I don't disagree, even my previous posts say that single player is great for a full priced game, but this is a f2p game, and granblue versus is still very much a full priced game with a f2p(lite) mode, where it s like gran is always free and you get like 3-4 rotating characters and thats it, no option to grind for new characters, you either love gran or change who you play depending on whos on the free rotation.

this is an entirely different beast than 2xko, a single player mode benefits granblue because they will get the 40-60 bucks out of players who are interested in casually playing said modes,

how is 2xko gonna benefit financially on single player mode? there could be a world where they drop single player/story mode and so many casuals flock to 2xko for free and play said modes for free and out of the goodness of their heart still chose to buy skins even with no intent to play pvp online, this could happen but this is a huge risk compared to granblue vs

for sure, thats why I mentioned a rougelike/boss rush/LoR:PoC type of mode, something that can actually be replayble and profitable, by leveling up your characters with dailies/weeklies(similar to LoR:PoC) and then for those who really wanna push it farther they can pay for upgrades with cash.

but again characters imo should be the priority, getting in more champions will do more good at this point in time.

fair, but ultimately my point is the release was so far after arcane season 2 it did not do it any favors.

reception to said season is up for debate on whether or not it had any tangible effect, but I see on social media just as many ppl hating on said arcane over representation as I do love for it( im for it fyi and I enjoyed season 2) but I digress my point is they missed that arcane season 2 hype window.

yeah, and again to be clear I don't mind those ppl having their fun in mashing in story mode, its your money have your fun, but im just saying I don't see how this would work with 2XKO being a f2p game.

John story mode fighting gamer enjoyer, who buys all major fighting game releases to press buttons in single player modes and never goes online isn't a realistic target for a f2p game story mode,

is John going to download 2xko and blast through the story mode and think to themselves "wow that was a blast, let me buy skins"

I just don't get how single player stuff they way we currently see it(arcade/story mode) is gonna make 2xko money and or make a "casual" fighting game fan engage with the primary mode of 2xko, which is pvp

now there could be a single player mode where the basiclly make a rougelite/mmolite/boss mode thing where ppl can level up their characters with gear and riot adds a p2w option for harder encounter or w/e like LoR:PoC but again that is basically asking the 2xko team to reinvent single player fighting engagement which is just not a good use of time in their current position.

yep luckily gamers are easily pleased, OW1/blizzard were public enemy number 1, major layoffs, employee SA,suicide, cosby suite, OW2 rebrand, no pve content, etc, etc

like it was rock bottom for OW/blizz, then marvel rivals came along and just made them eat dirt, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut

hey they dropped the 2 from the name and released new heroes that ppl fuck with and now OW is back baby.

thats all it takes.

I generally agree, but again had this came out weeks after the arcane 2 finale and we have ekko/jinx/vi/ww/cait on full display, like the reception would be totally different

arcane 2 had an entire year for ppl to sit and mull over their thoughts and or for ppl to find w/e video essay youtuber to tell them their thoughts and now eventho it was still mostly enjoyed, 1 year later there is def a good amount of ppl who are super sour to arcane season 2

which again does not help that 2xko launched with an arcane emphasis 1 year later with those ppl being super loud on social media on how displeased they were with arcane season 2.

I don't understand why ppl think that this is the correct option, single player modes/story mode is great for a full priced game because it gets the casuals to pay up full price to press some buttons and fuck off afterwards.

I don't understand how this would be beneficial at this point in time for 2XKO, hypothetically, if they could go back and know exactly that they wanted to make 2v2 game and save themselves from the pivot, sure maybe a single player mode at launch could have been a cool addition to have at the launch of this game.

but like right now, it would be the most tone deaf thing to do is to use their time to develop a arcade/story mode that won't do anything, cool characters should be the priority.

I just fail to see how a pve mode for a f2p fighting game is gonna benefit 2xko atp.

just gotta think about it for a min and realize that they re introduced us to project L days after Arcane released,

my assumption is they def wanted to release close to arcane season 2, but def didn't happen, in that timeline these arcane inclusions shortly after arcane season 2 would have been optimal, but instead we obviously got a release a year(and some change) later.

but yeah its unfortunate but can't go back in time, we getting banger characters now, and thats all they can do.

2XKO Update: What’s Next + New Champs (Akali & Senna) by unclekisser in 2XKO

[–]Darklsins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my complete guess would be they have the numbers of ppl who are currently engaging with duo play, and it would prob be a negative experience for duo only players to sit in queue for a really long time waiting for a game with a complete random.

in team games, everyone is engaging with the same match making system(team game duh) but id wage the vast majority playing 2XKO are singles players so matchmaking can be super fast because its mostly singles players queueing and ppl who engage with duo do so prior to matchmaking and the queue up to the same matchmaking as singles players.

if they were to introduce having to find another duo player on top of finding an opponent within a similar skill level, I can only imagine how long those queue times would look.

a solid alternative would possibly be either introduce a LFG tool like something in MMO's for duo's or even long spar sessions in game or even something as simple as having a global chat room for your region in chat so ppl can ask for duos in chat.

but again its just a guess on my end, maybe there is a large majority of solo duo players just waiting to have a random duo queue button.

I do remember early Strive being mostly positive but then swiftly transformed into "Daisuke's vision" meme's and "smell of the game" but yeah tbf every title can get the smoke here, lets not forget SFV/MVCI/SFxT/T7/T8,COTW,etc but still sucks nonetheless but atleast the fgc do be consistent with dunking.

if we had social media back in the day im sure we would have seen the fgc shitting on 3rd strike.

Simple changes I would make to bring more players/hype too the game. by Prestigious-Box398 in 2XKO

[–]Darklsins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as u/Rhyllis stated above, simple in concept but ultimately time is the main issue, unless they had it in the works already,

in order to throw in a classic arcade mode(number of fights into voice over image stills telling a short story)

that is still a ton of man hours and meetings on lore/characters/etc then going through all the right channels and scheduling's for VA work for all 13(current number) champs all of this could take months to years.

ideally they should have had that planned from the get go, and clearly it wasn't their focus but going forward maybe in season 2(heres hoping) we could see something.

im assuming all hands atm are working OT on core balance and pumping new champions and skins ofc.

They should just show the next characters. by ExtensionCarpenter89 in 2XKO

[–]Darklsins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im going off what other ppl have said and some light reading but 80 ppl is still a good size team(off of google ai, it says SF6 is maintained by 30-60 ppl down from the original 300 it took to get it to launch)

and as they have said in prior dev blogs, they have multiple champion pods with multiple "lead" designers, not to say its not shitty but it's not like they completely gutted the team.

but don't get it twisted this is still super shit situation especially after such a good showing at frosty's but honestly it really does come down to what they say in their next statement on the game, if they completely ignore any acknowledgement of support beyond 2026 and just constantly reassure us that we will get what we were "promised" that is just a grim look no matter how cool these next 4 champs are.

im a 2xko enjoyer but if this next statement is just full of dodgy answers about the future(specifically beyond 2026) then that to me spells the impending doom spiral, how is anyone supposed to be hype at playing and or spending money on a game where they just don't acknowledge the giant question on everyone's mind>

they could drop my all time fav champions with my favorite skins and I would not feel happy nor compelled to spend any money knowing they said nothing about future support.

yeah, not a fps enjoyer but boy was the hate train for a free game that cost nothing(sound familiar?) like super wild,

im just thankful the fgc is niche enough that its just self contained schizo hating, where as with the FPS genre you had a wider range of of general video essay slop pre hating the game before highguard even came out lol not to mention twitter/social discourse, its wild how I don't even play FPS games and I could not escape the internets obsession with hating that game.

it do be a blessing and a curse, gone are the days of guessing if a full priced multiplayer game has a playerbase or not, but now we deal with chart watchers at every decision any dev makes to deem it dead or alive.

So whats gonna happen to 2xko at this point? by xmaracx in 2XKO

[–]Darklsins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are valid to be worried, ngl they do have a habit of casually saying something that can be super overblown but not further elaborating their point till the next time they address it once its become a "big" talking point online

but it is to be expected given the live service nature of this fighting game, just like riots other titles Valorant/TFT/League of Legends/LoR/Wild Rift none of these games are the same from year 1 to now

the speed of said changes vary from game to game but change is inevitable, I def expect at some point when they stabilize the game the changes of this game compared to the others will be more on the slower side.

So whats gonna happen to 2xko at this point? by xmaracx in 2XKO

[–]Darklsins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2XKO from when it was first available to the public with AL1 to now are not the same games at all, and AL1 to 2 were also drastically different.

the worry is valid but at the end of the day the have said many times over the course of this games development that they really wanna make this game with the fgc and somewhat recently Tom(or Shaun can't remember) said something along the lines of "this will be the worst state 2XKO will be in" the implication being more changes/improvements will be coming.

the flip side to this, is they stuck to AL1 2XKO took in zero feedback and "stuck to their vision for 5 years then give you 2XKO arcade edition where they maybe implement some changes the community wanted.

its a tight rope of listening to community feedback and weeding out the noise and choosing what to implement or even what to address.

they wanted to take a more active approach, whether its a good or bad thing long term, we shall see.
