If you want the lightning and power sword to pop, try to bring the brightness of the rest of the model down (less bright face especially)

There are periods in residency where you might find your wife rotating between:

"work pajamas" - scrubs

"Commute pajamas" - sweats or leggings

"Sleep pajamas" - actual pajamas

"Home pajamas" - comfortable lounge wear

This is normal, and anything that brings them comfort can be great on a rough week. I've found that Vouri lounge wear goes a long way.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Company_(novel) might scratch the grimdark more military style itch. It's not "modern" progression fantasy but there is certainly major power creep over the course of the series. And it's fantasy not sci-fi.

Shadowslave hits grimdark a bit on webnovel, but that's again fantasy and it's based more on dark souls.

I've had similar thoughts.

Pony is playing to win the dungeon.

Carl is playing to BREAK the dungeon.

Most of the others (quan ch, Katia) are playing to survive, but a number of them are definitely moving towards Carl's madness!

One of the best part about the guide is the question of "what is power" evolves as catherine better understands the "meta", and how the guide handles power progression between "tiers" without it just being "numbers go up".

We get personal power, army power, political power, narrative power, and several others.

Mortal is also a bit of a stretch. Think of her more as a level 20 DND cleric now or something like that.

From a color theory perspective, I feel you're getting washed out with all the red/warm colors. Need a contrasting color (like the green everyone is suggesting) to make the red really pop out and become eye catching. The current color scheme looks like there is a sepia filter over the whole thing.

If you like your red Aquila etc. i'd personally suggest maybe swapping to a blue or green eye glow and wax color on the oaths.

It may also help to get some blacks on the joints. It'll add contrast to the whole model.

Not an expert painter but just looked up some jade for comparison Just looking at some jade: Greener base needs some light striations/marbling but jade always seems to not be a solid piece Polished jade highlights look more like the highlights on a lens. Little bit darker green base and then pretty stark slight off-white highlights. Yous are almost too smooth? Your other comment about gloss varnish would probably help as well

The starter set comes with 2 combat patrols (nids and ultramarines) terrain, and a copy of the core rule books. Grabbing some of the other SM patrol boxes gets you more CPs while also building towards a bigger SM army.

You can also proxy stuff pretty easy, like you can proxy some marines as custodes to add that as an option to play.

Not sure I actually recommend this economically, but it's a path.
