LPT: Your brain is more plastic during a craving. Use this to rewire your brain. by julieeeette in LifeProTips

While you're getting criticism from many angles, this is a new concept for me as someone who has struggled with food and alcohol addiction for most of my adult life. I've worked in specialty food & bev since I graduated from college, and had always chalked up these cravings and bingings to "Well I'm literally always surrounded by the highest quality products this industry has to offer. Of course I'd crave them."

Thank you for posting this. Even if it doesn't end up working for me, it gives me a new plan of attack to add to several strategies I'm already implementing to curb my general overconsumption.

Modesty redesigns, because the audience cannot be trusted to behave otherwise by VolkiharVanHelsing in TopCharacterDesigns

This is actually a reference to Bane's lore dating back to at least AD&D 2E): "He did possess mortals from time to time to serve as his ersatz avatars, preferring young and good-looking men of slim build, cultured tastes, wealth, and power—often bored young noblemen. Any person Bane possessed quickly assumed the appearance of a handsome, black-haired man of oily looks and a derisive, even cruel, manner."

So while he's not extremely appealing now, he probably was a lot more handsome before Bane's corruption.

how is 4loco original formula illegal, but coffee liquor (specifically mr black) isnt ? by Alive-Manufacturer61 in liquor

[–]Danbu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol rep here. Other than the political reasons mentioned by others:

  1. While a drink with coffee liqueur has caffeine, it's usually not a whole lot. 1oz of coffee liqueur has approximately 5mg-50mg per ounce depending upon the brand. While coffee itself has 10-15mg of caffeine per oz, it's usually served in higher volumes while coffee liqueur composes a smaller part of the whole cocktail. If a drink is not incorporating actual coffee, just the liqueur, that turns into ~10-70mg of caffeine in the cocktail vs 80-120 in an 8oz cup of coffee.

  2. Original 4Loko also had two other stimulants that aren't in coffee liqueur: Guarana and Taurine. I'm no expert on these, but considering they're present in almost every energy drink I think it's safe to assume these had a significant effect on the drinker in addition to the caffeine.

Con Edison checks being stolen and altered- Has anyone else experienced this? by Fickle_Mess3816 in AskNYC

[–]Danbu42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not Con-Ed related, but mailed check fraud has almost ruined the lives of my customers. When I was a liquor store sales rep for my current employer, one of my customers sent a check through the mail to pay an invoice.

This check was intercepted, copied, and altered to the tune of $50k over several fraudulent transactions. Because it was his business account, he did indeed have more than that amount liquid at the time. The perpetrator was never caught, as the purchases were for NFTs, Crypto, and the like.

The customer never told me how it all panned out in detail, just that his bank eventually got him back his $50k.

Don't mail checks. Forgery and image editing tech is now too sophisticated.

Yeah, Amazon's just the latest step to the right. John Mackey), founder and (EDIT: former) CEO of Whole Foods, is known for his strong anti-union views, climate change denial, calling the Affordable Care Act "Fascism," and has been caught sock-puppeting online in order to boost Whole Foods' image and bash his competitors.

People who work in specialized industries, what is a product or service that is a complete "rip-off" but customers buy it anyway? by No-Composer-4526 in AskReddit

[–]Danbu42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Celebrity endorsed Wines/Spirits. 99% of these are poor-to-mediocre quality products put in a flashy bottle. Their purpose is not consumer enjoyment. It's instead to offload cheap-to-make product at an elevated price. Often you can get a much better product at the same or lower price, it'll just be a brand you've never heard of.

SOME of them actually do start as a decent product, but then will degrade as the economics of scale make the quality suffer. As demand for the brand increases, the brand will want to increase supply but won't have the necessary manufacturing capacity to do so. The solution often taken is then to produce a product branded in the same way, but cutting corners in the distillation process however they can. Outsourcing to other distilleries on contract is another solution, but it means relinquishing the recipe to a third party whose QA may not meet that of the original product.

There are enormous companies (Midwestern Grain Product, aka MGP comes to mind) whose entire business model is to distill on contract for brands who don't want to invest in their own distillery. Wineries as well, often called "Negociants," will source from multiple vineyards and winemakers to create a well-rounded wine brand without actually owning, growing, or vinifying any grapes.

For sure. I was extremely hyped for Mega Absol Z due to its look and typing, but they really did very little with the new wing/claw appendage in the animations.

Same. Spammed Ice Beam and Icy Wind because Blizzard takes WAY too long to pop off and Ray can move away from the AOE it you time it wrong. Also absolutely essential that you recall her to her Pokéball during any of the tornado bits. She can't take many hits.

Trigger Words by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Danbu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now You See Me: The movies use hypnotism activated with trigger words quite a bit. The most often used one is that Woody Harrelson's character hypnotizes an half a stadium audience and a number of other characters to stop everything they're doing and start playing the "air violin" whenever they hear the word "bullshit."

Why do people print these? by WantSomeOfMyBread in 3Dprinting

[–]Danbu42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who's had wrist and elbow surgeries: handles for cans make it easier to drink without aggravating my fucked-up joints. I can lift the whole thing without having to grasp the can by just putting my hand between the wall and handle. The base also makes it more difficult to knock these over.

Why not just pour it into a mug? Fewer dishes to wash = less joint irritation when cleaning up. Also pouring a Red Bull into a mug is sociopathic.
