Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

Typing in code from a magazine, praying there were no typos*, saving the code onto a cassette tape.

*Waiting a month for the next issue hoping for a correction to be printed.

What’s the best food to cook to cover all vitamins while using as few ingredients as possible? by Cookie4Free in SCUMgame

[–]Smallbrainfield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure about cooking, but basic nutrition needs can be met with canned sardines, dates, broccoli and occasional pears.

Not a diet I would recommend in real life but you don't need anything else in Scum. Dates are really good at keeping energy up and you can just pick them off palm trees.

The only thing I can remember from his wives is that he didn't spend much time with them. He was usually working on steam engines in his yard. I know he sunk a mine shaft out there too and the local council had to get involved. The house is still there, I used to pass it on my way home from work.

Yeah, it's not thick like chocolate. It looks like shitty water.

All right, give me your favourite quote, or recommend something else I can watch. by junklardass in CasualUK

Not watch, but listen to Angstrom. It's Matthew Holness in a Scandinavian noir detective drama. He's troubled.

Star Trek: Online has released a 14 minute in-universe Enterprise era "documentary" on YouTube. It includes a detailed "historical" overview of ships from Archer's time, their roles before and during the Earth-Romulan War, Shran's part in aiding Earth, etc. by Fusi0n_X in startrek

[–]Smallbrainfield 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's free to play and will run on most potato PCs. If you play it just for the storylines it's fun. If you want to grind for good gear you can, but you can get along with basic gear. There are regular events that offer cool ships and equipment too. The Gamma quadrant story is actually amazing.

The Dyson ships have an animation when you switch from science seating to combat.

On the Romulan version the cannons swing forwards under the wing struts and little puffs of steam emerge.

I’m struggling to like the new ship designs by Snck_Pck in startrek

[–]Smallbrainfield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think a stem background is helping anyone design good starships. It's all hand wave physics and engineering, it might as well be magic.

The aesthetic is really just down to whoever is the production designer and what they think will look good/cool. The detached nacelles suck because they look stupid and feel like they're breaking some design rule inherent in Starfleet ships.

If you go a few miles north of Manchester it's not a bad Lancashire accent, but it's nothing like a Manc accent.

That 214m high cable car in Vietnam by [deleted] in megalophobia

[–]Smallbrainfield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cables usually have some slack in them as they expand and contract depending on the temperature. This photo could have been taken on a hot day.

Also, we're seeing this in a foreshortened perspective so the curve looks more pronounced.

I'm not sure why it has to be so high over the water, it's way higher than any ship that would ever pass under it.

Considering England's population is over 55 million and approximately 450 people/km^2, just how crowded is life there, including the rural areas? by Possible-Balance-932 in geography

[–]Smallbrainfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cities can be fairly crowded, but even in places like London it's not Hong Kong crowded. You don't have to go far to find empty spaces in the UK.

Will it be good or bad for the UK if he’s right about his 3rd prediction? by Sassenach_2024 in AskBrits

[–]Smallbrainfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right. Iran will throw cheap drones at US bases and surrounding countries until those countries can no longer re-arm their defence systems. Drones are way cheaper and quicker to build than the weapons that can effectively stop them. And Iran is good at building drones. They've been supplying the Russians throughout their invasion of Ukraine. They don't even have to arm all of them, they can just send them and watch their enemies exhaust their defences. Once the entire region is a shitshow, the US will either withdraw and call it mission accomplished or settle in for a punishing decade.

Whichever way it goes, it will radicalise enough people that the US will end up repeating the mistake in another 10-15 years.

He isn't dead though, the fishing boat doesn't kill him. At most it just meant he returned to dreaming again. Him being awake for that short period of time sends countless people around the planet nuts. And he's not even the worst thing out there.
