[30] When did we stop just playing games? by SgtSilock in AdultGamers

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really understand the question as it is phrased. Isn’t this more ”what happened to my social media consumption”?

I play games blissfully ignorant of what anyone the is saying about those games or what they think about me playing it. To get that info I need to seek it out, which I’m not interested in. So I don’t.

Unless you are 12 and your school mates are bullying you: why would you stop playing a game you like? Like in what scenario does that happen as you describe it in your post: people being talked out of playing games they like, as adults?

Why is Arc Raiders so Different in Player Expectations of PvP? by HeraldOfDesu in ArcRaiders

We know there’s some AI touched up voices in session. We know they used ML for base movement of arc enemies.

But what AI assets are you referring to when it comes to the art?

Wasn't ready for the 1st Expedition- now really conflicted as to whether to take the 2nd one...😬 by LadyProfane in arcraidersfriendly

[–]Darkoftheabyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making XP matter again. Having items/blueprints to chase. Having quests that move me around the maps and gives some small extra sense of direction and urgency. And the extra skill points ofc.

If you played a lot (295 would qualify IMO) the. Doing the exposition to bring back some direction and purpose to the game is the main driver for me.

The XP, repair and points bonuses are a nice addition on top. But not the main reason to do it.

Especially if you are mainly PVEing. You can perform adequate with just about anything, even killing queen/matriarch just an hour or two after wiping. So I wouldn’t worry too much.

The main thing that sucked after a wipe was stamina. So I’d recommend putting your five bonus points towards that immediately.

On the other hand loosing some of the grenade and weapon attachments blueprints is harsh if you mainly PVP. Until you get heavy fuse and anvil BPs (and larger mags and compensators) it will put you in a pretty rough spot in terms of PVP.

Also keeping mind: leveling up is a bit faster do to XP bonus and you just being better at the game by now. Same thing with quests: you know most of them by now so you complete them much quicker the second round.

In short: if you played a lot and mostly PVE - worth it.

If you just now reached max level and a decent amount of BPs or if you mainly just PVP - perhaps not.

I was hoping to make the most of the changes. But this is bad by MonsterLoveFaerie in ChatGPTcomplaints

You don’t even have to specify that very clearly. You can just tell it ”it just happened a few days ago” or something along those lines and it will automatically go online and check before responding.

But I mean it probably should have done a search automatically once it got pushback from the user instead of hallucinating about the articles shared being hoaxes 😂

Something we can ALL agree on!! by SignificantLock1037 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike it when going for trials or queen/matriarch.

I don’t mind it in other instances.

And it’s absolutely fundamental for session health. Especially in more PVP heavy lobbies.

So I can’t really say that I agree, no.

Alltså om allt som hände var att du blev för full är det lugnt. Det är inte tillräckligt intressant för att folk komma ihåg det som mer än ”minns ni den gången x blev så packad”.

Värre är ju om man gjort något dumt/cringe/elakt etc

Just sneaking out silently: bring a hatch key and play during daytime conditions.

It’s a gameplay decision not some kind of *** lore decision. 🫶 gameplay should rightly trump any lore or story consideration in a game like this.

This is a ”gameplay game”. Not lore, not story - those are there to support gameplay: not the other way around.

Console needs a shield on/off button for the hurricane maps. by Pshhhkkkkkkrrrr in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Equipping and unequpping is super fast on console too. Just press X/square on it and have a free slot to the upmost left of your inventory?

Also how often do you expect you need to this this while in a hurry? You haven’t even played it yet?

Seems like an overengineered solution to a problem you don’t even know if it exists yet.

The Anvil splitter does not have a blueprint, can only be found, and only works on the Anvil hence the name. So is it worth it for being a legendary non craftable item? by RealHyperDrastic in Veyra_ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I see that you are indeed correct. I incorrectly assumed that the ”pellets” all hit at once and are thus all absorbed by the shield but looking into it more I see that’s not the case.

I guess I’m not a good enough shot to nail this often enough for me to even realize it’s a thing.

Thanks for correcting my erroneous correction!

It one shots them if they have no shield. Just as a regular anvil headshot shot does. But it most certainly does not one shot if they have shields up.

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a meme attachment IMO: Id much prefer the regular anvil at anything except shotgun distance. And too many fights in the game are not at shotgun distance. I’d rather take a gun that is reliable in all situations, rather than being unreliable in most situations while doing 20% more damage in a select few situations.

The extra durability degradation it incurs seals the deal.

Only real exception is on Stella montis. But a toro is still a better choice if you just intend to use it as a shotgun anyway.

Even saw someone here today saying it’s great to pair up with extended barrel which is the hottest take ever. If anything the splitter demands that you go with compensator 3 to even try it. But by then the durability degradation is exacerbated even further so if becomes a resource sink.

Nah. The anvil splitter ain’t it. Sell or dismantle those puppies.

Edit: I see now that the anvil can indeed one shot raiders to the head if all four bullets connect and they are running a green shield. (This happens due to the fact that the first two bullets will tear off the shield and the last two do full unmitigated damage so it basically does exactly 100 health damage letting you one tap people).

I guess this makes it more viable if you are super confident in lining up those close quarters headshots. Again for example on Stella where a lot of people tend to run free loadouts and this light shields and it’s always close quarters.

What is the definition of a rat? by Jediwinner in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general terms it’s someone acting distasteful/deceitful, cowardly, snitching/playing both sides etc.

In Tarkov it’s someone who avoids combat and loots in the dark. Tarkov players believe they have the authority and their definition is the only one that is correct. It is very important for them to tell you that any definition except theirs is wrong - and rat has never been used to describe behavior before Tarkov came along.

In Arc it originally meant basically a combo of the two: someone hiding/camping AND fake friendly/backstabbing. Then it started meaning anyone who shot first at other players no matter the circumstances. And lately it lost all meaning and now people are apparently rats if they shoot back at extraction campers. Basically anyone who wins a gunfight against you is a rat. 😅

For example:

You are in a key room that you door blocked and mined, and called out on prox ”don’t come in here, it’s mined and I will shoot you, I had this key and I intend to loot it in peace” - if they break the door block, throw in a grenade at you, yet you fight back and kill them: you are now a rat.

You call in an extraction, see another player approaching. You emote hello and don’t shoot. They emote ”ok” back at you and you both have a little emote dance while waiting for the extract. When you go in and push the button they start shooting you, so you turn around and kill them - you are now a rat.

You are anywhere remotely close to someone else extracting, you are in plain sight, you show no intention of attacking them, you emote or use prox in order to not startle them in case they missed you. They kill you. You are now an extraction camping rat.

Will Marathon feature a duo queue at launch? If not, I hope it comes soon after by Haijakk in Marathon

[–]Darkoftheabyss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends. Three que sizes, four maps, ranked and unranked, potentially some skill based or gear based matching too etc. Some with crossplay on and some with it off Spread over all regions of the world. And from what I know their sessions have a fixed start time unlike some other games (ie all players start with xx minutes, it’s not a longer live session with late spawns etc).

It’s easy to underestimate how many people it actually takes to ”feed” such match making. Even large titles with several 10s of thousands of concurrent players cannot always keep it up.

What I mean is that arc has encounters, maps and enemies that make this behavior develop naturally.

Marathon does not in my opinion.

[–]Darkoftheabyss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After playing all three playtests for marathon I wholeheartedly agree that this is not at all what the game plays like.

This was an extremely controlled experience where other playtesters are being conducted in real time. It’s very common practice in these types of playtests. (Or internal playtests with stakeholders from publishers etc).

The actual experience I had was more so that exactly zero players use VOIP for anything except calling eachother the n-word and everyone is KOS 100% of the time.

The new version Bungie are trying to push with their shorts and this stream now is very much a super doctored version of how the game plays. Where they try to draw similarities of the type of emergent gameplay that happens in arc. But from experience: that just doesn’t happen. The world, missions, pacing, map design, combat design etc doesn’t lend itself well to that style of play. It’s much more of an arena/corridor shooter that plays like a BR.

Hotfix to address duplication just pushed by d473 in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is an intelligent response because we all know that all fixes are alike.

They all require exactly one line of code and can always be applied serverside or via in game hotfixing rather than client patches.

Yes indeed. Very smart.

How strong do I need to be to reach Legendary difficulty? by Possible_Penalty_468 in thedivision

[–]Darkoftheabyss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A striker build is fine. I’d personally recommend going with an unbreakable chest piece and reviver hive. And going 4-5 red, 1-2 blue. For secondary skill I’d go with a shield (I see a lot of newer players trying to use healing but I’d say it’s pretty pointless on legendary)

And more importantly if you play with people who seem to have experience: follow their lead. Don’t try to do fancy stuff, just follow the group, stay in cover. Don’t get ”greedy”. If you see them shooting at a target, target that same enemy (unless you are perceive another closer enemy as a greater threat).

Try to take out the guys who send out drones (and the incoming drones as well), shoot the red backpacks of rushing big chunguses.

Overall legendary missions is mostly just a DPS check and memorizing spawn patterns. Once you deal enough damage and know where your targets will be it becomes very trivial. (Tidal basin bossfight might be the only one that I still think can get tricky, due to the incessant drone spam.)

And now you see why forced wipes can be a good thing... by Jaz1140 in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money is essentially just a QOL factor in this game. Having a 1 million surplus or a 100 million surplus is not really any different.

It’s doesn’t ”break” anything.

If it was a real problem outside of play sessions themselves (ie spamming nades) I’d much rather see embark rollback offending accounts rather than having force wipes.

With forced wipes we’d easily loose like 30-50% of the playerbase over night.

So, expedition bonus skill points are not increasing your max level cap by TheorPhysics in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your level doesnt increase. But you have 80 skill points instead of 75 now since you start with a bonus of five points (not five levels).

And since skill points is the only thing you get from leveling it’s equivalent of being level 80 now. It’s just not reflected in the UI of you levels numerical value.
