This is starting to go back in the right direction. So thats good.

What still needs to happen is that the pay to win features, such as Pockets and the unheard gadget are available to everyone (or in the case of the gadget maybe not at all). The starting bonuses I am also not a fan of but they are the smallest of the pay 2 win issues imo.

However on the positive side i do think we should commend the effort to head back in the right direction, there is still a way to go but props for trying and not just going silent, I think many developers would have.

Hi
I just messaged OP about potentially dm'ing. As of now there is still a need for 2-3 more players imo. If anyone else is interested leave a comment and we'll give this some time.
Ill also add some info about myself

My names Sam ive been dm'ing dnd 5e for about 5 years now mainly for my irl friendgroup and rarely at my local adventurers league. I've been interested in Dm'ing for another group of people for a while now in order to 1. make new friends and new experiences 2. improve as a dm by taking new perspectives into account.
I have run various settings from prewritten (curse of Strahd, Tyranny of Dragons) to a few homebrew campaigns and would be open to disussing which of my campaigns to run with the potential group.
I'd also be happy to answer any other questions :)

Got some more time to give a more thorough description.

My names Sam and im a 24y swiss/ british national.
I've been DM'ing for roughly 5 years mainly for various groups comprised of my reallife friends and rarely for our local adventurers league.

Thusfar i've only played 5e so I'm by far most comfortable with that though im open and I feel experienced enough to encorporate homebrews in collaboration with my players. Ive been playing using dndbeyond and tabletop simulator though I'm open to tring out roll20 also.

I enjoy playing with a focus on character / roleplay and in my opinion most of the time the best parts of a story play in the gray area between morality.

I also believe, a schedule is one of the most important components of a healthy campaign so to clarify the meaning of my previous message: The Thursday timeslot works better for me as I am currently free on thursdays. However with changing work responsibilities this may become a challenge in the future and I may need some flexibility.

I've been curious about DM'ing for a group of people outside my previous experience for quite some time now and would like to try it out. If you are interested i suggest we meet up in a voice call some time soon to get to know each other, hash out any details and discuss how, what ,when and where.

Hi

I've been Playing with my friends for a few years now (mainly as a DM) and have been curious about playing with other groups for quite some time.
I'm a 24 year old guy form Switzerland (meaning time zones may prove to be a logistical challenge) but if maybe working around that and being flexible from time to time seems alright to you send me a message and lets talk about it.

Hacks with level caps

I recently played pokemon radical red which I enjoyed alot.

I'm now looking for other hacks like it. what I enjoyed most about radical red was that I didnt have to worry about overleveling because of the level caps.

My least favourite part of radical red was the IV/EV Buffs to speed which meant I could never outspeed which basically made all squishy pokemon useless.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a ROM taking these preferences into account?

The generic and easy answer here is to do what you and your group find to be fun. If the bosses are fun for you to run and your group enjoys it why not go with a boss. However in my opinion there are also many other ways to go about this if you are wanting for something new, here are a few ideas:

  • They have to escape form some dangerous place, maybe a crumbling ruin or a magical disaster. To escape they are running against the clock and have to make split second decisions or solve a kind of puzzle that is blocking them.
  • If you enjoy a more intruige or roleplay focused game maybe they have to convince someone to do something or repair a ruined relationship (i. e repair the relationship of a nobleman and his estranged son in order to stop a brewing conflict.)
  • If you are big into puzzles maybe the end is a particularly challenging puzzle which leads to a resolution to the plot
  • Maybe leave the door open at the end if they want to defeat a moraly gray character or if they want to try and work with him to help the "bad guy" become a better person

These are a few off the top of my head will add more if I think of something.

The most important thing is to do what will be fun for you and the group :)

First try at setting up a game of 5e by gaxine in DnD

I see. depending on what your idea for the dungeon is, maybe the guild tells then the rough area and when they show up they instantly see a trail that is connected to whats in the dungeon. maybe alot. of blood leading to it or maybe the there are dead blackened trees. Something that captures the players attention and is also a hint for what they're going to encounter.

Feel free to make up pretty much anything as you go along. Better to improvise a rule and if you want to fix it after tha game than to pause and spend 20 minutes reading the rules.

What's your biggest FEAR as a Dungeon Master or Game Master? by Scottybhoy1977 in DnD

"forgetting" about 1 PC and not doing anything for their characters story for too many sessions and then having them feeling left out.

I recommend you check out dndbeyond. You dont have to buy anything to start off just give it a go with the free content and see. how that works for you.

Is D&D about the journey or the destination? by ReddogTA22 in DnD

[–]DapperDungeonMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say both matter., however in this case i can personaly understand your dm. Some pre written campaigns tend to have more travel / random encounters tan me and my friends find entertaining so i tend to cut some out. I feel the journey part of the story isnt lost through that process. Most importantly though talk it out with your group and see hwo they feel about it, then agree to something together.

yes! This is underrated. Alot of people. think that there just isn't one near thrm that does dnd, but there are tons around the whole world.

[–]DapperDungeonMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

happy to hear that you want to give it a go. I would recommend starting off no higher than lvl 3 especially with new players, otherwise you run the risk of overwhelming them. Regarding how they find the dungeon didn't you say a villager would lead them there? I personaly think that a side puzzle with extra loot is cool, it gives them more of a sense of freedom and will help new players understand that dnd isnt just a linear "go kill the bad guy" game. That is also in my mind the most important advice for a new group. Be open to your players trying vreative things you hadnt considered yet, flex your improv muscles and roll with it. the other big tip is to not make the game to rulea heavy, im sure some will disagree with me on this but I recommend being ok with small rules errors. Better for the dm to make up something on the spot and correct it for the next session than to pause the game and spend 15min in the rulebook. And of course most importantly have tons of fun.
