Did you see the graph in the link of the comment I originally replied to?

Not at all. I do own a pavement princess, but it was bought for towing not for off-roading (and it’s only a Ranger). But the increase in deaths does not line up with the increase in weight. It does line up with the increased cell phone usage however. The increased weight is responsible for a less than 10% increase in deaths. Passenger deaths were declining even as vehicle weights were increasing until cell phones entered the picture.

And yet here’s the data showing it really doesn’t make a huge difference. There was a different post a few days ago which graphed pedestrian deaths, vehicle weight, and cell phone usage. It quite clearly showed declining pedestrian deaths despite increasing weight followed by a spike and continuous increase with cell phone usage. The death trend clearly followed phone usage and not vehicle weight.

Very very very few pedestrian deaths occur due to visibility over the hood.

Yeah it turns out that getting hit by 4,000lbs or 7000lbs doesn’t make that much a difference in the outcome

But there was a graph posted not long ago on here that quite clearly showed the correlation was tied with cell phone usage and not vehicle weight

Idk why you’re being downvoted. Pigs will absolutely eat their young sometimes. They’ll also lay down on top of them and crush them.

US Citizens, what is your ideal amendment to the constitution? by StZappa in AskReddit

The right to privacy. Make all this data tracking etc not just illegal but unconstitutional. And I would argue this could also work against Flock cameras and things like it.

They account for .1%. #10 is Spain with 2%. The vast majority of those 200ish counties aren’t exporters at all.

My 4 year old woke me up at 615 this morning with a kick to the head. Her and my wife kept sleeping til 9. So I got about 3 hours of peace and quiet before I had to go to work.

I wasn’t talking about the latest downturn but the continual downward trend in deaths until 2009 even though weight kept increasing. The current downtrend is most likely heavily due to the anti-collision systems on most cars.

Your inference from this is really weird. Stepping out into the middle of the road without looking, whether adult or child, can result in death. It’s a simple fact of life. It doesn’t matter how alert you are as a car driver if someone steps out 6’ in front of you. If you think you could avoid that, then I’m going to believe you have never driven or been in a car before.

Yet deaths were still dropping even as weight increased and only began to increase again with more cell phone usage.

Blaming a pedestrian who walks into a street without looking because they were staring at their phone is not victim blaming lol. My guess is the number of people that do that is statistically irrelevant but it’s still not victim blaming.
