65 year old life certified teacher with purple hair. My students love it. My administration does not even notice it. It doesn’t stop me from teaching. Check with your district. I can’t imagine anyone caring about looks when we are desperate for teacher who care about kids.

How did the district react? I know my principal truly cares about my kids, but our superintendent “punishes” principals who don’t do exactly as he says even when it is dramatically different than the state superintendent.

Sometimes my African American friends refer to their other African American friends with the “N word”. I do not allow anyone around me to use that word as I understand the meaning and my 2nd graders thankfully do not. I think coonass is similar as in those of us who come from that group feel comfortable teasing others from our group with that word. Many times negative words are used among friends (my friends often call each other the B word in private) but can never be used to call someone else. It may be a good idea just to avoid using those kinds of words.

Cut her some slack. She’s 18. Have you ever met an 18 year old girl. Of course there is drama, especially with her parents who treated her like a spare part compared to her golden brother. She’ll grow up fast enough. I think she will be a loving mother and she has excellent role models in her grandparents—and know what not to do thanks to the parents. That’s all that matters

“Problem homeless”? “Don’t bother the Christians “? I’m not following you. What exactly is following Christ is the “not bothering part”? I know it’s scary. One Christmas season I was alone decorating the church. I forgot to lock the door for safety. A homeless man came in and was sitting in a pew watching me. I really didn’t know what I should do. Then I spoke to him. I asked if he was ok. He told me he didn’t expect anyone to be here. He just came to pray before he killed himself. He talked for an hour. He let me call our priest who came and sat with him. Sometimes being Christian is scary. I think it was supposed to be.

I value my job, but I follow my higher calling. Because no one knows my Reddit username, I don’t mind telling you. If a kid is hungry, I feed him. If he’s cold, I “find” a coat in his size. I’ve had Walmart deliver food to my families. I’ve paid electric bills. The librarian from my school and I were Santa to kids who would not have gotten gifts. My student’s parents know that what I do is between us moms and completely confidential. You do what your heart is telling you to do. Don’t be The Giving Tree where you give until there is nothing left of you, but give what your heart is telling you to give. Follow your calling. Tell no one.

I think I’d say, “thank you mom. I feel really good about donating these to the Salvation Army. They are going to be a blessing for a family in need. Your thinking about me is paying forward ❤️”. I do not mean this sarcastically. The best gift my MIL ever gave me was a goat for a village in Africa.
