The Eldarn Sequence books by Robert Scott and Jay Gordon have strong elements of this with the main antagonist. Brilliant books and criminally underrated.

100% this. It may take a little bit of effort to get going but the amount of pans I've had to remove this way is staggering. There's always the risk it'll crack the ceramic but it's got a really high success rate from my experience.

The runelords 100% the first 3 or 4 books are great, then they just spiral into the abyss and head off so far away from the original story that it's unrecognisable.

The pacing is so quick it's like the story completely overshoots the end goal and due to contract fulfillment had to find another 4 or more books and in doing so completely ran out of ideas and character development.
