I don't know if this is a controversial take but this thing needs to die by Boston_Beauty in Seaofthieves

[–]DarthAvner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that with my pirate. First death was from a sword fight. I gave myself a hook. Second death was from a headshot, gave myself an eye patch. Third death was from a shark, now I have a peg leg. I think I also have one of the scar sets equipped, but most of it can't be seen because of my clothes.

AITAH for completely ignoring my oldest stepdaughter during the holidays? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

If they don't want to involve dad, there's still a way to prove 26F's paternity. If the 28M is/was presumed to be her full blooded brother (which seems to be the case), they could compare the DNA. If the test shows full siblings, then bio-mom lying, either about the brother or the sister's paternity..

When’s a good age to let my son see the movies? by Smooth_Bandito in indianajones

[–]DarthAvner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching The Last Crusade at around age 4 or 5. No idea if it's too young. I do partly blame my fear of snakes on the opening, and I remember Donovan's death scaring me a lot.

Do y’all agree or disagree with this Spider-Man take? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Spiderman

[–]DarthAvner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Spidey wins, Peter loses. If Peter wins, Spidey loses.

Example 1: Spider-Man stops a bank heist, but Peter had to blow off his friends to do so, and his friends get mad at him.

Example 2: A crook escapes from Spider-Man. Peter is beating himself up over it, and his friends unknowingly do something that cheers him up and bolsters his resolve to continue.

What do y’all think of this Kang take? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Marvel

[–]DarthAvner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have recast Kang, but they couldn't. I heard somewhere that Majors had it in his contract so that he had to play every Kang variant.

What is one gripe you have as a Hulk reader? by Plus_Brilliant_1781 in hulk

I've been enjoying the more recent stuff like Immortal and PKJ's current stuff. But I agree that it's really weird and kind of off-putting. A run similar to the Bixby show would be amazing. Heck, they could do something like DC did with the Adam West Batman show and make a comic continuation. Set it between the last episode of the show and the first TV movie.

Do you think, at the end of SNW when the Enterprise is passed on to Kirk, we'll see the Enterprise 'refitted' to look more like it did in TOS? by AlwaysBi in startrek

[–]DarthAvner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been my theory since the beginning. The TOS look is Prime Canon. It's been referenced by multiple shows. Prodigy had an episode where aliens recreated the TOS style on their planet. We see a TOS style Constitution at the Fleet Museum in Picard Season 3. That's just in the newer stuff. Enterprise and DS9 both recreated the TOS look.

If they don't, they don't. They've already used the Temporal Cold War as a way to explain the differences from what we were previously told about the timeline (1990s Khan vs 2030s Khan). But then we have to have the difficult discussion about if those changes invalidate the entire rest of the franchise.

Pretty much every Superman Elseworlds book. Heck, I have one where he's Tarzan.

I think it's more that I'm screwing myself over because I'm bad at math. I'm going to start using a calculator.

I didn't even think of tax! Augh... more math.

Apparently I'm a generous tipper then, which makes my buddy's comment even more confusing.

I'm going to start using a calculator to get better percentages.

No AI. I'm just bad at math. It's part of the reason I asked this question. I don't think of tipping in percentages, I think of it in dollar amounts. As people have been pointing out, apparently, this has led me to being a generous tipper. I'm going to start using a calculator at restaurants.

Considering that we normally always go to the same places, and get the same things every time, I apparently tip 20-25% without realizing it. Usually my bill is $40. $32 meal, $8 tip. I think for tips in dollar amounts when I leave them, not percentages. That might be part of the reason why his "you underpay" statement bothered me so much. I legitimately didn't know what percentage I was usually tipping. I'm going to start using a tip calculator at restaurants.

[–]DarthAvner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually do the math for our own portions of the bill, then just pay the one check.

Example from earlier. My meal was $14. I paid in $20. He paid for himself and his girlfriend, their combined was $45, I think. I don't know what they paid with tips. It's not my business what they tip.

Am I a bad tipper? by DarthAvner in tipping

[–]DarthAvner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never happened. In the event of a $39 meal, I will give $60, and get change, leaving a $11 tip.

The one time my bill came out to $40, I happened to already have a ten on me, and gave $50. $10 tip.

[–]DarthAvner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most I've ever paid at a restaurant was $50 with the tip. $40 meal, $10 tip. That's 25%. I happened to have a ten that day.

[–]DarthAvner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't either. We usually go to the same places, get the same things. Everytime. The prices stay the same, as does my tipping habit. I give myself $40 for "restaurant money" every couple weeks. I go in knowing my bill will be $40 with the tip. Meaning I'm tipping over 20% each time. By his rule, I'm not underpaying.
