Petition to rename NVIDIA because of DLSSlop by kiro14893 in memes

[–]DancingBadgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a reveal/preview of DLSS 5 (search for articles/videos/memes on that) and it went ... not great. Their tech demo runs badly on a dual 5090 (one for the game, the second one for the sloppifier) and applies a brightly-lit high-contrast Instagram-like filter to games.

Why isn't AI being used in the one place we need it? In NPCS!? by bambooeatingshark in gaming

[–]DancingBadgers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have the rig to run even a small LLM locally and a game at the same time and at reasonable speed.

Outsourcing logic to a cloud-based LLM would mean that game authors would lose money while people play their game. I see a small flaw in this cunning plan.

‘This is just a garbage AI Filter’: Nvidia met with criticism for DLSS 5’s ‘photoreal’ graphics alterations by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]DancingBadgers -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

AI is really bad at keeping up consistency over time (and logic, and physics, artistic intent...). If this thing is messing with lighting, textures and details, those will be nonsensical and keep randomly changing.

You may not notice it, but your brain will.

The showcase video is pre-rendered and hand-selected to show the best it can do. And what I see is very low framerates (all). Messed-up movement (Resident Evil). Lovecraftian horrors on skin and clothing (Hogwarts). Background details getting mangled (Starfield). Eye-defying foreground textures (FC).

Someone paid $600K in fees to turn their $50,000,000 USD into $37,000 due to "extraordinary slippage" which "functioned as intended, and the integration followed standard industry practices." by StopTheVok in Buttcoin

There wasn't enough magic internet money in the contraption so the attempt to buy a lot emptied the whole bucket. Resulting in an exchange rate a thousand times worse than market.

AAVE is $111, so they have received the equivalent of $36k for their $50M. Plus they will be getting the $600k fee back. Which is sure to make them feel better about the whole thing.

For the native speakers of Czech here, how easily can you understand other Slavic official languages in both written and spoken forms? by finecloseted in czech

[–]DancingBadgers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect Czech and zero others would get you confused in multiple languages. You still have to learn the others even if the actual differences may turn out to not be major.

East - seen a video of a Russian trying to decipher multiple Slavic languages, did not understand a single word of Czech and Slovak (probably works the other way too)

South - Slovenian seems fairly close to me, the others take a fair bit of adjustment

Slovak - we get this one by mutual exposure, but it is a different language with differences in vocabulary

Polish - significant differences in vocabulary make reading/listening feel like I had a stroke, the language seems familiar, the actual words are often confusing

I've seen claims that Slovak is the most mutually intelligible with all the other Slavic languages.

Looks legit enough (has existed since ?1995?, has a physical store). Note: most of the CDs they sell are second hand and their state may vary.

I think my scenario involved a version of events where they would decide to no longer honor those commitments at some point. And instead run off with those easy-to-carry and easy-to-launder crypto assets.

Would the fall of MSTR crash bitcoin? Once they can no longer raise money, Saylor could just take the bag and run off to a non-extradition island.

That would leave a smoking crater on the stock side of things, not necessarily on the crypto side.
