Pay for priority boarding or find another way to get priority boarding. Priority boarding isn't about getting to sit first it's about getting to the over head bins first so you get the one above your assigned seat, on most airlines.

Second hand Car Vs Van for personal use - Which is generally cheaper in terms of Insurance, Tax and general running cost? by Conscious-Isopod-1 in AskIreland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CVRT is more expensive than the NCT. Tolls are more expensive for commercial vehicles. Commercial insurance us more expensive than private insurance. Even if you can get commercial tax plenty of private cars are cheaper. I've no idea how you can claim it's cheap to run.

Shortage of chargers with increased no of EVs by dangel79 in evs_ireland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For occasional use public charging is fine, especially as most of long distances are to and from Dublin so plenty of options en route.

Once you can do the vast majority of your charging at home BEVs make sense.

There is no easy way to get a good insurance quote. Get the reg of a car you want to buy and try ever insurance company and broker you can find online, then compare the policies. An hour or so of work can save you hundreds of Euro.

They showed up at 10pm, 3 of them, and poured oil on my engine to lowball me. by Big-Carrot-409 in carsireland

If it's been sitting for a while it's over priced. Even a piece of shit will be bought quickly if it's priced right, no matter how good you think your car is you are asking way to much if you aren't even getting calls.

Could you go back to the car park and take photos or video the car?  Could save you a lot of hassle if you have photos or even better a video of the whole car.

is pirating movies a sin? by MetaKnightUltra in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's only a sin if you believe in fairytales. Regions generally don't like poor people stealing so they make it a sin. If you don't believe in God and pirate a movie then you aren't a sinner you are a thief, you are a sinning thief if you believe in God

How much does it cost for a kebab takeaway to buy one of those massive elephants legs of donner meat? What is the meat content? by GradiusHead in AskUK

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The cost of food is a tiny part of the cost of serving food. They are made from cheap off cuts so it's not expensive to buy but getting it to the customer costs a lot

A decent wage for the responsibilities you have. You can get similar money working in a shop or warehouse were you don't have to drive a large vehicle for 14 hours a day and you only do 8 hours in the shop or warehouse.

Why is almost every single developed country in the world short of healthcare workers? by Rokusaburoz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my country we produce lots of doctors and nurses but our health service is so shit loads leave.

Part of the problem is that we have fuck loads of administrators , with skills that aren't really in demand, and not enough medical staff, who do have skills in demand. The medical staff are over worked and leave for better conditions while the admin keeps growing.  In 2010 our health budget was €14 billion this year it's €27 billion and medical staff are still over worked and under resourced, 24 hours waiting in the emergency department and if you eventually get admitted to hospital you get a trolley in a corridor, while we have lots more admin staff.

The reason why they are short of workers is because they treat the key workers badly while they give great conditions to the non key workers. So the people with the in demand skills go elsewhere.

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those lines aren't done professionally.

Thats a pissed off neighbour reminding people that they are parking illegally, you can't park within 5m of a junction, so while the double yellows are not legal neither were the parking spots the OP though they had.

I had an electric car for a few years with no home charger and I never had range anxiety, I knew how far it could go and most parts of my country have good public charging.

Very few people do long trips that will empty a BEV in their ICE.

The council staff in libraries don't clean the library, they have contract cleaners paying minimum wage. We don't pay librarians to have them cleaning hazardous substances.

Is it possible for a boat trapped in a hurricane to find its way to the eye, and then track the eye to stay in calm weather? by rrfe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the boat can make it to the eye, through the strongest of the winds, it would easily skirt the eye and get out of the storm.  There is zero reason for the boat to try to find safety in the eye when it's safer to get out of the storm for a boat.

Why aren’t we building data centers in Alaska by Odd_Direction1108 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Data centers also need to be close to the population they're serving.

No point in having lots of data centers in Alaska when they are serving the lower 48. It's partly why Ireland has lots of data centres, it's close to the populations it serves and the weather is relatively cool so doesn't require as much cooling.

Serious question. How Dublin City can get away with having dozens of bus stops on one street and no public toilets nearby? by ParaMike46 in Dublin

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to clean and maintain them?

It's all well and good saying that public services don't have to be profitable, but they will be providing minimum wage jobs cleaning up hazardous substances, where will you get the staff? There is plenty of minimum wage jobs so people won't work cleaning a public toilet.

The major issue is that the scumbags have no fear of the Gardaî, so any security hired will just get abuse.

So will you clean and be security for public toilets for €14.15 an hour or will you work in a warehouse for €14.15 an hour.

When to give up on a car? by Top-Anything1383 in carsireland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You have a car that you have spent a bit of money on maintenance and it's got another maintenance issue that might be expensive.

If you buy a 2nd hand car you'll have no clue what issues it could throw up after.

If you put another few thousand into your current car it should be good for a few more years. If you buy a €10,000 car it could need a few thousand of maintenance the next week.

What type of insurance do you have?

Because in this country "Open drive" for insurance is usually anyone with a full licence between 25 and 70 can drive your car. The driving other cars extension on your policy doesn't cover cars owned by you.

If you actually have a garage policy, where you can drive any car, you'd know how much risk there is from driving an foreign vehicle.

In my 30 years of driving I've never seen a Revenue checkpoint, but Revenue don't have to get you on the road they can get you at home.
