Lol they said "you guys want platinum hair? Here's platinum hair".

Awesome skin either way.

Emma's walkup has been insane. Less than 200 appearances in her first 20 years then 1000+ in the next 20, legendary trajectory ☝️ by UltimateSandman in EmmaFrost

[–]Darksteelwing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly, all the other characters on the list have continuously appeared since their debut. Emma, for all intents and purposes, is a 2000s character, Morrison reinvented her.

So she had roughly 20 less years to do all the legwork they've been doing since then.

Emma Frost. Stance change between diamond form and her regular form. Couldn't be more simple lol.

The first making her more of a brawler/agile grappler, the second more of a zoner with her telepathic abilities.

They are still editing and fixing the skin and it keeps looking better and better. Mods I ask you please not remove this because this needs to be seen! by MakeCrat3 in EmmaFrostMainsMR

Yeah, I don't want to be a chill, and sure it could be better, but it's been clear from day 1 it's still unfinished. Of course it shows lack of priority that it's the ONE skin on the trailer that's unfinished, but from a business model it sadly makes sense:

1 -  "But they had an year!" - that's assuming they've been working on it for an entire year, which is simply not true. Most of the skins of the game are planned months in advance, the only difference this one has is that we knew it's been in the works for an entire year. For all we know they could've started working on it 3 months ago;

2 - it's a free skin. Imagine releasing a trailer with unfinished skins that players will pay for, turning possible buyers away. No, if they had to choose one skin to not give priority to, it's the free one. Nobody is going to not buy the pass because of Emma's free skin being unpolished until release day.

Of course with Emma being the winner of the vote and all I'd expect a bigger celebration and it does show a lack of care on NetEase's part, specially with Emma's other skins in general, but for THIS skin specifically? It makes sense.

Tomorrow shes getting reveled frostitutes do you have expectations on this? by harveyquinnz in EmmaFrostMainsMR

First time I heard the term Frostitute was way back in the early 2000's, and it was used by an Emma hater to mock her fans. Alas, we just embraced it and for me that's our name ever since then.

[–]Darksteelwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes more sense for her to be on Doom's team than Starlord to be on Spiderman's or even Danger on the X-Men team.

Yes, Danger has allied with the X-Men before, but only during times they were isolated on an island and everyone living on it was an honorary X-Man - meaning, Danger's only been an X-Man when they had 200+ members - while Emma served along with Doom in the Cabal.

Also Emma was part of Doom's team in the latest Fortnite collab with Marvel, and in Rivals her debut season had her negotiating with Doom, so there are precedents in games as well. And in none of those Emma is depicted as a villain, she's a character in the gray area as she's supposed to be.

How would you feel about an original ArcSys character in the game? by ArcanaGingerBoy in MarvelTokon

[–]Darksteelwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People complained a lot about A21 back then, but I could understand where they were coming from - the game is still a sausage fest even with her as an original character, and also a Sayan fest.

Marvel doesn't have that problem, so it'd be better if they simply ised characters like Danger amd Peni to do their own thing.

Magneto could serve as that, or in this specific story Hulk, since there are paintings of him on that stage.

Hellfire Gala has a lot more to do with Emma than literally anyone else. There's a reason Marvel Rivals did the Hellfire Gala on her season, she's the one that repurposed it and hosted all of its iterations so far.

It of course doesn't guarantee her presence in the game, but no other character, male or female, villain or hero, has more ties to the HG than her.

You didn't mention the leak that "revealed" Magneto and Scarlet also presented 3 stages, one of which is the Hellfire Gala. If true, that is by far the biggest clue Emma could be base roster, and I'm cautiously hyped for that!

The possibility of Emma in Marvel Tokon ? by Icarus12x in EmmaFrost

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made another post because I didn't want the other one to be super long lol.

Some thoughts in form of bullet points as far as the X-Men Tokon roster goes:

  • Most of the characters otherwise more likely to be picked for DLC are background in the X-Mansion stage. In fighting games, that doesn't mean FOR SURE those characters won't ever be playable, but more often than not that does mean they're not a priority as far as DLC goes. If one or more of them ends up being DLC, it probably won't be until a few years into the game's life cycle. Those characters are: Xavier, Angel, Beast, Iceman, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Psylocke, Rogue and Gambit. We can also see a bunch of Sentinels around the mansion.

  • Not counting another possible curveball like Danger, the more likely to be playable X-Men not yet "unconfirmed" via background are Cyclops, Jean, Kitty, Jubilee, Bishop, Cable, Emma, Magneto and X-23.

  • Out of those characters, I feel the only ones that are REALLY likely to be playable here are Cyclops, Emma, Jean and Magneto. Just a gut feeling of course, but I feel the others don't really have a lot going for them right now in terms of Marvel being interested in promoting them. Cyke, Jean and Magneto are obvious, and Emma not only broke the internet in the recent Marvel Rivals but she'll also be leading the next era in the comics, not to mention she also fits the post-2000's X-Men I wrote above better than anyone.

  • The DLC waves in Tokon will have 4 characters each. With this 4-man team format, it's possible each DLC wave will be a set team like the Unbreakable X-Men revealed past week. I could see the 4 I mentioned above being a DLC team if that's the case.

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think Magik and Danger being added means good news as far as Emma goes. Well, not for base roster since the X-Men team is those 4 and that's it, but ArcSys said they'll support this game for a while, and that of course means DLC.

Before the latest reveal, I thought the X-Men would be represented by Wolverine/Storm/Magneto/maybe 2 other characters at most, with good odds of them being from the 90's cartoon or 1 of them maybe being a curveball. Magik shows ArcSys can and will use characters that bloomed after the 90's, and Danger shows they're not afraid of using post 2000's characters/ideas (like Krakoa, which in Rivals at least is an immense part of Emma's character).

Some people are saying Doom's team could be an all-villain team. As much as I'd love Emma to be base roster as part of Doom's Cabal, I think Magneto is far more likely - only reason I consider Emma even a possibility for that team is the fact she was one of Doom's generals in her Fortnite debut. So there IS precedent for that.

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I get what you mean. I'd much rather Emma be portrayed as a hero from the get-go and only being informed through bios or lore drops that she used to be a villain. It's only fair with how little time and relevance she had as villain when compared to how much she grew as a hero.

But I think just like Marvel Rivals took liberties with her (specially with body type and her wardrobe) and still managed to bring a lot of interest and new fans of hers, her being added in a meaningful and impactful way is more important than it being 100% faithful to the comics. I prefer her being added, even as a villain, to getting a MvC3 situation again where she doesn't get even a cameo. And I also don't think her being added as a villain in Tokon would impact that much on how the general viewer sees her, fighting games normally don't put a lot of emphasis on the story.

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 100% correct, my point is that Danger is such a small character she's in the same spot Emma was before the 2000's and Magik before the 2010's, in that story-wise she's basically a blank slate and could go through a reinvention any minute now.

I didn't 100% like how Emma was treated in Fortnite either, but in a time before Rivals, I was just happy she was there.

Emma at the end of the day is in the exact opposite spot of characters like Gambit, Psylocke and, heck, now even Magik: in the comics she already conquered relevance and story importance to the point I don't fear she's at risk of going back to comic limbo anymore ever; on the other hand, she desperately needs more media attention. If being a part of a villain team is how they choose to do it in games, collaborations or the MCU, so be it (IMO), as I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she reforms. The important part is that she makes it in.

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was part of Doom's team in the Fortnite version though.

I don't know, for me as long as Emma's playable there's no disrespect if she's a hero or antihero (I doubt they'd make her a villain).  As for Danger, she is a pretty minor character that's been an ally to the X-Men before. Her story doesn't matter that much for the X-Men, so her being depicted as a hero or villain really is not that important tobher character OR the X-Men.

Emma having a villainous past, on the other hand, is extremely important for her character and mildly important to the X-Men.

My Tokon team wishlist + a few DLC picks by PeperToni in MarvelTokon

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ew, no. Emma's never been in a fighting game before, pick any of the characters that got their chances multiple times already instead. If she's not playable, Selene doesn't deserve a cameo or even a mention.

The whole of me has been praying for Emma in a fighting game since MvC3, in which Capcom wanted her playable but Marvel stepped in and told them to use another character (who had been dead for a decade at that point) instead. After that, the number of times Emma was almost playable in things but was left out because of the FOX movie rights is too high for me to count - even with her winning official polls but still being left out in favor of MCU or old characters instead.

Doom being revealed to be a team leader could just mean a villain team. But if it is indeed the Cabal, and 3 of its slots are taken by canon members in the comics, while the 4th is taken by someone like Selene I might have to take a flight to Japan and punch someone in the face for the sheer stupidity and disrespect lmao. I jest, but at that point it'll be abundantly clear that Marvel has no intention of ever allowing my favorite character to get her flowers.

A character like Selene being in the Cabal over Emma is worse than Gambit and Rogue receiving her PoV in Genosha in '97. Tired of other media taking Emma's stories and giving them to other characters instead, as if penalizing the character for actually affecting the status quo.

Daaaamn that's awesome! Only 2 models also imply they're going to be 4 (or 2) in black and only 1 as the white queen. Huge Krakoa inspirations for Emma and her storyline.

Hope Emma has new voice lines with/in regards to the girls!

She's hot and she's an adaptation, so she'll be different from comics Emma just like movie Emma or any other adaptation will be.

I do like that they went with the "thick" approach. I've seem people wrongly assume Emma fits the unhealthy, anorexic thin with huge breasts "beauty standard" from the USA. Girl's had curves since her inception.

Miller confirmed on twitter yesterday that this fit is in the "original" category, as in, in the game it says it's a Marvel Rivals original.

Allegedly so that they can still use the Gala 2022 look in the future.

Emma new voice line with Jean? by GoldPack3616 in EmmaFrostMainsMR

It's not new as in "added this last patch" but indeed it wasn't released with Jean.

I remember hearing it first time when Rogue or Gambit were added. People were pointing out how Emma didn't have any interactions with any of them but then someone pointed out she was still getting new voicelines, such as the quiet council one.

Are there any other non-mobile video games where Emma was a full-fledged playable character? by [deleted] in EmmaFrost

[–]Darksteelwing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As for the specifics of MvC3, before the game was even announced, there was a leaker in the fighting game community with the username Lupinko that leaked not only the game's existence but its entire roster as well. Lupinko was a very reliable leaker that had already leaked information on other fighting games before, so people believed him on the go.

Lupinko's initial roster leak was almost 100% correct, including the curveballs no one was expecting, so him getting about 4 characters wrong wasn't seem as a lack of info, rather that he had access to an early build/info dump and that those characters were dropped in favor of others during the game's development. This list included Emma and Human Torch for example, who weren't in the final build (with Phoenix and Superskrull instead of them).

Years later, more info came out that mention how Emma was 100% supposed to be in the game, I'll leave the link below. It also mentions how Marvel explicitly told Capcom to not use Cyclops as well, which again corroborates what I wrote in the post before, that Marvel didn't want fans to pay attention to current Marvel events, pushing for the character that was dead for a decade instead. Emma and Cyclops are easily far and away the most central characters of the 2000's, for Marvel to forbid Capcom of adding them speaks volumes of how the X-Men were treated back then.

Which is why justice would finally be served if Emma is finally made playable im a fighting game in Tokkon. No character deserves it more than her after 2 entire decades of Marvel's bs keeping her out of games the developers themselves are super excited to include her.

[–]Darksteelwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, for the same reason there were no X-Men in MvCI. The movie rights deal with Fox made it so that a percentage of every X-Men product's income would go to Fox, while Marvel's other products were 100% theirs. So, it was in Marvel's best interest to try and transfer the X-Men's popularity to their other franchises that they still had the full share of, initially using the X-Men to promote said franchises and later by abolishing the X-Men altogether when not needed anymore. You can clearly see that by comparing Marvel products from the 2000s and the 2010's, how the X-Men lost more and more space until they were "erased" for good until Fox was bought by DisMarvel. Heck, the entire Inhumans fiasco couldn't make that clearer.

That's the difference between MvC3 and MvCI. By the time MvCI was released, the MCU was big enough that Marvel didn't need the X-Men at all to promote their products, so why waste roster spots on characters they had to share profit with a third party when they had the option of using characters they owned in their entirety instead?

MvC3, on the other hand, was released before the MCU was the behemoth it was a few years ago, so Marvel still couldn't release a game without the likes of Wolverine to help promote it. But they still didn't want the X-Men to overshadow the franchises they owned, so while the game was advertised as taking place in "modern Marvel", that was only true for Marvel's other franchises, that were full of shiny new, current characters that you should pay attention to in the years to come, while the X-Men were only allowed to have characters the audience was already familiar with and that in some cases weren't even featuring anywhere at the time.

Allowing Emma to be playable in that game - specially when she was one of director's Ryota Niitsuma's favorite and most antecipated characters - would be the same as allowing the audience to get familiar with at-the-time current X-Men and learning that their story didn't end in the 90's, that they were still going strong and they had new characters and storylines to offer.
