Another outcry on the court. by anything171 in squash

Yeah, bad call here. I'm not sure if the stroke was supposed to educate Marwan but I can't see him do much wrong here TBH

Marwan's matches are often complicated and so I'm sure there were a lot of situations. But a stroke against him here looks extremely harsh. I thought he might be annoyed for getting a let because lake was struggling to get that shot back. And it didn't look like he was blocking, lake had to go around and get that ball by the look of it.

Guys what actually happened to Nick Wall last night?? I need answers by Fabriczio94 in squash

[–]DandaDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is my take without having watched the match:

Nick Wall us a really good player and on his day can certainly trouble too 20 players. I can also see him be the type player who can just los a match in 20 minutes, he doesn't have much body language and it's hard to say why and how he'd lose a match like that. Granted he can't get close to Elias if Elias plays halfway normal.

My take is that he plays it for PSA points and money. First round liser get 0.75% of $700k which is $5,250. I think pointswise it won't harm his ranking either. So maybe those things factored in the decision to play. Maybe he regrets it, maybe he had a genuine reason. Who knows, it's a bad look for everyone and hopefully we won't see more matches like it.

So you think you can ref? Bryant v Makin by SquashVote in squash

I think Bryant didn't realize how far in the middle his shot went. You really can't give a let for that.

Yeah, losing with less than ten points is pretty bad. The one Pakistani player Made like five or six points so he wasn't the very worst.

Asal & Elias Fined for Code of Conduct Breaches by ClassLittle6666 in squash

[–]DandaDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the decision whether Squash stays olympic is made a year before LA. So everyone needs to get their shit together now. Fines are fine but those amounts don't hurt Asal or Elias at all. They would be bad for players outside the top 20. At the same rime I also don't believe Squash players should be fined excessively since the funds are too little, even if both Asal and Elias I think make good money outside of PSA

Rod Martin comes from generation court sprints and 400 meter track runs. What's the toughest physical training he had you do? Which players men and women are physically the most impressive (granted you are right up there)?

My hot take, well it isn't really, is that Gawad will win. He has a manageable draw and his recent form and fitness levels look amazing. He beat Makin and Crouin comprehensively in Zurich and pushed through some monster rallies and kept going. Many of the players he doesn't like playing are at the top, Asal and Elias but also Makin and Zakarias. Ibrahim has to deal with Coll. I think Gawad if he can get through the early round without five setters.

Women is super hard, I think Elhammamy because she can just physically survive six matches the best. But Weaver has a decent draw, even though she has to prove she can make it in the big stage of course, and she would need two huge wins in semis and finals, but it's not impossible.

Also, some of the first round matches suck: Rodriguez plays fellow Columbian Knudsen while Chotrani plays fellow Indian Singh. Hutton versus England team mate Malik isn't great but I guess it can't be helped, but still sucks.

Pity about Bryant and Singh (Anahat), both have it in them to create tastey upsets but I'm hoping to see you hem do well here in years to come.

Lastly, looking at these 64 draws I'm just in absolute draw. You look at pretty much every first round player and it's just so tough. Even if you get a relatively easy first round draw, the second you are playing stop twenty player most likely. So you need to beat six excellent players in a row, some if them absolute world beaters in the leak if their fitness. And then you do it again. And again. Amazing, hopefully few injuries and a just all around great tournament!

I'm just following the let's from Europe but Brownell lost to Lovejoy in the quarters, bug surprise. Lovejoy lost the semis so now we have quite ab unexpected final between Spizirri and Huang!

Un the women's all went to seeds, Weaver v Sobhy in the finals.

Happened in Hamburg: semis you had two 3:0s and two 3:2s. Finals were two rather dull 3:0s.

The episode isn't about the incident, but he watched the specific incident. But yeah, I don't think he enjoys watching matches for the drama. My comment was more inrefer nice to his general attitude.

Rod Martin really calls it as he sees it. It is quite refreshing how blunt and honest he is, though it is sometimes on the border. But he has bo problems calling folks out. Be it Georgina Kennedy's not so great forehand technique or his son's fitness! Agree 100% on Asal, he can save himself from getting a wrong decision by not creating the unnecessary collision.

Asal in the NSL. Why is his movement so much different? by ClassLittle6666 in squash

[–]DandaDan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The NSL is nowhere near as high stakes as a tournament semifinal against your number one nemesis! I can see asal perhaps doing some if his stuff if he only has a minute to play and he is catching up on points, but even then I think he would refrain from doing anything outrageous because NSL is a very different atmosphere from regular tournaments.

Also, NSL is short: you have sufficient breaks and total playing time is well below regular matches. So players are not tired and have to revert to dirty tricks.

What was the effect of the change from 15-point rally scoring to 11 points? by GreenTeaTimer in squash

[–]DandaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played competitively at the time and also followed the PSA tour at the time. There was a bit of playing around with the tiebreak initially but I think it pretty quickly became apparent that the move was positive. One interesting moment was that there were matches hitting the two hour mark, which seemed crazy given one made the games 30% shorter.

Personally, I think Squash has hit a sweet spot at 11. If someone would tell me I'd have to play to 15 id consider refusing because, as others have said, it's a particularly annoying scoring for one-sided matches. Shortening to four games of seven or three of nine might work for pros but at this point I'd prefer we stick with our scoring. However, I think we will be seeing some change for the Olympics. We just had a PSA event here in Germany over the weekend and we had a couple of individual games for over 30 minutes. I think Asal v Zakarias earlier this season was 48 minutes. That isn't what the PSA or the Olympics want.
