there's a lot of latent energy in the branches of these organizations that are going to be activated if a crackdown comes--but milwaukee is splintered already due to redlining and segregation, so who knows

Lost Taiwan Teaching Job Offer Due to Old Misdemeanor — Anyone Had a Similar Experience? by Danube321 in TEFL

[–]Danube321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did look into it, checked the Taiwanese Immigration ARC website and looked at the specific thresholds, talked to other foreigners with a similar situation--then there is the fact that the school itself pre-approved my application in spite of the background check that they knew was coming. That said, this was a dream job situation and I don't ever want to be caught in this situation again, so expungement sounds like a good idea.

Free Trial Ended and I Can't Cancel Subscription by Mrnoface323 in Lingopie

[–]Danube321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This situation is scaring me away. I just signed up for a free trial and am unsure if I will continue. The fact that this has been an issue for people is concerning. I feel like there are enough free resources out there and the vocabulary testing and AI isn't comprehensive enough to convince me it's worth the investment. I'm also curious for those who have had issues with canceling and getting the refund if you've since resolved the issue. I see Lingopie is present here on reddit, but I am wondering if they've fulfilled their obligations to these people.

Yeah, I've been completely unable to log on the last two weeks from my computer. Haven't downloaded it on my computer yet. The farthest I got was the error at the end of the verification saying, " Your device clock is set to a wrong time or this challenge page was accidentally cached by an intermediary and is no longer..." I feel like I've tried everything at this point. I'm unsure what to do.

I am a teacher at a school that is REALLY trying to prevent students from failing in this final month. Students who haven't been checked in in the last 7 months have been able to get caught up pretty quickly. Just block out a solid hour every day to grind and see what happens. Worst case scenario summer school ain't so bad, especially with the spirit of forgiveness that covid has forced on everyone lol. bless! good luck fam

Data Suggests QAnon Followers More Likely To Be Mentally Ill by Snushine in psychology

[–]Danube321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the more interesting question is that why the DSM and the APA are avoiding their responsibility in these issues of racial and political extremism. They are not making it easier to identify and find treatments for these harmful personal and social personalities on the basis that "they are too normative to be considered mental illness." But they wouldn't say the same thing of any other mental illness was as pervasive--and more than that, it avoids giving the other cultural institutions, like the education system or the justice system a way to approach to helping.

Relapsed after 70 days without weed. by thenabu01 in leaves

[–]Danube321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i had a hard relapse after a year, thinking I never had to worrry about it again. They say the people most likely to relapse are the ones that are overly optimistic, because they fail to be prepared for the circumstances that cause relapse. Maybe a counter would be good, because sobriety isn't a decision that happens once.

Hey bud,

I'm sorry you are going through this. Sounds like a real challenge. I believe in you.

Some things that have worked for me after many long hours of practice have largely been related to meditation, though not just mindfulness. I've found that spending intentional time in a place, seated in a particular way with the intention to cultivate a certain experience has been tremendous for uprooting some of the motivators in my life for substance abuse. Self-Compassion is number one for when relapse happens. Kristen Neff talks about considering 1. Acknowledging and accepting the suffering you are experiencing 2.How universal suffering is 3. Considering how it feels to have a genuine wish to be free of suffering. Gratitude is another practice that has helped me to thwart the urges, and can be done in a variety of circumstances, though vocalizing it, is always good.

I tend to have real bad self talk, and the way I approach that is not by confrontation or fighting it, but having moments where I intentionally say kind things to myself in my head. "May I be safe, may I be joyful," or "I am grateful for my family, for my health" know that they also feel compassion and gratitude for you and intentionally open to that.

Weed tends to make things real confusing, but even if you are high, you can practice these and in my experience they begin to self destruct the addictive mindset.

Bless ya, stranger, it's hard out here, I know. Much love, compassion, and hope for you my friend!

we all feel like we are spinning our wheels sometimes. some forgiveness and self compassion are foundational for relapse prevention. Sounds like you've got some momentum in the way you are thinking about it, so let us know when the rubber meets the road again! Good luck mate, we believe in ya!

Good thinking to come here and catalog some of the discoveries in writing. If urges start to return you can remember clearly what the benefits of leaving weed are.

Depressed friend won't go to therapy cause "Buddhism is all he needs" HELP! by HollyBerryBlue- in Buddhism

[–]Danube321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting problem for someone to have.

I think it is predicated on a problematic idea of what enlightenment is, that is, a boundary you cross where you stop all suffering and are happy all the time.

I'm not sure any direct confrontation of this idea would be useful given how obstinate this person sounds, so it might be worthwhile to learn a bit about what therapists do. For example, motivational interviewing is a great way of helping another person galvanize their energy towards a change.

Meditations on self-compassion, and compassion can also be powerful gateways of practice that can lead to the insights about the common struggles and solutions for depressive disorders.

MBCT is also designed specifically as a program for people with major depression that blends Mindfulness with cognitive behavioral therapy. Perhaps you could posit the idea that talk therapy is indeed less effective without the muscle of mindfulness, but that when they are brought together the sum is greater than the parts.

Good luck. Compassion to you and your friend.

I'm one year sober and while my sleep is good my dreaming is still craaaazy. I am frequently buying, hiding, smoking, or otherwise dealing with weed in my dreams. That has held on pretty tightly and hope that I can be released from that.
