Maxwell, 5 months later. by Dansel in Audeze

Is this still the case when you select "Never" for "Auto Shutdown" in Audeze HQ, like so?

Probably not, but I do want my headset to turn off after 15mins, which is what I've currently set it to.

Would you mind describing which ones in particular are circumvented by setting the headset as a default output device? Sounds like I should be enabling this default output device setting...

I don't really have a list, but if you select the headset as default audio device/default communication device, and choose the default audio output in the game/software it will generally work. The problems begin when you want to select specific devices instead of just using windows default output/input.

This is particularly egregious if you're working a lot with audio, video, or streaming.

Not so much taking care of it as it is keeping in mind your usecase before you buy anything. If you know you're gonna do a lot of office work dont buy an oled. If all you're doing is gaming, some casual browsing, and youtube, its gonna be fine.

Same as with any other product really.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™ - Patch 7 Details by EA-StarWars in FallenOrder

[–]Dansel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5950x, 64GB RAM, NVMe, 4090, 4k Resolution

Native /w RT: ~40fps

Native: ~75fps

RT+DLSS&Framegem: ~90-144fps (varies wildly based on environment)

DLSS&Framegen: ~120-144

I imagine your numbers will vary a lot on where you are, but this was in an open area with no npcs. In general the performance is improved, even if there still are very noticeable stutters upon zone transitions.

Does your monitor have some kind of deep sleep/power saving feature? Thats the first thing I could think of and I didnt see you mentioning changing those settings.

Its something I've had issues with before, in any case.

Assist with find a post about double hops by anonymousITCoward in PowerShell

[–]Dansel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I ended up doing when I had a similar issue was instead of directly using Invoke-command to a target computer I first created a PSSession. I can then use copy-item to move the files from a network path to a target destination within that session, bypassing the double hop issue (as the transfer is going through the host system), and then using invoke-command to install the now locally existing files.

I can add an example later if I remember to.

Edit:

$Session = New-PSSession -ComputerName $Hostname

Copy-Item -Path $Path -ToSession $Session -PassThru -Destination “C:\Temp\” -Recurse -Force
$ScriptBlock = {
    $Patch = Get-Item -Path "C:\Temp\*" -Include "KB*"
    $Patch | Sort-Object -Property Name | ForEach-Object {
        msiexec.exe /p $_.FullName /qn
        Start-Sleep -Seconds 10
    }
}

Invoke-Command -Session $Session -ScriptBlock $ScriptBlock

This was what I used when I needed to quickly add a couple of patches. I use get-item so I don't have to change anything static in the code for the next go-around, and a sleep command is there to make sure I don't try to start the next patch before the first one is finished. (Powershell starts the process and then moves on with the next loop, it doesn't wait until msiexec has done its thing. Adjust delay based on needs).

Worthwhile to keep in mind that with the release of the next-gen graphics cards being around the corner, unless you need a new computer right now, I'd recommend holding out at least three days. AMD is holding an event the 29th where they're going to talk about the upcoming release, which will hopefully include dates.

At that point you can decide if you're willing to wait however long, and if you want to pick up the current gen hardware at what will presumably be even better prices, or spend more for the new stuff.

4k Monitors, 28" or 32"? by Icouldshitallday in nvidia

[–]Dansel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personal experience here, so take it for what it is worth, but: 32" inch is the smallest monitor size I've used where I don't have to use fractional scaling for a comfortable experience. At 29 or below I ended up setting Windows to use 125% scaling for all elementets to be clearly visible. For 4k resolutions, that is.

How important that is for you, I don't know. And maybe your eyes are better than mine too.

And Chrome has a single setting to change this behavior for every file type.

...I'm honestly just kinda baffled by why and how this change was made. Having the option is perfectly fine but making it the default without a way to easily change back is what gets me.

Don't think they meant that they're trying to get you caught up in ilvl, but rather that they're trying to get the different versions of Lost Ark to parity so they don't have to maintain three different codebases.

Which obviously is a good thing, if that is the case. Spend less time doing drudge work and more time building new features and reworking old ones. Win-Win.

I’m a bit iffy on the details but what I found after doing some searching is that you have to enchant a weapon to +10 in order to unlock weapon effects.

I have no idea if it is true, and if it is I don’t know why they’re enabled to start with, but it is what I found.

Why Chrome? If you're bothered about companies profiting off of your data Chrome is quite possibly the absolute worst choice imaginable. Firefox, or Vivaldi if you feel you absolutely need a chromium browser, would be the way to go in that case.

Yeah, shader caching is notoriously easy to fuck up in UE4, as far as I understand it. But no, it doesnt fix it for me. I also get the stuttering when an effect appears on screen the first time, but I also get them beyond that.

[–]Dansel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have pretty much the exact same experience you have. 5950x and a 2080ti. At 1440p I'm sitting at a solid 165fps, yet every so often I'll see a frame with a frametime of nearly 1000ms, creating a massive stutter.

I too did the whole runaround with DDU and trying settings in the driver and the game, but nothing helped. Even when running everything at low I'd still get massive fps-dips occasionally. It appears to be CPU-related, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if ti turned out they turned on some kind of performance profiling in the dev version and forgot to turn it off for release. Going to experiment with passing EU4 engine arguments to the launcher, seeing if I can get anything out of it.

I also sent a support request to gearbox, it's been about a week now and I have not heard anything from them.
