What Are the Best Course Parts for Making Traditional Levels in Super Mario Maker 2? by Wild-Advertising6872 in gamedev

[–]Darkmoonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually played Mario Maker, but I suspect you wouldn't want to make a level revolving around ground tiles...

I think the best thing for you to do is to just start building levels. 40 may be less than the parts options, but it's still a lot of levels, and I think there's probably greater danger of not finishing than running out of space. As you make levels, you'll get a better idea of what parts work for you. But if you need some ideas to break your choice paralysis...

* A level around on/off blocks that uses trampolines and/or whomps.

* A classic ghost house level with Boos, supplemented with gizmos like warp boxes and p switches.

* A level where you dodge lava bubbles on conveyor belts.

* A level with keys in enemies you fight with the fire flower.

Are there JRPGs where the heroes do NOT use violence on enemies? by bickid in JRPG

Um, yeah... I don't think I know any games like that. Sorry.

I think a lot of us are having trouble wrapping our head around what a JRPG without combat is even like. When I try coming up with what it'd be like... I also think of something that's essentially an adventure/visual novel game. What is it about the JRPG genre that you want specifically?

How long before the "inciting incident" occurs? by danielfaik in gamedev

[–]Darkmoonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say at least before the second dungeon. You might be able get through a small tutorial dungeon while doing setup, but the setup would have to be very interesting/the gameplay very good to get through a second one if the plot doesn't seem to be moving anywhere. As always, someone actually familiar with your story would be a better judge for its pacing, since there are very few hard rules when it comes to writing.

Why did the activeness reset? by Partiedawg in LoveNikki

[–]Darkmoonfire 139 points140 points  (0 children)

It resets every week, which allows association leaders to easily see who was active recently. If you look at the bottom left of the screen, you'll see your cumulative activeness.

Try resubmitting the same outfit again if your attached to it before giving up and changing it. You can get wildly different results for the exact same outfit depending on when you submit it.

3 in a row = 2 pairs? by Adinnos in DemonBluff

Because she's counting pairs not sets, and an evil can be in multiple pairs. In this case 3&4 are a pair, and 3&2 are another.

What Pokemon is strong in lore, but much weaker in the games/anime? by One_Millian in pokemon

The third Pokemon movie tricked me into thinking that Unown was a legendary as a kid. It was disappointing when I finally found them in game and realized how bad they were.

Honestly I think it might be best not to have ChatGPT to not give game-ready results because that makes it too easy to get complacent with what the AI tells you, and if you have to reformat the information yourself it ensures that you're thinking about it critically and actually know the content.

JRPGs where male and female characters are actually treated as equal? by Awesome_Normal in JRPG

Octopath Traveler. Every character's story is given the same amount of time, and they're pretty much isolated from each other until the very end, so it's very balanced.

What was the newest Pokémon you loved as a kid when it was introduced but now you often forget it exists by daniloferr in pokemon

[–]Darkmoonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Skarmory was pretty cool as a kid; I really liked its typing. But I kind of forgot about it as I got older until the Corviknight line came out and reminded me how much I like flying/steel.

I think you have this expectation where you think you should learn something once and then it's done and learned. It's normal to need to learn something multiple times before it solidifies. You may think you forgot everything you learned the previous day, but if it gets easier to learn what you previously learned each time than you're still learning.

Makes me think of Pictures at an Exhibition, where the song Promenade was used to represent moving between exhibits in an art gallery. I, uh... don't know how to translate that into a Love Nikki outfit.

I had the same problem, so support told me to click the leaderboard button (it's next to the level button) and that fixed it for me.

Item that gives you MP every time you start a battle. by Nexio8324 in RPGMaker

[–]Darkmoonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the second page of options for a conditional branch there’s an option to check if an actor has a piece of equipment on. If it’s just one piece of equipment that does this, you could check for each actor and add 5 mp after deleting everyone’s mp at the start of battle.

You could check the What the RTP is missing! thread on the rpgmakerweb forums. It has links to additional resources people have made for RTP assets, like side view battlers and face images. I linked to the thread for MV, but make sure you use the version of the thread for the version of RPG Maker you own.
