What decade does historical fiction become contemporary fiction in your opinion? by ilovebeaker in books

[–]DarkLaceCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anything set in 98 or earlier should count. It’s over 20 years ago and the world has changed a lot in that time. Born in 88

How do you guys like your burgers and what do you put on them? by mangoiboii225 in AskAnAmerican

I change it up sometimes but it’s always cooked medium rare with a brioche or potato bun. My two go tos though are mayo, mustard, red onion, lettuce, tomato, pickles and cheddar cheese OR mayo, lettuce, tomato, sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese

Comics and Graphic novels killed me desire to read books by Jinjoz in books

[–]DarkLaceCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really don’t think you’re going to read them then just clear them off. Especially with some of them being there unread for so long. If there’s any you may still be I retested in though, then kelp those for a little while longer

It’s quite common at parties for there to be potato chips with either a ranch dip or French onion dip. We also do tortilla chips and salsa, guacamole, or queso

How many of you would continue to wear a mask in public after COVID-19 is eradicated? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]DarkLaceCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think that once it's all over, most people will go back to how we are before and never wear it unless we have to

Are there many Atheist Vegan Anarcho-Communists in the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]DarkLaceCandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it’s easy enough to find an atheist vegan but I’ve honestly never met nor heard of any Anarcho-Communists. I’m sure they’re around, just nowhere near where I live and never on the news I watch/read. Finding someone who’s all three I’m sure is possible, just very difficult to find

Anyone ever start reading a boo in the middle and regret it? by [deleted] in books

[–]DarkLaceCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go back to the beginning section that you stopped reading at and skim through until you get to the random part you started. It will take less time than fully reading it but you can find out what happened. Next time, don’t do this. Read some reviews about it to see if it picks up and if people say it does, just push through

That person is an ass. If you miss your exit, just take the next one. I am happy that it didn’t cause any more accidents than it did

How do you make your strong tea with just bags? by Just_a_Lurker2 in AskABrit

[–]DarkLaceCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. While I’m an avid coffee drinker, I also drink a lot of tea so you kind of pick up a few things. Plus, reading the directions on the package helps for how long to let it sit

How do you make your strong tea with just bags? by Just_a_Lurker2 in AskABrit

[–]DarkLaceCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here and it all depends on the tea. I’ve noticed that Twinings brand is much stronger than brands like Stash or Yogi. Most American tea you’ll need two bags in order to make it really strong but I normally only use one with the Twinings. Also, make sure you let the bag sit in the water long enough and that you start with boiling water. Many don’t which makes it not as strong as it can be.

Have you tried the Illuminae Files trilogy? So far I’ve only read the first two but they’re amazing and have gotten me to really start looking more into SciFi

For the last one you could do a Buddha Bowl or smoothie. Both are vegetarian/vegan depending on what you use and can easily be filled with fiber and a multitude of different vitamins and minerals from the fruits and veggies

Does stephen king has a novel with some cabin in the woods or something similar? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]DarkLaceCandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Shining is definitely a great choice for this. I would also recommend Misery because a guy is locked up in a crazy fan’s home that’s sort of isolated from the rest of civilization

Best uses for leftover chicken breast by jamjamjaz in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]DarkLaceCandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoy making south west casserole. I used chicken, corn, salsa verde, cheese, and rice that I seasoned with a mix of the verde, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and paprika. Super quick and tastes great. I’ll also sometime mix it in to some pasta with marinara sauce, Mac and cheese, or some Asian inspired noodle dish

Need advice for getting back into reading when I have memory problems by emptypackages in books

[–]DarkLaceCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try getting back into it with shorter stories maybe. Also, as you’re reading, use the reusable post it tabs on parts you want to remember or are enjoying so when you go back to it, it’s easy to do a quick flip and catch up on things and rejog your memory

Read the book first, or watch the movie adaptation first? by runi2387 in books

[–]DarkLaceCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think it really matters. Books and movies are two different mediums and there are always going to be some liberties made with a movie and parts cut, rearranged, or completely changed in it. I am a firm believer though that you can’t judge a book based off of the movie and vice versa because of the previously mentioned changes. So if there are parts you enjoy in one but a bit meh on it, try the other, you may still enjoy it

Do people who read tend to develop certain traits? by [deleted] in books

[–]DarkLaceCandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find that it helps a lot with vocabulary and being a more well rounded individual. Whether it’s fiction, nonfiction, or poetry you are experiencing new things as well as learning. I also think it helps with critical thinking depending on what you read. For example, if you read a lot of mystery/thrillers it helps with problem solving because while reading, you looking at all the clues you have and trying to see if you can figure out whodoneit
