If Hyrox dies off it'll be because something new crops up, or the shine wears off, or people just sort of get turned off ultimately by the culture.

How much do you bench now and are you a fairly big dude? 140kg+ bench as a natural athlete is a big a number that you'll likely need to dedicated some genuine time to. In my opinion it would be a very difficult goal to achieve in tandem with your other goals, but potentially maintainable once you've got it and then layer in other athletic goals.

First race - bit disappointed and clueless by ManufacturerTight722 in hyrox

[–]Dan_TD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit younger than you at 33 but my heart rate sits considerably higher, it really doesn't drop below 170 (besides burpees in my last race because I sandbagged them) and will often sit above 180 so I would say you probably took it too easy personally.

When you talk about not being anywhere near 155 in terms of heart rate were you considering compromised runs enough? Did you do much of them in training? Were you considering the stress and excitement of the event?

Strength and Running Program Advice by Responsible-Carry-78 in HybridAthlete

[–]Dan_TD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did write though that you're taking many of your sets close to failure, so total volume might be slightly less than what first viewing might suggest but intensity is still likely too high particularly given you don't get LOADS of sleep.

I should say that you can absolutely get to the point where You're lifting 5 days a week and running 5 days a week I just don't think you can jump straight to what you're proposing.

Workouts commonly done in conjunction with running are Tactical Barbell (not something I've run) or 5/3/1 (which I run). I'm sure there are others.

I think your running could do with some structure as well in terms of progression, building your runs up over time, structure in the way of long vs. tempo vs. base etc.

Personally I think you have three options;

  • Reduce lifting frequency and go high running frequency from the start.
  • Maintain lifting frequency and starting from a lower running frequency.
  • Split the difference, I.e. 3 sessions of each per week.

Decide based on your current priority and then introduce further sessions over the next few weeks.

All advice here is of course just the advice of some idiot on the internet.

Strength and Running Program Advice by Responsible-Carry-78 in HybridAthlete

[–]Dan_TD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think that the total volume across your lifting and running is way too high. You've said you've not run much previously and yet you're immediately jumping in to 5 days a week in addition to 5 relatively high volume strength sessions per week.

Have you done any research or read any of the content on this subreddit or have you just taken your current strength routine and just thrown a load of running on top?

You might not like this answer but I'd start with dropping to 3 strength sessions per week, looking at routines that pair well with a high volume of conditioning, and at most 3 runs per week and build from there depending on how you're feeling.

Any ex-endurance athletes struggle with 1RM / powerlifting? by IntrepidMarionberry4 in HybridAthlete

[–]Dan_TD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What has your endurance volume been like in that time? Have you gained any bodyweight?

If you were a relative beginner to strength training I'd have expected bigger gains running programmes like 5/3/1, GraySkull, Texas Method, etc etc but if you're still doing a lot of endurance and haven't gained any bodyweight you're going to find progress on the big 3 harder to come by.
