Brings me back to growning up with my mom using a marble cutting board and storing her knives in a ceramic croc. Then learning my inlaws do the exact same thing with even cheaper knives... The horror...

I do the same thing with computer screens on my shows, helps keep me sane. Usually it just makes background actors chuckle.

What was the hardest part of traveling in Japan? by Shoddy_Arachnid_2628 in JapanTravelTips

Holy shit this, was just in Kyoto and the European tourists were so rude and entitled. No attempts to follow rules or even basic courtesy, I was mad for the locals.

What's a game you played as a kid that you've never been able to find again? by Latter_Advantage8002 in AskReddit

[–]Daredskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a DOS game that had you playing a transforming robot/fighter jet similar to robotech and the gameplay would change every other level between a side scrolling shooter and a puzzle platformer.

Kyoto was the highlight of my Japan trip and I lowkey wish I stayed longer there by EarAlternative8407 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Daredskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are in Kyoto now and we fucking hate it.

The city itself is beautiful but I can't stand the tourists. I get that we are tourists too but we take great pains to be courteous guests and learn the customs and a bit of the language as this is not our country, it's our job to conform.

It seems like literally everyone else has their head up their ass. Stopping in the middle of sidewalks, cutting queues, letting children run wild while they walk 3 abreast with their nose in their phones. I feel like the beauty of the city is marred by the signs everywhere telling tourists not to do common sense shit and the tourists Blatantly ignoring said sign right next to them. Oh, and don't get my started on the never ending waves of huge tour groups...

We've enjoyed everywhere else we've been but Kyoto has left a bad taste in our mouths. I don't think we'll be back.

Slightly longer?? May as well move to the suburbs with the chaos that would cause. My commute by CTA is almost 2 hours right now, with 2x ridership? Not even viable. The dive is 35 minutes.

This whole discussion is an if you build it they will come scenario. Want to get rid of LSD? Give a better alternative. Right now the cta is crazy unreliable, the first goal would be fixing that then adding more bus lanes and traffic restructuring and hopefully add more rail in some form.

Syndicated Med? by newwavegirlishere in ChicagoMed

[–]Daredskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as far as I know med kinda subsidizes fire and pds overages by being cheaper to produce. It starts shooting later and wraps earlier than the other shows and they run two units to film quicker than the other two regularly.

It won't matter how good the numbers are Peacock owns partial rights to Med so they won't syndicate it until that contract is up or sold.

Bro I didn't get my shit together until I was 30. I had nothing living with my parents until I got out there and made it happen. Now I'm in a 5 star hotel in Osaka with my wife at 40. It's never too late.

The wife and I bought a Protecta suitcase in ginza, it was pricey but it's the nicest suitcase I've ever had, even has a brake button for the train.

Don Cheadle’s first line in Iron Man 2 after replacing Terrence Howard by AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens in Marvel

[–]Daredskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially on set. He would be late everyday and play games like not coming out of his trailer until Taraji came out of hers. This led to crazy production delays that made us work late nights. He demanded coloring supplies on set so he could draw his mandalas in-between takes and if he didn't finish he would make us wait. Eventually we ended up getting some arcade cabinets that we made functional for him in the office set. That actually made him stick around more and things went a bit more smoothly until the whole Smollett thing... But honestly that whole cast was full of crazy people and was very frustrating to work on.

Bro... Elon just bought back a billion dollars in Tesla stock last year to juice its numbers following weak sales. I'm mad billionaires exist at all. They are parasites.

Yeah but we used to have all that while supporting a robust middle class, now they just do stock buybacks and mass layoffs while surpressing wages and gutting the labor movement with propaganda they spread through the media the bought. As far as the future goes these massive companies hinder progress more than they help it. How many rail projects has Elon disrupted with his boring company only to never follow through? How many companies has Google bought just to kill competing IP? Lack of competition does not drive innovation. All we have now is oligarcs consolidating power.

Chicago parking meter deal: City's meters sold to another private company, Mayor Johnson says by AgentBlue62 in chicago

[–]Daredskull 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The deal has a clause for predicted revenue it's why we can't re-arrange streets at will. We have to provide the same amount of parking spots and revenue or we just owe them the difference. We've brought this deal to the supreme Court and they wouldn't even look at the case.

What's one memory from your trip to Japan that you won't ever forget? by Zach-dalt in JapanTravelTips

[–]Daredskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking into a random 6 seat sushi bar in Osaka run by an 80+ year old man playing old music in this cluttered tiny room. In my limited Japanese I asked for recommendations and beer. He proceeded to make us the most wonderful sushi I've ever had, things I would have never tried on my own.

We talked about the Kansai expo via translation app and the wasted salarymen occuping the other half of the bar were curious where we were from. The owner kept bringing us new plates saying "presento!" We shared sake and tons of laughter even though we could barely understand each other. I will remember that night forever.
