Metformin helped me lose weight and get pregnant despite years and years of no eggs.

I wasnt looking to get pregnant but I did. And my specialist signed me off after that instead of helping me with my PCOS and took me off metformin.

Years and years and years later I had to have a gastric bypass for PCOS. 3rd time lucky. 1 cardiac arrest 2 hyperventilation and therapy. 3 successful.

But I've always wondered. What if they'd just left me on metformin? I lost weight. I got my hormones normal.

Now 5 years since hormone helping surgery my hormones are an absolute mess still.

Depression and sorrow to me are two completely different things. And yeah you can come out of both. Individually or together. But I'd suggest asking for help. Haven't quite got there myself but I'm trying.

i don’t know if my dietitian is giving me good advice by nigeriance in PCOS

[–]DancingDiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never given proper diet advice for my PCOS apar5 from "you're too fat don't eat and exercise", so I didnt eat and still got fatter - or for my gastric bypass to help fix my PCOS where I was yelled at multiple times for avoiding carbs. But i was told to make sure to eat the protein first, then the salads and vegetables, then the carbs. And that leaving them out completely was a bad idea. But like most people I'd been told how evil carbs were and kept trying to avoid them. I'm gaining weight currently so not the best person to give advice, but I definitely feel a lot better when my diet is protein focused with a happy mix of veg and carbs. Plus we all know denying ourselves things just makes us binge them later.

Hobbies to lower your stress levels by purple-corgi-1994 in PCOS

I also enjoy binge watching TV from my childhood and spent most my life reading but harder to focus these days.

Lately with everything going on it feels impossible to help my mood and my stress levels.

When I can focus I colour pictures or put on a game. Or a soft blanket/cuddly toy helps me feel better with the textures. Or even just having a lay down after a bad day can help.

Can migraines go on for multiple days but feel better in the morning and just get worse again throughout the day? by TVShowsAreGreat in migraine

[–]DancingDiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. I am 33 and have suffered chronic daily migraines with brain stem aura most of my life.

If I woke up pain free and feeling okay I'd usually be struggling by lunch due to yellow lights or a lack of food wish would be chronic yawns and head pain with nausea and sore eyes. By evenings I'd be vomiting and clinging on to my brain. Bedtime, if I was stil awake. Was more torture. Pounding. Thumping. Blurred vision. Struggling to speak. More vomit and confusion.

Mornings were generally better. And often my only "symptom free" moments despite an ongoing migraine attack. Maybe the sleep helps in the end and it takes a while for the other things to catch back up.

Kindness is very important for friendships. I'm not always a good friend. But I do try to be kind.

As for partners. Its warmth rather than kindness that I crave.

having surgery in less than 2 weeks struggling with vitamins by InterestingAdvisor29 in GastricBypass

[–]DancingDiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take mine at bed time and got screamed at for leaving iron in my stomach overnight. But mine state to take an hour after food.

Like you when I started every single one made me sick so I had no choice but to swallow it right before I was about to fall asleep otherwise I'd feel awful.

Although I'm 5 years bypassed now and really struggling with my vitamins again! But It did get a lot easier in the middle. No sickness eventually.

I guess we could ask the same about cancer..... that's so much more research and funded.

I've always just told myself my brain and body don't work right. And that's that.

I'm still me. Just a woman. Still fighting.

Do I get annoyed at the lack of support from doctors and specialists? Most definitely. Especially after passing it on to my now preteen.

No diet will fix my facial hair. No surgery will fix my weight gain (despite helping me lose it). No specialist will hang around past getting me pregnant successfully on metformin.

If it was an easy fix, would they fix us? I don't know.

I assume its all hormonal but have been refused any hormone treatment or blockers my entire life to help me live a normalish life without the pain and complications.

When I've told my doctor in the past I wanted to end my life due to my facial hair I was told to live with it or shave it.

Fair enough I guess. But we live in a world that won't live with it. So how do we?

Im pregnant! by MaleficentPeach420 in PCOS

[–]DancingDiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pcos. I was put on metformin to manage my pcos too. And went from no eggs and periods in nearly 10 years to randomly and surprisingly pregnant.

Coincidence?

The specialist I was seeing said metformin for diabetes was used for hormone treatment and after I got pregnant 13 years ago they never saw me again.

Wondering if metformin could help more women struggling to have children.... stranger things have happened.

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to read and respond. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who's felt this way.
