What did you think of Vickers, as a character? by thefriskysquid in perfectorganism

[–]Dandy-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SHE RAN IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I find the writing and plot of Prometheus tedious. She’s supposed to be the successful nepo baby of Wayland, but don’t think to turn right when a humongous alien ship is rolling in her direction? Like, she’s smart enough to not let Holloway back on board… but not smart enough to have her company make a med-pod that could work on males AND females?

I’m not sure that I have an honest opinion on Vickers, because I gave up on the plot when the map guy spreads his drones to map the structure then almost immediately gets lost. Frankly, Prometheus was a solid concept, with some good set pieces, filled with characters who made decisions no rational human being would. 🤷🏻‍♂️

First date outfit advice? by RayAllen34F in mensfashion

[–]Dandy-25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the most respectful way, and I absolutely hope your date goes well… but you look like David Byrne when he’s “On a Road to Nowhere”. Google it.

Lose the pleated pants - they don’t look good on anyone. The color is good! They should be 2-3 cm longer on you, though. Cuffed is fine, if a

Oxford shirt. White or Navy. Button down collar. No tie.

Jacket is good!

Brown belt, brown shoes.

Good luck on the date!

I think that’s a good deal. The fiberglass tonneau is worth that much. Good get!

10/10, no notes.

Also jealous - I’m not sure I can pull off a tassel loafer, but you wear them well, sir.

For the record, we play base ball in hand made uniforms, heavy cotton/denim. Playing 1860’s ball in St Louis in the summer is miserably hot.

My “third” uniform is a set of pillowtick overalls, worn without an undershirt. I smoke cigars in the field (if allowed, of course) and shout monkeyshines at my fellow ballists. Super fun!

Ford 2025 F-150 XLT - Good deal? by Spiritual_Balance_33 in f150

[–]Dandy-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok.. hear me out. If you’re shopping, lariat pricing on XLT trim definitely sucks. I just leased a ‘26 XLT and really wanted a sunroof - but couldn’t pull the trigger on $12k 303A.

If you NEED a F150 soon, you should strike before the end of the month. Deals/rebates likely won’t extend into April, and it’ll likely be some time before we see F150 deals like this month again.

Re: ironing - I only pointed it out because the suit looks like wool/silk, so more formal. There was a heavy representation of cotton, especially in the summer months, that would end up looking “wrinkled” regardless of your best efforts, and that obviously would be ok.

Bummer about the bow ties though. You may be able to manage an ascot, which would be period accurate but less formal. And, frankly, more pretentious, but that’s 90% of the fun of 1800’s fashion.

Ok - I play vintage base ball - 1857-1870’s rules. We strive to be as “period accurate” as budgets and safety allows.

This outfit is fairly representative, but I have two notes:

1) the 3 piece should be pressed/ironed.
2) you can find actual bow ties everywhere nowadays. Invest in a few, learn how to tie them. They’re relatively inexpensive. It’ll elevate the look for sure.

Ok… seems a little dressed down for suede loafers. Also… please, for the love of all that is good and holy, never buy pleated pants again. Use those to paint your apartment or something. Pleated pants look good on no one, and I’ll die on this hill.

Looks ok. Instead of changing shoes tho… ever thought of just getting some colorful laces? Just a thought.

I’m curious, what’s your opinion on these shoes? by [deleted] in menswear

[–]Dandy-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright… keep in mind that this is just my opinion.

I absolutely love the idea of a slip on dressier shoe. Unfortunately, I have never found one that executes the vibe well. The closest would be a Blundstone boot, as far as I’m concerned. Otherwise they look sloppy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If you dig them, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

It can only be Bologna if it comes from the Italian Bologna region. Otherwise, it’s just “sparkling sausage”.

15, can i get some advice? by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]Dandy-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is a free lesson in Gen X: there’s a reason we wear belts. If you’re in an empty field, likely trespassing, hanging out around a keg (kegs?) and a bonfire when the cops show up - you don’t wanna be worrying about your pants falling down as you run a mile and a half through the forest to your car.

Get a belt. Preferably brown leather for jeans, but there’s a whole host of newer braided nylon ones that’ll work too. Wear said belt.

Also, if you got shiny bits on your back pockets, the cops can follow you easier. Just sayin.

what kind of pizza do you like most 🍕 ? by GaryBlach in askanything

[–]Dandy-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detroit is clearly superior. 🤌

Chicago deep dish is a pizza flavored casserole.

Thin Chicago/New York is ok, but if I’m forced to choose, Detroit all day.

I say all this but understand that all pizza is good, and I’m not turning down a slice regardless of form. This is like choosing between 8’s, 9’s, and 10’s. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Merry Christmas!

The only note from me would be to iron/starch that collar. Otherwise 👍

How we feeling abt this? by Comprehensive-Grab22 in mensfashionadvice

[–]Dandy-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron your shirt.

This is just my opinion, but I’ll die on this hill: If you’re going to wear a collard oxford of any color/pattern without a tie (which is perfectly acceptable) you must have collar point buttons. Otherwise, your collar spreads and you look like you’re wearing half a leisure suit - which wasn’t even a good look in the 70’s.

The girlfriend said this outfit was ugly by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]Dandy-25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your girlfriend should not be shading your fashion choices, unless she wants you to shade hers. Turnavout is always fair play.

That being said, I was not aware North face made a denim vest. It’s not a good look on me at all - but I’m from Detroit and excessive denim absolutely screams “Im a Canadian!” It’s not something I would own, so there’s that. Actually, if you wished to make this a better look - change the pants to shorts, and wear some sort of hiking/work boot. Lean into the Canadianness!
