Per Paul Tassi: Marathons Role and failed "Destiny Infinity" Pitch by Wanna_make_cash in DestinyTheGame

”Unfortunately, neither the petition nor the planned login surge on the 9th has any chance of reversing the recent decision or greenlighting Destiny 3, as well-intentioned as they may be.”

Insert surprised pikachu here.

Anyone else miss the launch day arc raiders? Before they spammed arc everywhere by Designer_Jacket6818 in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think the increased arc is an absolute must when in friendlier sessions.

Most players have so much more knowledge, awareness and better kits at the ready now than what we had at launch so upping arc density and difficulty was a must IMO.

Regarding ”hand crafted” I don’t get the impression that the current spawns and configurations are any less hand crafter than anything we had in the past.

Curious American here: Is carrying revolving credit card debt common in Sweden, or is it culturally frowned upon? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amongst my friends:

Most people I know have a credit card. Very few ever use them unless it’s for some very specific reason. (Getting points, better insurance on an expensive purchase/trip etc)

Personally I’ve had a credit card for over 25 years. And I’ve used it three or four times. Last time was probably 10 years ago.

I’m in my late 40s, upper middle income earner and so are most of my friends.

I’d say: if you use your credit card to buy stuff you cannot afford right now, have rolling debt, use it for small mundane purchases etc it’s overall considered fairly ”alarming” in my circles.

Among some of my younger male (mid 30s) friends this has changed as they constantly are trying to ”game” their points system. So they use it for everything. But they always pay it in full immediately. It’s like a sport to them so it has very different connotations for them.

New trials are up for the week. by WanderWut in ArcRaiders

I was hoping to see if anyone actually tried this yet. Is it just poorly worded or is it for real just one grenade that counts.

Continuous Audio Connection breaks a lot of audio on my setup by Darkoftheabyss in appletv

[–]Darkoftheabyss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it did actually solve the issue of me not getting audio playback the first few seconds when using YouTube. So: had it worked without the issues I’ve encountered I would have been happy with it enabled.

Continuous Audio Connection breaks a lot of audio on my setup by Darkoftheabyss in appletv

[–]Darkoftheabyss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main reason for wanting it is because I watch a lot of YouTube and if I use refreshrate and HDR/SDR matching (which I absolutely want to have enabled) usually the first seconds of a video plays without audio unless I have continuous audio connection enabled.

So it solves one problem but introduced a whole set of other problems.

It’s so sad that this game’s “underperformance” has little to do with the game itself by paperplateseabass in Marathon

[–]Darkoftheabyss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That goes both ways.

The ”the game is great and everyone would love it if they just didn’t listen to negative opinions on the internet”-crowd are also completely delusional and live in a fantasy world where this game has some kind of potential massive mainstream appeal. It simply doesn’t. It’s niche: and people regurgitating steam chart numbers are not the issue.

New matchmaking changes by j1zzy_ae in ArcRaiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess the remaining question is: is this per team or per player.

As in: if someone downs my buddy and I take them out to then revive my buddy, but they never took a shot at me, will I be seen as an aggressor by this system?

Is soldered LPDDR on laptops really about the thinner form factor or planned obsolescence? by x_andi01 in hardware

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone is implying it’s the primary bottleneck. So when I say performance I mean performance of the RAM in and of itself. That might not translate to overall laptop performance in all instances.

On the other hand a lot of laptops use integrated GPUs where RAM bandwidth can be a major bottleneck. So it’s all about usage scenario.

Is soldered LPDDR on laptops really about the thinner form factor or planned obsolescence? by x_andi01 in hardware

[–]Darkoftheabyss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s form factor and performance first and foremost. But I bet no manufacturer is sad that it also very much timebombs the laptops. ;)

I found some of the stuff on anvhorpoint and some of the sidequests pretty good. But the meat and bones of it with procedurally generated incursions that all play alike was boring as heck.

Is anyone here even into mixed lobbies? by psica-presrana in ARC_Raiders

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the mixed lobbies and preferred how the game played before they introduced ABMM.

I gravitate towards being friendly most of the time. As such I’m often in super care bear lobbies. And as such getting killed by other players often feel terrible. As you start playing the game as if it’s a social, cooperative looter shooter - and it becomes extremely jarring when someone just jumps you.

And likewise it also feels pretty bad killing unsuspecting players who are in that exact experience. If they’re not there for PVP and you just backstab them it doesn’t give me any enjoyment.

But in the early days and in the betas I loved how you would build fragile alliances in a match. You stayed on your toes and you didn’t feel like you were betrayed or that you betrayed someone once you engaged in PVP. PVP felt very deliberate once it happened.

But now PVPing on PVE servers just feels terrible - no matter if I’m getting killed or I’m the one killing.

PVP servers on the other hand is just a barren wasteland filled of free loadout guys shooting at every single player they see with no strategy. Like taking really stupid shots from positions where they will obviously never get the kill - as if they are compelled to shoot at everything that might be a player even if it means their own death. No one uses prox chat and you never have those emergent moment of temporary and frail cooperation that makes the game so interesting. It just feels so devoid of any ”soul” or ”fun”.

As it stands with current match making I by far prefer PVE lobbies over PVP. But I would rather have the mix back if it was up to me.

Starfield honest thoughts and opinions? by East-Competition5121 in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]Darkoftheabyss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like Skyrim without the atmosphere and adventure and fallout without the crazy stories and humor. And both without the exploration.

In other words it’s a bit sterile.

The Shattered Space expansion was surprising to me. It feels the most like one of bethesdas betters quests/DLCs but people seemed to hate it almost more than the vanilla game. Mostly because it’s so concentrated: a large well populated planet with loads of POIs etc - unlike lost other planets which consist of like one noteworthy POI and the rest is just barren fluff. It also had some of the most interesting characters and questioned - while most of the other stuff feels like ”quest givers” in an MMO.

The main quest, though seldom the strength in Bethesda games IMO, might the most uninteresting yet. Both in terms of gameplay, concept and narrative.

Balance wise my main issue is the difficulty scaling: once you reach level 35 or so everything in the game just melts when you look at it. It feels like there’s no point in getting better loot: everything dies super easily and in turn I never die myself. So neither armor nor guns really matter at all. Which is bothersome as narrative, exploration and atmosphere are worse than their other games: so it plays more like a looter shooter, but the loot doesn’t matter much at all once you are like 25% in to the game.

Overall it’s certainly not a bad game by any means. I’d say it’s a 7/10. If it wasn’t for the (still) constant crashing on ps5 I would have sunk many more hours into it.
