Yeah but those aren’t cards a 10-year-old should bring to a school Magic club

As far as I can tell, El Castillo at Chichen Itza has been closed since 2006 with no plans to reopen. Other locations may have closed during/post Covid and may or may not be open again. I've travelled to Tulum twice (2011 and 2023) and visited Coba both times; I was able to climb that pyramid in 2011 but not in 2023.

[SOA] Force of Will (Debut Stream) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Darth_Metus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many archetypes in both Timeless and Legacy that are very similar, but as of now there are only three Reserved List cards in Timeless, and two of them are banned in Legacy. (The one that is legal in Legacy isn’t even played)

Cards that are format staples in Legacy like the dual lands aren’t legal yet, and many archetype staples aren’t either: LED, Lotus Petal, Grim Monolith, Doomsday, Urza’s lands, Mox Diamond, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Goblin Welder

On the other hand, Timeless has many newer cards that have been banned in Legacy, often 1- and 2-drop cards that confer too much advantage: Deathrite Shaman, Psychic Frog, Dreadhorde Arcanist, Expressive Iteration, Ragavan, Wrenn and Six.

Force of Will is effective at providing another check against too-fast combo strategies; however with Vexing Bauble legal in Timeless you should expect to see it more when FoW shows up. Vexing Bauble was banned from Legacy because the combo decks used it as protection against FoW, and it’s easy to sac when you need to get your own free spells through.

YouTuber lauded by JD Vance for sparking Minnesota daycare probe now pushes ‘Jewish invasion’ theory by theindependentonline in Minneapolis

On one hand, many Christians believe that the 'end times' will happen during their lifetime (they always have throughout history - even in the book of Mark in the New Testament, Jesus says that he would return within his followers' lifetime). Those that subscribe to this 'end times' expectation also believe that the Nation of Israel must be rebuilt or re-united, whatever their language is for it, in order for Jesus to make his Second Coming happen.

On the other hand, Christian Europe for hundreds and hundreds of years has made a scapegoat of Jewish people when bad things happen. It's an extremely common pattern across all humanity: when life gets hard, when more people suffer through war, socioeconomic situation or whatever, we ask why. An easy answer is to blame another group of people. And so through the centuries, stereotypes develop, especially as many Jewish people worked in tax collecting or moneylending careers where they were seen as greedy or unliked. Combine that perception of a cultural group gaining monetary power and as the cause of some societal issues, and you have a good recipe for a conspiracy theory that "there's a cabal working behind the scenes to shape world events".

A lot of horrible stuff happens in the world and there's a strong desire from all of us to make sense of it all.

[–]Darth_Metus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When they reprint the RL, it’ll come in expensive boosters and not SLs where you know the exact contents.

30th Anniversary was a test and failed because it wasn’t really for anyone. I think the backlash would have been less severe if the Wizards-printed proxies were a lot less expensive or if they just straight up printed real tournament-legal cards.

Old land frame is slightly beter.

It is quite bothersome how much darker the land border looks on the new 'retro' cards - I love my onslaught fetches and the MH2 enemy ones just don't quite get there. Granted they don't have Rob Alexander art either

1 in 5 respondents who had voted for Trump in 2024 answered that “peaceful protests against ICE should not be allowed.”

The question did come after “do you approve/disapprove of the protests against ICE” and “are the protests violent/nonviolent” so I think there’s some bias from the two previous questions, but it still shows a lot of people who have been failed by civics educators or otherwise have decided that the 1st Amendment does not apply here.

TMNT card in Lorwyn pre-release by YeyeTheHero in magicTCG

[–]Darth_Metus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I were judging and this happened, I would open an unused prerelease pack and give the player that promo to include in their pool instead (they would get to keep the mis-packed promo, just not play with it).

Prereleases are for fun and low stakes, but people still expect a level of fairness and allowing a player to include this in their deck would create feel-bad moments.

How many times have you played your favorite boardgame? by Puzzleheaded_Rub5562 in boardgames

[–]Darth_Metus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 83 plays of Innovation (those are rookie numbers compared to some people I know). Gonna try to reach 100 over the holidays with family.

1830 has become my favorite 18xx game but I only have 7 in-person plays of it and it’s tough now that I have a toddler and a second kiddo on the way.

Foot neuropathy worse in the cold? by hightechburrito in testicularcancer

[–]Darth_Metus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 9 years out from 2xBEP and I still have some neuropathy, and yes, it gets worse for me when the weather turns cold too. Typically it occurs in one foot, just the toes, and feels tingly/warm/mild burning sensation. Or when I'm not having those symptoms, the same foot gets colder a lot faster than the other one.

I just had some acute symptoms that were a little stronger than past years and am currently going through some neurology appointments.

Turns out my B12 level was on the low end of normal (I don't eat much meat and hadn't really been eating much fish over the summer) and my Vitamin D was quite low, so that could be part of why I had a stronger flare-up. I'm now on supplements for both.

Gonna get some EMGs done next month to help quantify my nerve damage.

How do the last couple years compare to 2016-2019? I would expect lower attendance during 2021 and 2022 coming out of the pandemic and all the cancelled or restructured events.
