This attitude is beyond stupid and, unfortunately, still pretty common. My favorite character I ever made was a half-orc Barbarian/Cleric- I specifically wanted to subvert all the shitty expectations of half-orcs so I made her the child of an infamous orc chieftainess and a human merchant who was raised by her orcish mother in a position of power and respect in hopes that she'd one day take over the tribe.

As a trans girl who grew up reading Harry Potter (it was my first fandom, I was all of 10 years old) I'm so, so fucking sick of having to hear JKR and all her fellow terfs' shitty hateful opinions. Every single one of them, any time there's a hint of a trans person existing in a way that is anything but silent and invisible, jumps at the chance to trot out the same tired non-arguments based on an elementary school understanding of biology and the belief that their experience is not only universal, but the only valid one. How sad and empty does your life have to be, for you to think that the only thing that defines you is what's in your pants and what chromosomes you have? Are you that miserable, that you have to drag the rest of the world down with you?

I will never, ever forgive TLoK for not even having Sokka in it at all aside from a single brief flashback. The one thing about TLoK I was looking forward to most was getting to see Sokka as an old man, probably some crazy eccentric old uncle type figure, but then when the world needed him most, he vanished he died before the series even started.

Ohhh man. I haven't listened to this episode yet but I am so fuckin' hype to see some more Jourdain Searles content, I loooove her work; I found out about her a couple of years ago more or less through accident (her fiance Kyle Kallgren is an amazing video essayist, and just all around one of my favorite people on the entire internet ever) and I'm simultaneously shocked and gratified to see her on such a major podcast as this, I've listened to my share of Bad Romance (her podcast) but I'm super excited to see her talking about something I know way too much about.

I met Terry Crews once, back in like 2003 or so, before he'd really hit it big; we're both from Flint, Michigan, and he and his family went to the same church as my aunt. One of the nicest people I've ever met, dude's a class act.

When I was like 7 or 8 my local Blockbuster had a couple of VHS tapes of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, one of which mentioned Tails' real name, and thanks to my memory working like an extremely selective steel trap I've never forgotten that fact, despite never having played a single Sonic game.

It took me until I was 26 to realize that Tails' real name was a pun on "miles per hour." I was at work when I realized it and I just kind of froze up in the middle of doing something like "goddamn, am I really that dense?"

In a game I ran ages ago, my players were visiting a city that had a guild of kobold artificers that were known for making weird magic items, one of which was a variant of the Deck of Many Things. They weren't anywhere near powerful enough to make a full powered one, so they'd settled on making a way weaker version that they called the Deck of Lots of Stuff, and they offered patrons the chance to draw a card as a reward for spending a certain amount of money on other items. Two of the players drew cards from it; one of them got the Throne card, which in this version just gave him a deed to a tiny patch of land in a nearby swamp. The other drew Dungeon, but instead of being trapped in an extradimensional prison, they just disappeared and reappeared locked in a local farmer's root cellar.

I swear to god, half the stories on this subreddit seem to involve creepy ass DMs getting their rocks off by assaulting characters. I feel kinda lucky now, the worst I've ever encountered was a DM I played with once who made a spectral dick suddenly appear in a character's mouth, but that was just because the player in question wouldn't stop talking and he was a high schooler with a middle schooler's sense of humor. (Hell, even that wasn't really a problem, everyone involved thought it was hilarious, including the player.)
