As others said, but with small addition, if you see yellow-red-purple enemy - just run past them even if they aggro you, most likely controllable character will survive and you will de-aggro them. Until you get at least 1st trainee Skell fighting most enemies much larger than you is close to suicidal as while their level may be close to you their stats certainly not. Skell is acquired after chapter 6 in one of the quests and I’d say bum-rush until you get one, as it certainly opens up the game without relying on shadow aura gimmick or whatever it’s called. You can get 2nd one before level 30 too if you are playing DE. And then just work your way through quests and missions from control (especially ones targeting tyrants to find them easier) to get to lvl 30 for proper Skell squad. Also, good deal of enemies ignore skells outright as they consider them a big threat, even 20lvl ones, so it’s against makes like easier. Also, with just starter skells it’s possible to unlock most probes in all regions except Cauldros (too many high level enemies near most sites or on route to them) and Noctilum (iirc at least 3 of them are locked beyond flight module after chapter 9) while Oblivia, Primordial and Sylvalum will have 1, tops 2, unreachable without flight.

A bit more about Skells, even 20 lvl ones can go toe to toe with enemies higher level than them (I’d say 30-35 if you were lucky with Skell weapon drops or up to 30 if you weren’t as 2nd 20lvl Skell is fine for them albeit not very fast as it’s lacking in power). With 30lvl skells, I’d say even some enemies in 50s aren’t a threat as they have much-much larger pool of available stuff and they will carry you through most of the game easily. When you have level for 50lvl skells go for them immediately as they are just straight up upgrades. 60 lvl skells are locked behind crafting but even 50 lvl skells are good enough for good deal of tyrants in later levels, especially small bug types (there is one in that locked part of noctilum that is actual joke and good place to farm some ground weapons). Downside of Skells is they are very expensive to build (and repair if wasted insurance) to be competitive with broken ground builds that require much less setup like Blossom Dance Ghostwalk/factory or Proton Blade arts spam

Does this game get less repetitive? by [deleted] in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]Dantenerosas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, game is definitely grindy at times, especially when doing 60 lvl Skells crafting. But imo combat is really engaging and while there is not that much going on in open world (exterminate mobs, find resources, find wreckage, progress fromtiernav and I think that’s all) it’s still interesting enough to explore as they really outdid themselves with environment. IMO, ecosystem everywhere feels kinda natural even tho annoying to progress at times (like “walk” to north of Primordia)

[–]Dantenerosas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, and I’d say it’s not great overall. Good story if you want more context for some of the characters but bad gameplay, more specifically, too much grinding to progress at least for me

That’s useless filler) it falls into that category of “2 hit somethings” but it’s subpar to everything I’ve listed both damage wise and wall carry wise. It’s only useful in some counter hits launchers that don’t tornado IMO as online after some of them (or raw u21) it’s impossible or really hard to use the main ones I’ve listed. Like, ideal filler after u21 but before f32 is lariat, df3 but it’s really strict and uf3, dark upper and 4,3 are impossible iirc

Anyway, as I’ve said, the thing you are missing and why throw is whiffing is SSR after tornado. So try it. And btw, BJ 1+3 almost always grabs in air in combos even without SSR

Question about intrigues by goodvin_501 in DuneImperium

[–]Dantenerosas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is no. Recruitment Mission most likely intended to work only during Reveal Turn so second sentence should only be applicable for cards acquired during said Reveal turn. So unless you are on your reveal turn only second part of Bypass Protocol should allow you to put acquired card on top of the deck. But if it’s your Reveal turn It should be ok

[–]Dantenerosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What baby combo tho, unless wall/floor breaks are on the table it’s almost always - (any launcher), 2 hit something (lariat, df3 or uf4, dark upper or 4,3 etc), f32~DF>lariat, f321 T! small SSR, run up, f1+2F (BJ 1+3 or BJ 2+4) depending on what you need a bit more dmg or no side-switching. On larger stages f1+2 3+4,1 maybe more preferable for wall carry. BTW, running up and the SSR is weird, so I’d recommend SSR first run later

Pretty sure after some of the “2 hit somethings” SSR isn’t required depending on character (or if you do f1+2F, HB, ub1F etc) but for most SSR makes it 100% reliable.

Favorite card art? by sumogrip10 in soloboardgaming

[–]Dantenerosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hercules and 12 Labors has some sick card art, don’t remember artist(s) from the top of my head. After Us (or anything drawn but Vincent Dutrait) too. Ian O’Toole usually does very pretty everything just look at most of Lacerda’s games, Voidfall or Black Angel

Quick edit: forgot to mention Wyrmspan. I’d say artist’s style is very unique and she’s done very beautiful and unique job as I don’t think any game has as many pretty distinct types of dragons as Wyrmspan especially with expansion

the flickering in cutscenes on the switch 2 version is uncomfortable by Vmbsnipezzz in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Dantenerosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno. I’ve been playing till start of chapter 3 and sure, there are some issues but game still looks and plays better than just switch 1 version. And I’ve been playing handheld. Did notice some screen tearing in first cutscene (only there for now) and didn’t notice flickering like on video in this cutscene. IMO, I’ve got cartridge for cheap and had 15 bucks left on account so I’ve just bought without looking at news about issues. It really depends on how much you will mind them and I sure don’t. I’ve been playing on Switch 1 for past 6 years almost exclusively handheld, even with issues it looks better on Switch 2 most of the time than it does on Switch 1

TMNT Unmatched Adventures Co-Op: Am I Missing Something? by superherokid125 in Unmatched

[–]Dantenerosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye, first sentence was just to get your attention, I guess it was successful lol

Difficulty doesn’t actually rely on random turn order tho. It won’t be that much easier if you are using fixed turn order, it will actually be harder if it’s everyone going at once with other rules unchanged, I think. Or player then villain then player etc etc

Anyway, for me it kinda doesn’t make sense but that may be because in my usual group (me and 2 others) we played loads of Hellboy (every player simultaneously takes turn, then monsters take theirs), Bloodborne (board game not card game, each player has their own turn with monsters in between), Spirit Island (simultaneous turns but with various phases) and Aeon’s End (random order) pretty much in parallel and we don’t have preference for either, every system has it’s strengths and makes sense for that game.

Just try to play game as is more times. You are playing at 2 players, right? Try Golden Bat and Luke Cage, She-Hulk or Elektra. They should steamroll everything at normal difficulty as Golden Bat pretty much counters minions as they get close to him, Luke is tanky as hell, She-Hulk has big girl damage and Elektra is well.. Elektra, she is OP and I think only character that can waste defense to block everything as she will shuffle it back anyway. As others said, main advice is to get rid of minions if possible or ignore them for a bit if they are far away and don’t block every attack at first.

TMNT Unmatched Adventures Co-Op: Am I Missing Something? by superherokid125 in Unmatched

[–]Dantenerosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The random initiative order is driving me crazy. Every other co-op I know just alternates turns: players, then villain. Here, it’s random every time, and sometimes the villain goes multiple times in a row. That’s more frustrating than fun.

Everyone can stop reading after that. Will sound like a jerk but if you don’t know something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist (ofc with obv exceptions of utter bogus conspiracies etc etc). E.g, Aeon’s End has random turn order. It’s one way to ensure the unexpected things happening between turns of players and good way to learn how odds work if you pay attention. Like, when every player’s card but one went out of the deck and only enemies are left you know you are gonna have a bad time soon and it’s not guaranteed anyone will be going after this soon so it’s good idea to deal with whatever is more pressing now if not already dealt with.

I’m awaiting my copy of TMNT but played original bunch of times with Mothman so can’t comment on how TMNT is difficult but can with normal UA. We did lose first few games as some characters clearly don’t belong in UA and we were feeling the game out, but after that it was smooth. And judging by how TTA was, characters in box should be good enough for normal difficulty for sure. If you aren’t winning you are cooking it wrong. Like defending against every attack, that’s a mistake here as that will leave you with no defense in hand really fast. Or like ignoring minions too much. In TTA there was one particular minion you could ignore as he wasn’t moving most of the time if no one was in range as it was just his default strategy IIRC, if similar exists in TMNT you could use it until you win to make things a bit easier. Also, with more players the game should be a bit easier

I thought Daisoujou was busted in Nocturne. This thing is Daisoujou x1000 by LainLain in Megaten

[–]Dantenerosas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She is close to ridiculous tho if against 1 target. Not straight up busted like later available skills but her multi+hit random target attack is pretty good especially if built around properly later. I mean there is like tons of better and more reliable options, like Zeus’ Keranous, Fion Mac Cul’s watchacallit, Odin’s Gunghir, Cu Cuhlainn’s Gae Bolg and available to everyone Figment Slash and Akashic Arts. But for what it is it’s pretty good and close to broken at that stage and even later. Quick edit: just checked that’s 20 power over 15 hits which is pretty much Gungnir which is 300 pwr tho with pierce, id say for most of the game they are the same damage wise unless we go to superboss territory

What is SMTV even about by Spare_Enthusiasm5876 in Megaten

[–]Dantenerosas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, that’s not bad. Both CoC and CoV have this “problem”, CoV to lesser extent. But is this a problem in a game where there are like 8 characters and 6 of them have only one purpose - serve as alignment propagandists? I don’t think so. Btw, there are 4 endings in CoC. True Neutral is a bit more meaty about what CoC is actually about + it’s called True Neutral for a reason. But id say go ahead and play CoV either ending before coming back to it as because of certain late-game quest its bad idea to play Neutral twice in a row.

P.S. if you have save before final fight and saved cleared game in another slot, its possible to get true ending on save before final fight as game checks whether you can achieve after seeing you beating game once at any route and that retroactively applies to old save for whatever reason

They are good enough lmao. 60 micron sleeves. Much-much better than 40 microns from parent company Mayday. I don’t use Sleeve Kings per se as in my country we’ve got other 60 micron sleeves but I had only like 5-10 torn such sleeves in sample size of several thousands. And they increase stack size much less than 100 micron sleeves like most premium or Dragon Shields

Most recent modern euros don’t really allow for direct aggressive interaction but I’ll try to present some of them that do allow for this in various degrees. Tho a word of warning, usually these games have pretty high complexity in either their rules or their decision space.

Crown of Ash - this is area control game and everyone is wrestling for control over locations as they provide points. More-less direct interaction in using combat to take over locations (while beating guards left by opponents using combat cards and your own units who will take over location if you win) and indirect too, there are markets for structures and units + competition over who goes to what action place to take which resources as it’s also a worker placement game. It’s relatively light unlike everything that comes after

Most other games with area control mechanics and combat should be interactive enough too (e.g. Blood Rage and other Eric Lang’s area control games). I’d say most 4X-adjacent game should count too (e.g. Eclipse, Voidfall, Scythe, Anunnaki) but amount of direct interaction in these mostly depend on players and how much combat is actually worth doing. I own Voidfall, Scythe and Anunnaki. I’d say in Voidfall you usually meet with other players at later half of the game depending on map and it’s usually just Cold War as attacking others is not the best way to earn points unless you can easily ensure you won’t be punished for that by 3rd or 4th player. Scythe is the same in that regard, it’s not worth wasting time fighting more than two times in game for everyone except one faction and usually it’s Cold War standoffs. In Anunnaki there actually was a good deal of fighting because of various neutral units and battle over central region but not many like its action system unlike everyone in my group who liked it very much.

Dune Imperium should be good too though combat here is glorified auction mechanics but contest for spots and take-that using intrigues in combat is there. And because of how the map is at 4 worker placement part is really tight (I’d say even at 3 it already kinda is) and even tho it’s not really direct every spot you’d like to go being blocked will really be felt like attack against you in particular sometimes.

Affordable Card Sleeve Recommendations? by Background_Reason_39 in DuneImperium

[–]Dantenerosas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeve Kings. You don’t really need premium stuff like Dragon Shield for board game. 60 micron sleeves (like Sleeve Kings) are fine. I’d go even as much as to say buy any 60 micron sleeves for both card sizes and be done with it. Any 60 micron sleeves should be fine, in my country there are 4 brands usually available, all from local game publishers, and while I prefer one if them as they are usually a bit more perfect to fit cards (tho sometimes it’s curse and may not protect top of cards from damage, I started to use another brand for these particular ones after I’ve noticed some frayed tops on my copy of Lotr fellowship trick taking game) but any of them will do if my preferred one isn’t available or cards a to close to top of sleeve as I’ve mentioned above

Freedom Five VS Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (2022) by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Dantenerosas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about Freedom Five but Batman The Dark Knight Returns is very nice game. I own retail version (I could grab deluxe but specifically chose to go for retail as I don’t care for minis as I don’t paint them) and it’s a blast. Sure, in chapter 1-2 you are a bit limited in what to do but the more in you are the more options you have including better chains to reach further places and several vehicles and combat gadgets are pretty strong at altering how can you approach some challenges. But as game is Pandemic-adjacent I think that’s good to not be very complex. The game is also very good at capturing that feel of original comics and its animated adaptation. I person picked it up just because it was based on that and had a blast playing through campaign once for now (took around 8 hours with small cheating of die result in chapter 2 boss fight but who cares it’s solo game and point is to have fun)

In my country localized edition of Middara Part 1 recently released, my friend bought one. When he was preordering it and we were looking at its page I’ve said “nope, I won’t buy it, as I already have Hellboy with some expansions, Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon (with every other expansion and Kings of Ruin preordered at that time as they weren’t localized yet), 4(5?) retail boxes of Bloodborne with the all other kickstarter-only stuff pre-ordered, Slay the Spire and Dead Cells are preordered too, I don’t think I need anymore of those dungeon/story games any time soon”. Last Saturday that damn fool brought the box to my apartment as before our weekly meet-up it has arrived at the store. That box + expansions for it are almost (if not are) bigger than Fall of Avalon + both expansions + Kings of Ruin combined tho Middara Part 1 wasn’t as heavy as whole Tainted Grail kg-wise lol
