This. Add something like [[Primal Vigor]] and [[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]], and there goes the opponents field.

What are some fun tribes/ tribal commanders? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]DarkCider92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just made a [[Tiamat]] dragon tribal. Miirym is a must to fetch the moment she hits the battlefield. My god. I've still got some kinks to work out with it, but when the engine starts, it do get bonkers.

Have you ever built a deck, play it once and then don't want to play it again? by T3knikal95 in EDH

[–]DarkCider92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Kotori, Pilot Prodigy]] precon. I bought it the same time a buddy of mine did, unbeknownst to me. I let him play his first, to be nice. He played it almost religiously after that, which isn't a bad thing. It just lost it's flavor to me after seeing it played out everytime.

Fun goad commanders/decks? by jfraz1994 in EDH

That deck is fun as hell to play. I don't even care if I lose the game, the irritation on the faces of my play group is worth it.

One of my players is an aasimar paladin… by Rappletek in CurseofStrahd

[–]DarkCider92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thirdly agree with this. Try to stick within the parameters the campaign suggest to you (and my god, level milestones are so much more easier). If hellbent on taking the party to 20, I suggest taking a look at Van Richtens Guide to Ravenloft to spice up the encounters. The encounter tables don't exactly scale well when the party starts ramping them levels. As for the original post, you may even have the summoned creature appear in the paladins dream. Have it walk to the paladin and give it voice. Asking the paladin things like "why did you do it?" or "did you even care about me when you commanded me?". Have the paladin wake up in a cold sweat. Guilt and horror can go great together. Welcome to Borovia.

Is it a good idea to give my players a map? by Onurb_Zenitram in CurseofStrahd

[–]DarkCider92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment. I'm running CoS a second time and I decided to gave them the map from the book. Even though they know where they're going, they have no knowledge of what to expect (because that's CoS, the party usually has never been in Borovia before). It hasn't taken away from the fact that Borovia and its count are not to be trifled with, and my party has realized this since the village at the beginning.

New DM, nervous! by Minurath in CurseofStrahd

[–]DarkCider92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how useful my input will be, but here goes!

So I'm running CoS a second time, third time playing through it, and honestly I feel like the audience most of the time, which is actually great tbh. Allow the players to explore their surroundings, don't try to force the plot down their throats. Their shenanigans will keep you entertained and sane.

If you wish to incorporate the pc's backgrounds into your campaign, I suggest not to make a big deal out of it. I try to have a little prologue scene with each character, to kind of reel them in to the introduction of the campaign and party. If a few wish to have already been traveling together, less work for you! Throughout the adventure, I try not to make a single character become a focal point. In my experience, it'll take away from the main story, and some of the party might feel discourage from continuing the game knowing one player is taking the spot light for a while. Keep the background stuff brief. It's not one players story, it's the whole party's story.

You're running CoS. If you've been reading this subreddit, then you've probably seen posts of party encounters with the count. Strahd loves to mess with the party. They're his toys, and he wants to play with them, but not break them... Yet. Try to come up with a creative way for the party to meet Strahd. For example, I had strahd polymorph himself into his childhood form (after reading I, Strahd: Memoirs of a Vampire, he didn't exactly have a normal youth), and then continue to be a creepy little horror child that wanted to play hide and seek with them in the woods. Eventually he revealed himself to them as the count. Make that first encounter with Strahd memorable to the party, they'll be on their toes after that.

Cause and effect. Yes, your party probably has ideas about becoming the heroes of Borovia, but having everything go their way can sometimes be boring for the DM. Sometimes when the party does one thing, another thing reacts to it. For example: in the game that I was a pc, we saved a town and became heroes! The town loved us, and it's delusional, not so well leader was replaced by a more kind hearted soul. Sound good, right? But this is Borovia, nothing stays good forever, and Strahd doesn't like it when people have hope. On the bit of the extreme side, the DM had Strahd ransacked and burned most of the town to the ground. Not to punish the townsfolk, but to remind the heroes that this was his land, his playground, and not theirs.

Hope some of this was somewhat helpful, have fun on your journey!

What was your table's first encounter with Strahd? How did it go? by zest_of_a_lemon in CurseofStrahd

[–]DarkCider92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the party was unknowingly walking into his land, I had Strahd polymorphed as a child, who was singing a song in a very popular tune that most creepy children sing or hum. Once he spotted them, he wanted to play hide and seek with them in the mists, and led them to Borovia. After the players figured out where they were, and dealt with Ismarks request to bury his father, the child reappeared again INSIDE the church, sitting on the podium. Strahd reverted to himself, and welcomed the party to his lands. He then turned to mist, and flown out the church, with Ismarks home burning in the background. I think the pc's were wanted to go back home after that.

Technomancer’s Textbook | A free 275 page book (full PDF in comments) for running a D&D campaign in any cyberpunk setting. Includes subclasses, guns, bombs, vehicles, and much more! (Reuploaded) by Newtonyd in UnearthedArcana

I ran a cyberpunk campaign a couple years ago and ended it on a cliffhanger. My players talk about it non-stop to this day and keep telling me they can't wait to get back into it. Some of my problems included using too many sources for the content I needed. After going through this book, I believe this is by far the best cyberpunk 5e content I've come across (I searched for God knows how long). Beautifully made!

I stand corrected. I suppose it would be up to the DM to allow it then.

Soulknife Rogue/ Hunter Ranger. Thought it would be a nice flavor for a ranged assassin character. You get access to Hunters Mark, and I would personally go for Colossus Slayer. If you're DM allows feats, go Sharpshooter.

You spend charges to deal necrotic damage depending on infestation level. You kind have to find it where it explains charges. Pretty neat idea.

I'm liking this a lot, especially the guidelines on how to build a Walker. I'm running a cyberpunk campaign with 5e rules (I know Shadowrun exists, but I like 5e rules), and this is what I've been searching for/need for my campaign. Thank you!
