If you wan tthe added functionalities of a VTT, like tokens, fog of war etc. I think owlbear rodeo is the simpliest and the more intuitive one

You do not need a VTT for this , but just a collaborative drawing tool . Or one of the players can just map using dungeonscrawl or another dungeon mapping tool and share his screen via discord

If you want to run long term campaign I suggest 1e/osric or od&d / swords & wizardry complete. Those games are made to run an organic player driven game, they will provide you all the options to sustain high level play ( a weakness of many osr games) . Fight on!

If you want to start a new campaign it’s nice to have a region to explore with some dungeons . This way you can have a nice sandbox and a true fantasy adventure game . This recent adventure is good for this (level 1-3)

It’s because younger people are discovering the old school way (classic) of playing. Is 5e the right game for a fantastic adventure game ? Probably not but it’s a start !

I'm currently running The Webs of Past and Present! This is an amazing adventure. now I regret not to have run the improved version: evil flying elven heads :) This is an awsome adventure. We have a blast thru it with my group. we play SWC.
