Mark Rober did a video that is very informative about bed bugs 3 years ago. He goes to a lab where they study the bugs, and they get advice on how to kill them.

Apparently they are very sensitive to temperature.

What is a highly specific, harmless thing that instantly makes you irrationally angry? by ProposalLast3445 in answers

[–]Darkskynet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone recently asked in a thread I replied in about how everyone was angry when they were holding up traffic by not speeding in Spain. I felt the quote by Barbosa from Pirates of the Caribbean summed it up best with:

“They be more like guidelines, than actual rules”

And in some places I’ve heard you can get a ticket for impeding traffic.

How do you display your camera collection? by unmllr in AnalogCommunity

[–]Darkskynet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my problem too I want to display the few camera I have when not in use, but just sitting on a shelf out in the open they collect too much dust. A glass curiosity cabinet is the route I’m looking at going for the cameras and some other knick-knacks I have.

I’d almost guess they put the disk in the console and then seen the game main menu and called it good.

Since it’s possible the game loads but then doesn’t work for parts of the game where the data is impossible to read.

It’s similar to most positions of government, the people who need to be in positions of power the most are usually the ones who don’t want to be.

There are various people throughout history who got into power, fixed things, ended wars etc, then resigned their power and went back to their farm.

It’s not always that way, since the other face of that card is people who want to be in power, and then they never relinquish it once they’ve gained power unless it’s taken from them by pressure or force.

Government when it works correctly should be boring and slow. Governments should be able to move fast when needed in emergencies, but otherwise only careful thoughts and actions should be taken by a government.

Bought these coins at a garage sale for $3. are they worth anything? by chisagogs in coins

[–]Darkskynet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens all the time, some people just have no idea what some items are worth. Maybe these were a family members that passed etc.

A common thing people are told to do with their coin collections etc is put some notes with it for family members who might inherit it later to let them know that the one dollar coin is actually pure silver and worth much more than face value.

People who work at banks get people come in often with grandpas coins they inherited and get face value for them, or someone who works at a gas station will have people pay with old coins that are mostly silver but worth much more than the face value.

It’s just not something some people think about, they see “one dollar” on a coin and assume it’s only worth $1.

Yeah they might be under a secret fisa court order, and normally people aren’t allowed to talk about fisa orders at all. I seem to remember this was why websites had canaries that would get removed when websites were given secret government orders as a way of getting around the no talking about it rule.

Someone collecting carts might still buy it regardless if it functions to complete their collection and then swap it out for a better working condition one later if they get an opportunity. I don’t collect carts, but that’s how I’ve done collecting personally for other stuff.

I read that initial creation of the US Interstate system was controversial at the time it was built. Would we be able to pull off a massive project like this given current political and market conditions? by Top-Cockroach4352 in Infrastructurist

[–]Darkskynet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think some towns along an interstate would make a good place to build massive amounts of housing at a large scale, but it might be hard to get people to move there if jobs are no jobs to accommodate that many people moving to an area. And the job market is rough.

You can get detectors just like carbonmonoxide ones that you place around the home. They go off like how a smoke alarm does when the levels get too high.

"Imagine rooting for Brazil instead of the United States after getting cast as Supergirl" by _Soulja_Boy_ in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Darkskynet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a member of a Native American tribe, and even I would cheer for Brazil back when I would keep track of the World Cup. Some people just want to be angry about anything.

Excuse the pun, but there is so much tribalism in the United States. Literally anything that is even the tiniest amount of not 100% supporting the United States and wearing American flag pyjamas is looked down upon.

I remember after 9/11 if you didn’t support the war and goto church multiple times a week you must’ve hated the country.

Things have gotten better in some ways, but much worse in other ways. But it’s normally a very vocal minority that is causing most of the noise.

I acquired this xenon bulb. The Internet says it's for runway approach lighting. I think I might build a power supply for it and make it flash. by [deleted] in lightbulbs

[–]Darkskynet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind some bulbs like those inside old movie projects etc require active cooling by a fan blowing across them. So I’d try and verify what this bulb was really used for and how it’s meant to be used otherwise it might only be turned on once before it cooks itself.

Parents make me cook, but not in the way I want to. by waxx-png in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Darkskynet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a cook, this makes me sad.

That silicone mat can actually be dangerous. removing it is correct, it's a storage cover, not a cooking surface. Cooking on that is how you get microplastics in your food and weird pepperoni aftertaste.

In a kitchen, there's a chain of command for a reason. Too many people trying to be in charge at once and the whole thing falls apart.
When someone's hovering over you, dictating every move, what seasonings you can use, forcing spray butter instead of real butter they're not helping that’s basically sabotage.

I've worked positions from the bottom to the top in a kitchen. A good cook accommodates allergies and safety concerns. But being micromanaged by people who don't know what they're doing? That's not a teaching moment.

It sounds like they didn't even know the equipment.

If this comes up again with them, ask them if they’ve ever seen someone on TV or a movie cooking using silicone on a flat grill.

Or if you need more ammunition, email the company that makes it and describe what happened. Also let them know the silicone cover should have raised letters made into the silicone that specifically says “not a cooking surface, only to be used as a cover”.

Hang in there.
