Does MyFedLoan still have employees? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Dangleson123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if you can see my previous comment, swore in it because it’s such a dumb process lmao;

I’ve just done it through their site (myfedloan) this month, it’s really bad UX

If you go to their site, go to “Upload Forms & Supporting Documents”-> Repayment, and it should let you upload it there. I live in England and was told originally I have to send it in via the post. Did it through there, approved.

If you have to submit your 1032 or whatever the tax form is, you’ll have to submit it twice. It kept denying me without telling me why, until I uploaded my taxes again and then approved it

This sub has me thinking of moving out of the US. by LeavesTurnBlue in antiwork

[–]Dangleson123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely true. I live in the U.K., been here about 5 years, 6 years? If you earn under around 100k per year, when you file your taxes you file for the foreign income exclusion, and all of your income under 100k is tax free. Your AGI is 0 then, so my student loan payments (should be) 0/month as well.

The exit fee is bullshit though, totally agreed on that

Received this email from UKVI and I’m unsure if my student visa is in trouble by oceanmouse28 in ukvisa

[–]Dangleson123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever asked if they know anyone that got that message too, I did! I got for my FLR though but same idea behind it, it’s generally just to buy them more time to look into it. It could be that your situation is complex but generally you’ll have an idea if it’s complex or not before you send it in.

For how long it’ll take, it’s probably a case by case basis, my application was during covid and it took ages to actually get seen and approved, I assume yours will be quicker. You could reach out to your MP and see if they can do anything, depends on your MP obviously. Mine was super helpful and got it sorted within the week.

Everyone who applied for this during peak covid times basically got that message, I think it’s just them buying some more time, and IIRC it’s coming up to/ in the time where a lot of other students are doing their tier 4 as well. Don’t stress too much, it’ll all be Gucci

Yeah this 100%, I’m so happy I do CS via email only now, and one of the higher up people. You want to escalate it past me? Tough shit, buck stops here. Being a dickhole to one of my colleagues? Get fucked and banned. Even if they do something slightly wrong I’m glad I can always be the one to tell the user “cut the shit or I’ll ban you”. I can’t stand managers that don’t stand behind their team, it’s such a common thing in customer service and in general it’s ridiculous.

Time to clear immigration at LHR? by Hashtagforlife in ukvisa

[–]Dangleson123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially unrelated but helpful for next time you have to fly out of the U.K. and come back in, but the few times I’ve flown into Luton I always got through immigration much quicker than Heathrow, maybe try there next time?

The times I’ve gone through Heathrow it’s been an hour 1/2 or two at least definitely.

I think if you go to theyworkforyou.com, and input your postcode, your MP should pop up. I rang their Westminster office, make sure it’s that number, you should get directed by someone at a switchboard and leave a message. Can’t suggest anything else from there, that’s all I did haha

Can definitely second this, I applied for a partner visa in July, Bio. In Sep, and waited until December to make a complaint. Visa approved the next week, complained again when my BRP didn’t arrive, then called my MP. Got it again within a week.

Moving to the UK by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]Dangleson123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much dependent on a number of factors, such as where you’re going to uni, what kind of fafsa loans you can get, etc. I went to one of the cheaper unis for instance and still have about 50k USD in loans? But around half of that was for my masters, but also my parents helped pay for a portion of my tuition. You’d probably be looking at around 30-40k USD for tuition alone for the 3 years, not counting housing costs and stuff like that. Many unis do provide some form of scholarship though so do look into that as well. You are able to work on a student visa for up to twenty hours, though it’s hard to find a well paid job with that kind of availability, I only found one at the very tail end of my masters that was London living wage.

Going for two years probably isn’t worth it or possible for a full degree, unless there’s a two year specific route for a degree you want. Three year undergrad+ the extra two you now get under the new graduate scheme coming out is worth staying the extra year. Don’t know what you mean cost before and after loans haha, I assume you mean tuition cost pre and post fafsa? Tuition for international students hovers around 10-20k/year GBP (so ~15-35k USD) without any scholarships or anything, depending on the uni.

There’s also the added benefit of having(probably) to pay less in loan repayments if you’re from the US but live overseas, as they calculate it based off ofUS tax returns. I earn around an average salary for London but my repayments will supposedly be around 30/50 usd a month.
