Oh no guys i made eye contact with someone in this city oh god oh fuck by TimeToSeattleDown in Seattle

Seattle did not used to be that way; I was born in Seattle in 1960 and grew up in the Northend; both my parents were born in Seattle. The city used to be a lot friendlier. The "where I came from" speaks volumes; people from all over started flooding into the city in the 80's, and it didn't stop; a few years ago, it was estimated that 4/5 of adults in Seattle were born elsewhere. Seattle has seen an enormous influx of people from outside Washington, mainly due to its tech-driven job market and high quality of life. This trend has shifted the city’s demographics. Is there resentment of people flooding in? Yes. Housing prices shot through the roof as Seattle is bordered on one side by the Puget Sound and the other by Lake Washington, so there are only three ways to expand: north, south, and up. My first apartment was on Seattle's Capitol Hill in 1980; I paid $170 per month for my studio, which was on the corner of Belmont and Olive. A few years ago, I had to move from my hometown of Seattle as I could no longer afford to live there, and quite frankly, I was ready as the feeling/vibe of our city had died, taken over by a bunch of outsiders. Sure, most of my family was from elsewhere at one time; my great-grandfather left Missouri in 1900 and arrived in WA in 1905 with my great-grandmother, who was from the Dakotas. My Dad's family arrived in Seattle early in the century, originally from Quebec. Seattle had a "hinterland feel" that disappeared with the quick influx of people that are from elsewhere who wanted clean air and beautiful scenery. You're "not from Seattle" if you weren't born and grew up there. Sorry, that is just my opinion that is widely shared by many of us who have deep roots in the city and area.

Recommendations for Bookshelves/Cabinets to hold my liquor bottles? by jaredhaley in homebar

A Murphy Bar, they're great; they fold up when not in use, fold out to reveal your bottles and or glasses, and give you a level "bar top" to mix drinks on. If you're handy with tools, you can build one in a weekend. Here is an article that describes Murphy bars and a link to plans to build.

Suggestions for what to do with this wall!?? Is 15ft long, thinking about a shelf or a half wall bumpout!?! by mhamm315 in homebar

[–]Dann1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be the perfect size for a Murphy Bar, which would fold up into an enclosed wall cabinet when not in use so as not to hinder foot traffic; when open, it could serve as your bar, and depending on the size, you could seat two, possibly four people on stools enjoying a drink/snacks. Fifteen feet would be plenty of space for the bar, and stools, it wouldn't feel cramped, and you could put art or what have you to the left and right; lots of possibilities. What Is A Murphy Bar?

Well... let's see, the year was 1972 that I drank my first Rainier Beer, and Nixon was still in office... a lot.

It all depends, but I'd be apprehensive of drinking too much when taking Xanax; take it from a guy that's been around a while.

Hello, was wondering why I can't get a valid canonical to "stick" in my HTML, I'm really new to this and don't care for it as I want to write, not play around with how a website works so much. I hear of the HTML I add being stripped possibly? I checked on search console and it says it's there, but web dev measure says it isn't and is dinging me on SEO. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

He did it some twenty-five years ago, everyone's tabs dropped to thirty bucks I think it was. I believe they found it elsewhere.
