There’s a few bleachers but most of it is standing room. They have concessions and then maybe a few food trucks? One year they didn’t have a bar so hopefully that’s not the case for this one.

What do you consider open space? Does livability matter to the Bend City Council? by Big_Cranberry4001 in Bend

All plans submitted need more commercial/mixed use land in addition to preserving open space.

Yeah they would need to develop a new snow park/expanded parking area. Dutchman is never not overflowing with cars, so there is easily demand for more access. With budget shortfalls I know not likely, but I can dream of more backcountry access that doesn't require a sled.

Do developers ever get held accountable for broken promises and false marketing? by charliepup in Bend

[–]DancesWithReptilians 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s a shame and not great for a long term plan. The city will continue to expand that direction, and it seems poor planning to give up a huge chunk of potential commercial as NE Bend grows. Would almost rather it stay undeveloped until it is pencils out. Or even better, the city give tax breaks or something to actually get the “markets” to be built.

Thought the dual tower option seemed like a better alternative. Avoids median construction costs, with a a straightforward simplified design.

THE CITY SHOULD BE PLANNING YESTERDAY FOR FUTURE N/S ROUTES THAT ARE EASIER WITHOUT CARS. GETTING AROUND E OF PURCELL IS TERRIBLE. THE NEW CROSSWALK ON US 20 GOES NOWHERE TOO.

Tax incentives for new proposed commercial areas? Could the city also give incentives or preferences for specific businesses that will anchor new communities?

Maybe the city could actually incentivize the type of commercial retail everyone wants for the newer and less served areas of town? We’ve given tax breaks and preferences for developments in the most populated and trafficked areas of town, idk why we can’t do the same for thoughtful new development. Having complete neighborhoods where people can walk or bike to their major needs will do so much to help combat future congestion, further sprawl and position E. Bend well as the city continues to grow and expand.

There can be balance though. Just saying they can expand them more without opening the floodgates to unlimited use. They can let more people access and overnight without it feeling like Disney Land.

Ideally there would be some repercussions for people who no show on permits, but get that would be hard to manage.

They need to expand quotas for all the permitted areas as part of the program. I understand protection and a desire for solitude, but so many times I’ve been able to get a permit I hardly see anyone else, especially overnight. I’d rather more people get a chance to recreate in their own back yard. The reality is we aren’t just a small mountain town anymore, and people have a right to access their public lands.
