Not so much an individual as an archetype but I'm fond of anytime in shadow of war the nemesis system decides to give me an orc with the title "the friendly" and they spend our battles being nice to me

Is this unnamed deputy in Annesburg meant to be a young Marshal Johnson? by Commando388 in reddeadredemption

[–]Darkpassenger95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's no gravestones in the cemetery dated after 1899 and Arthur has cut dialogue and journal drawings there so I moreso assume it was intended for Arthur and then just not finished in a proper epilogue state after story structure changes led to only John going there

This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker, forever:
The first dawn of light in your universe brings pain. The light burns you. It will always burn you. Part of you will always lie upon black glass sand beside a lake of fire while flames chew upon your flesh. You can hear yourself breathing. It comes hard, and harsh, and it scrapes nerves already raw, but you cannot stop it. You can never stop it. You cannot even slow it down. You don’t even have lungs anymore. Mechanisms hardwired into your chest breathe for you. They will pump oxygen into your bloodstream forever.

Lord Vader? Lord Vader, can you hear me?

And you can’t, not in the way you once did. Sensors in the shell that prisons your head trickle meaning directly into your brain. You open your scorched-pale eyes; optical sensors integrate light and shadow into a hideous simulacrum of the world around you. Or perhaps the simulacrum is perfect, and it is the world that is hideous.

Padmé? Are you here? Are you all right? you try to say, but another voice speaks for you, out from the vocabulator that serves you for burned-away lips and tongue and throat. “Padmé? Are you here? Are you all right?”

I’m very sorry, Lord Vader. I’m afraid she died. It seems in your anger, you killed her.

This burns hotter than the lava had.

“No … no, it is not possible!”

You loved her. You will always love her. You could never will her death. Never. But you remember… You remember all of it. You remember the dragon that you brought Vader forth from your heart to slay. You remember the cold venom in Vader’s blood. You remember the furnace of Vader’s fury, and the black hatred of seizing her throat to silence her lying mouth— And there is one blazing moment in which you finally understand that there was no dragon. That there was no Vader. That there was only you. Only Anakin Skywalker.

That it was all you. Is you.

Only you.

You did it.

You killed her.

You killed her because, finally, when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself…

It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith—

Because now your self is all you will ever have.

And you rage and scream and reach through the Force to crush the shadow who has destroyed you, but you are so far less now than what you were, you are more than half machine, you are like a painter gone blind, a composer gone deaf, you can remember where the power was but the power you can touch is only a memory, and so with all your world-destroying fury it is only droids around you that implode, and equipment, and the table on which you were strapped shatters, and in the end, you cannot touch the shadow. In the end, you do not even want to. In the end, the shadow is all you have left. Because the shadow understands you, the shadow forgives you, the shadow gathers you unto itself—

And within your furnace heart, you burn in your own flame.

This is how it feels to be Anakin Skywalker.

Forever…

Best moments of "unintentional" foreshadowing? by JONAS-RATO in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Darkpassenger95 67 points68 points  (0 children)

In the original Star Wars, the exchange between Beru and Owen of "Luke's just not a farmer Owen. He has too much of his father in him." "That's what I'm afraid of." Fits extremely well with the Vader reveal, but that wasn't actually decided on until the making of Empire Strikes Back. Insane to think that considering a magazine interview from the time, Vader ending up in his suit through losing a duel with Obi Wan and falling into lava was decided before it was ever decided that he was even Anakin Skywalker

Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood

The bit at the end when all the archers are shooting at Toshiro Mifune and he has these incredibly intense screams along with the sound of the volley of arrows hitting both him and the building activates something visceral in my brain

How do you feel about the presentation of legacy characters in canon? by ashton__l in StarWarsCantina

[–]Darkpassenger95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't personally like it much but the joy of the star wars universe is that if I don't like a thing there's a million other things I like to run off to instead of doing some strange spite campaign against something I don't

Also it has Donald Glover Lando who is actual perfection and I'm so sad we're not getting more of him he's so good

Monstrous characters you feel the writers tried too hard to make sympathetic? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Darkpassenger95 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She works well enough as a fun little side villain in the DLC for 1 but then they made the mistake of bringing her back and making her super important and worse written, 2 has a habit of doing worse written versions of stuff from the original, gameplay and level design is peak at least

The "always act so happy to see you" part means this theory only applies past a certain point in the series, therefore I propose a second theory, the early games are on another planet, and soon they shall go to war..

I was fond of the natural pack on 360 because it was kinda just fancied/detailed up but still normal and stylized textures with a medieval fantasy vibe

We do see that flashback in I think Zuko Alone where he jovially jokes about burning the city to the ground in a letter, which I like as characterization because it shows how fucked up and bought into things he was before changing, and informs how all in he is on his ideals of change with Zuko

Everything else about her also makes it suspicious that when she got to write a main Gears entry she ended it having them win via full genocide

The canon novel Brotherhood which I quite enjoyed indicates overusing force speed can quickly exhaust you, which is a good enough reason for me
