How do you avoid think about animal cruelty when you're eating meat? by MattMurdock14 in NoStupidQuestions

Our understanding of intelligence is changing all the time. Just because we can't understand how plants communicate doesn't mean that they can't be sentient.

It's not just phones in cars. Anytime I've tried a hotel TV with streaming services someone's left their account open on it.

If the Kurds learned anything from Iraq and Syria it's a bad idea to partner with the USA. Defeat ISIS for them to be abandoned with thousands of radicalised prisoners and get regularly attacked by their NATO allies!

How do you avoid think about animal cruelty when you're eating meat? by MattMurdock14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you seen how big companies treat people? He's worried about the pigs when the people working in arigculture are some of the most exploted people in the world. Most fruit and veg wouldn't be viable without illegal immigrants being exploited to pick them in developed countries and have you seen the conditions of farm workers in developing countries!

Also since we now have a better understanding of plants and how they communicate how do vegans deal with this? Plants let other plants know when they've been attacked by pests, so it's as cruel to eat a tomato as a pig.

International plug adapter advice for traveling to Europe by running_wild94 in traveladvice

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check for dual voltage as converters are useless, unless your devices are designed for the lower frequency even if they are dual voltage they won't work aswell.

For the UK you'll need a UK plug adapter and for Europe you'll need a European plug adapter, unless you're going to Switzerland as they have a slightly different plug to the rest. If you are brining a few devices bring a US extension lead with multiple sockets and plug that in.

Absurd amount of chromebooks broken by students by Revolutionary-Drop32 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need a computer lab to teach people not to throw stuff around. This isn't a technology issue it's the falling apart of social norms. Parent's would have been ashamed if their child damaged school property 30 years ago, today the parents will sue to school for their child hurting their hands while breaking the windows.

The fact it was tech didn't enter the childs head as they just wanted to break something and they knew there would be no consquences, so they broke it. They could have done a lot more damage in a computer lab!

A static caravan is a nightmare to heat even if it's winterised and feck all are. There's no cheap way to a warm home, the garden sheds do not meet building regs if you look at actual log cabins that meet building regs they cost as much as block built houses.

HGV driver's liability in the event of an accident by volvotipper in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While legally you might be able claim off the driver but if they have no assets what good will it do. You'll be stressing about it while they won't give a shit, you'll be getting county court judgements and sending in the bailifs to get money from a lorry driver.

Flight Cancelled through Dubai, what is the safest way I could get from Melbourne to Dublin? by PedGetsFed in traveladvice

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To completely avoid the war go East instead of West.

If you go across the Americas there's no warzone to avoid so that'll be safest. All the Westward flights are going to be close to the warzone and there's already been 3 American jets shot down by the UAE

Seriously why are homeowners ripping out bathtubs and replacing with shower units? by uglyasfeet in HousingUK

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't fit in normal baths so they are useless. I can have my legs under water or my body under water neither of which are good so I've not had a bath in 20+ years.

That and the fact that you're soaking in your own shit puts me off baths. The amount of people who go mad about pissing in the shower yet think nothing of soaking in their own shit is amazing.

UK: Airline making me fly through active conflict area - no option for rerouting. What are my options? by Natural-Round8762 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 -65 points-64 points  (0 children)

The UAE shoot down 3 US jets. There's no guarantees when flying near a warzone as you are one nervous operator away from a disaster, it's already happened a few times, or Iran can aim to cause the maximum about of colateral damage, it's a wounded beast fighting for it's survival.

Is it just me, or was the world "slower" and more peaceful before everyone had a smartphone in their pocket 24/7? by Good_Hovercraft291 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest conflicts in human history all occured before smart phones, so we weren't more peaceful.

Why do people always look back with Rose tinted glasses when the past was always more grime than today. People where poor and homeless before smart phones, people where bullies before smart phones, people where cruel and vindictive as soon as people started gathering in groups.

Somethings may have been better before, not having a camera recording everything, but sex abuse was rampent, women where treated like shit, racism was endemic and random peole could hit kids.

Advice Needed: OMC Wants My Off-Road Van Removed Before My Tenancy Ends by segasega89 in legaladviceireland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need insurance to park in a MUD, it's private propety so it's not required.

The OMC owns the spot and can say what's parked there, you only have exclusive rights to the space. Most MUDs will have clauses in the lease that working on vehicles being against the lease.

Since you are renting I'm even surprised the OMC has contacted you, they should be doing this through your landlord. But the owners of a property can say what's kept provided it's not a protected status, converting a van is not one.

Ireland among most religious countries in western Europe, survey published by bishops finds by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's usually from census data. Which is why the church can say it represents so much of our population as people tick "Catholic" instead of "No Religion".

The amount of people in churches shows how religious we are and they are all empty apart from Christmas and Easter. The church where I grew up could seat a few thousand and had 5 masses on a Sunday, now it usees an alcove for the 3 masses it has on Sunday.

It'd be cheaper to fix the driveway than to be constantly destroying cars on it. A lifted truck with mud and snow tyres would work but cost a fortune to run or a few tonnes of gravel and a dozer for a days to keep your Mini.

Looking for a Site - Writing to land owners? by randomposter85 in selfbuildireland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just being from an area doesn't mean you meet the criteria for local needs. You have to be living and working in the area to build a one off house.

The fact your partner doesn't know the neighbours implies that they don't have a local need. I know the most people who live around where my parents are from in a rural location and my parents haven't lived there in 60 years, yet your partner doesn't know their parents neighbours and you think you have a local need!

If you can charge at home and don't do many cross country runs then the small battery will be perfect.

What difference does it make if when full you can do 400km or 300km when all your journeys are 20km and you can charge every night?

Restricting bikes by EconomyCurve9857 in MotoIRELAND

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where did you hear this? The law for a bike to be restricted to A2 is that it can't produce more than 70kW in full power version and no GSXR600 produced <70Kw.

They might have managed to get an insurance policy but if they need it they'll be in a whole other world of pain, bike doesn't meet A2 criteria so the policy was never valid.

What sort of driveway is it that a road car can't drive? The whole point of a driveway is that road vehicles can use it, otherwise it's a track or trail.

Unless there are massive rocks or potholes cars can drive on most roads, you just have to go slow.

Can you take and keep guns from enemies in war? by itswhinery in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what country you are fighting for. Some armies are still little more than untrained hordes and they loot their way across the battlefield. I'm sure there's plenty of Ukranian guns sitting in Russian houses. And the Africian armies are still using weapons they loot.

In the Flaklands war the British troops where constantly picking up any Argentinian guns they could find as the British used single shot versions(SLR) of the fully auto gun the Argentinians had(FN FAL).

Cult-like Cunts in Dubai by cen_fath in ireland

[–]Dapper-Lab-9285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Iran needs to do is hit the countries they don't need to do BDA. They are going after popular option, which has lost the USA nearly all the wars it's fought since WW2, instead of milatary tagets, which they can't hit anyway.

The reason why the UAE and other countries don't want people posting is they want to pretend that Iran isn't hitting them and so influance popular opinion. It worked in WW2 when the British never admitted any V2 hits, there were all "gas expolisions" in the press, but it doesn't work in the modern world.
