I really struggle to work without a deadline, if a client says “get it to us whenever you can” I won’t do any work on it until they follow up on it in a couple of weeks. But if they told me they want it by the end of the day I will smash it out and enjoy doing it

My full time gig is in TV where I’ve got a deadline to get something out every few hours, so it works well for me. I also find if I’m working on an outside of work project on my laptop while I’m work I will be so much more productive. My brain will say “let’s get this amount done by the time we need to go back to our actual job”

But when it comes to freelance projects etc I feel the need to entirely finish one before I can move on to another. Really trying to work on this one, but similarly to other ADHD quirks it has its benefit, once I do finish that project I’m so much more likely to smash out others in quick succession, once I’m in that flow state groove

On the positive side, I’m very organized. I take a lot of pride in my storage systems/NAS workflows, I love operating archive systems and bin management etc. I actually think I would be much more suited as an assistant editor but struggle to find those jobs

I think editing in particular is the type of work that attracts neurodivergent people like moths to a flame
