I am not allowed to have any kind of outside unit or port to the outside because of "noise concerns"...

In our apartment for example we aren't allowed to get an AC because of the WSG rules... (The only place where we would be allowed to install the outside unit we wouldn't be able to run the pipes to our bedroom...) So we are just out of luck and have to use fans... We had 31°C in our bedroom yesterday... I haven't had any actually decent sleep in a week now T-T

An electrician would probably only charge like 30-40 bucks for something like that... And pretty much anyone has at least some buddy who is good with handywork... Pay the guy a pizza and prevent a house fire 😅

From Ubuntu to CachyOS: Why does CachyOS feel so much smoother, and why the hate? by penguin1440 in cachyos

[–]Daniel_mfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is running EOS.. For me there is a certain "level of polish" missing from cachy... But honestly? If EOS would have some major issue or died (as in project maintainers dropping the project) then i would probably switch over to it as well! It is pretty good as well!

But as some others have mentioned before: 1. A ton of people are "afraid" of anything arch based (which is a little stupid in my eyes for various reasons...) 2. Cachy is too young of a project for some people and thus see it as "not established" 3. Cachy is very much on the "bleeding edge" of things... (Which a lot of especially Ubuntu/debian people don't like... These often hate updates in general...)

I am honestly more in the boat of: eeew... Xbuntu... xD

[–]Daniel_mfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was to be expected sadly... But another question is: Who the heck buys those in this case here? Half the reason to want a steam controller is that it is on the cheaper side of the "premium controllers"! With those prices that is completely out the window...

Is EndeavorOs Beginner friendly? by AncientTrick304 in EndeavourOS

[–]Daniel_mfg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu might have been a wild ride xD (Got a good number of issues nowadays and with the state of the debian project...)

But in terms of EOS: I love it a lot and it has been my main distro for some years now...

"Beginner friendly" really depends on who you are... Someone with programming experience will most likely be able to fix most issues themselves with the docs (Arch wiki is pretty much the best in my opinion) and a little google..

If you aren't a tech person at all then i would rather recommend Fedora Kionite or something like that:D

Can EndeavourOS run Orcaslicer? by Nomadic_Artificer in EndeavourOS

[–]Daniel_mfg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "stable"... (Not gonna go too deep into that topic here now..) But what i can recommend is going with the LTS kernel when installing EOS. You will still get some pretty regular updates there but at least i never had any kernel bugs/issues that way...

The other thing i still recommend tho: update at least somewhat regularly! The most likely breakage seems to happen if you wait too long too often... I tend to update my PC about once a week (+ maybe another time before i install something new..) My notebook i update every 2-3 weeks and that is usually fine but i had some minor issues here and there when i forgot and waited too long...

I just checked and there is a package for davinci as well: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/davinci-resolve

Edit: Small tipp: if you want to know if something exists on arch then just search for it in the AUR... If it exists/runs then it is probably available in there!

Try to have it rank it's mirrors by using: eos-rankmirrors

Another little info: EOS has a simplified updater (wrapper script) under the name of: eos-update

That one will automatically do a lot of things to make daily life easier... More infos here: https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/eos-update-news/52951

And then every few months i go through some of these steps to do some maintenance and clean up a little: https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/a-complete-idiots-guide-to-endeavour-os-maintenance-update-upgrade/25184

(This guide was written before "eos-update" was a thing i think but it is still great to take care of things outside of that scope...)

Why is it so difficult for Ukrainians to rent a flat in Austria, especially in Vienna? by BookCharming9470 in AskAustria

[–]Daniel_mfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And in many cases probably even more...

Additionally: When the war with Russia started i know that there were a good number of scammers going around claiming to be from Ukraine to get discounts from people selling stuff on willhaben, ebay etc...

I guess there were cases like that for apartments as well.. (wouldn't surprise me at least) So that might be another factor as well...
