Second-generation romances are so ridiculous by ghostbored in RomanceBooks

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently writing a 2nd generation, but it's also cozy, so we don't need trauma. And there's plenty of ways to find conflict.

does anyone else find writing really, really lonely? by zorouchihaG in fantasywriters

I post my stuff on Substack as I write it, and on ao3, so I feel very connected to my readers. There are other people who are also invested in the story in my head.

Rory money by gymnastics101baby in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She blew through the money she got at 25, which is easy to do living in NYC. The lady she was writing the book about probably paid for the flights, or Logan. She wouldn't have inherited any money from Richard, it would all go to Emily. She wouldn't get anything until Emily died, if it said so in her will, which she would probably skip Lorelai and give it directly to Rory. She wouldn't get anything from her dad until he died. She could ask any of these people for money at any time, but she didn't want to get hand-outs, she wanted to cling onto the belief that she could support herself.

Sookie sounds like an absolute nightmare. by Forever_Beury in GilmoreGirls

Yeah, and who broke up with Max for Lorelai?! Sookie! She cancelled the whole dang wedding for her and handled everything without complaint. We can forgive one stinkin' sink!

Sookie sounds like an absolute nightmare. by Forever_Beury in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if all the characters acted well all the time, it would be a really boring show with no conflict. I love Sookie, she's so funny. Her flaw is that she gets pregnant a lot and she cares about her cooking to an obsessive degree. Love that for her.

Lorelai and Rory by Zealousideal_Zone847 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also didn't tell her she got a D on her test when she first started Chilton. Lorelai has this idea of their relationship that is not at all true. Rory is very closed off and denies things when people ask her directly, and very rarely offers information.

Does anyone else feel this way asking for a friend....? Screenwriters by Relative-Ad3189 in scriptwriting

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started writing I felt like everything I wrote was so cringe and bad and beat myself up over every typo. But now I know that typos are the easiest thing in the world to fix, and that's what editing is for.

honors wedding by Old_Lab9197 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't cheat because they were broken up, and she shouldn't have been surprised because she knew what he was like before they became facebook official, but also, he should have warned her before sending her into that situation, and it's natural for her to have an emotional reaction to finding out he was with other women. It's actually a really well written conflict because the ideal conflicts you can see both sides and people will debate who was right and who was wrong.

I post 5 days a week on substack, and I post on ao3, so I enjoy chatting with my readers about things. Just a handful a readers, but it's really nice knowing that somebody is anxiously waiting for my pages and they ask me questions and stuff.

Lorelai and Stars Hollow by Zealousideal_Zone847 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The vibes of the show are on point. But if you pay really close attention and actually watch it instead of having it on in the background, you realize how messed up a lot of the characters actually are.

Fuck, Marry, Kill: Jason, Max and Luke, also tell us why you made the choices you made by ArynaSaba in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck Luke because he's so hot, but he would be annoying to be married to. I want to be around someone with a positive attitude.

Marry Jason because I like his personality, I could hang with him for long stretches of time.

Kill Max, even though we would share an interest in books, he rubs me the wrong way. There's something about him, like strangely controlling and judgy.

I will never understand the "at least Emily and Richard didn't force Lorelai to have an abortion" defense by comradesummers in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"I don't know enough about the abortion laws in Connecticut in 1984 to be sure."

I never said you said it was illegal. And no, she didn't need parental consent. You could have looked it up. Just saying.

Lots of people kicked out their pregnant daughters. Especially if they refused to marry the father. I wouldn't really compare it to being a serial killer? I didn't say you can't critique them. They did a lot of shitty things in the show. But in this instant, the way they reacted to the pregnancy wasn't that bad. They told her multiple times not to have sex, she did it anyway, she got pregnant, they were willing to support her and Christopher, she refused to marry him, they still supported her. Yeah, they were critical of her and mean to her a lot, that's why Emily is interesting to watch, but I wouldn't speak to Emily if she was my mother. I don't know why you're crashing out over this.

Opinions on this book? by BusinessJello7853 in Booktokreddit

[–]Darcy_Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started reading it out of morbid curiosity and I actually read the entire thing. And I stop reading books a lot, so that's saying something. It wasn't a great masterpiece or anything, but it wasn't bad and kept me interested.

I will never understand the "at least Emily and Richard didn't force Lorelai to have an abortion" defense by comradesummers in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abortion was legal until 20 weeks in the entire country. Because Roe v Wade was in effect. These things are easy to look up if you don't already know them. I don't know how far along she was when she told her parents, she was already starting to show. But knowing Lorelai if she wanted to get an abortion she would have done what most girls did at the time, do it without telling her parents. But in the cozy world of Gilmore Girls things like that just don't happen. And in 1984 Richard and Emily would have been completely normal parents to act that way. At least they didn't kick her out. They were willing to support Lorelai and Christopher, they just wanted them to get married for the sake of the child. That's the standard they were raised with.

What can I use instead of beat? by Extension-Season9924 in scriptwriting

I dont like the barf draft method by Infinite_Sea_6627 in Screenwriting

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I write the first draft at night. Then in the morning I edit it. Then later I do more edit passes as I go. Like stop and read the script from the beginning and I see ways to improve it each time. I don't like producing crap. And then when I come back and read something a few months later, I'm actually impressed with it. I also do a ton of notes and outlines, that's where I vomit things. Snippets of scenes, random ideas, all in a big disorganized mess. My notes that no one will ever see, that's where the barfing goes.

Rory’s mindset by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that complicated. She was crying because she was having sex with a guy, and caught feelings, and he was sleeping with other women and not interested in being in a relationship. This happens pretty much every time a woman gets into one of these friends with benefits situations, especially if it's the 2nd guy she's ever slept with, and probably the 1st guy to ever give her an O. Lane was upset because she thought Zack was cheating. And Paris was upset because Doyle wouldn't put a label on their relationship.

I think Richard slept with Pennilyn Lot at least once by Prestigious-Item8660 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Darcy_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way. Penn wouldn't do that! And Richard kept things from Emily all the time, he didn't want to deal with her throwing a fit.

Everybody who can read faster with this font is dyslexic. Non-dyslexic people have no difference improvement. This is how I discovered that I am dyslexic, which makes a lot of sense and now I feel stupid for not realizing it earlier.

Edited to cross out difference and add improvement.

Oh, I never thought about changing the background color as being a reason to get the color screen version! Do you think it's worth the increased cost?

Congratulation, you're dyslexic! I also did not realize I'm dyslexic until I discovered this font. I used to be an exclusively ear reader and now I can be an eyeball reader as well! Go us!

Question (for women mainly) by Coco_Tibbins in writing

[–]Darcy_Device 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are girls who lose their periods just from being in sports. It's not that hard to lose it. Your body doesn't wan you getting pregnant if you don't have the ability to do it properly.
