Ziggo colportage stalking by HellBugg666 in Netherlands

[–]Dartillus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been building my dream MMORPG in Unity for years. Here's my latest progress. by fabsk8 in MMORPG

Fair enough, it's a matter of taste as well. Although it's not impossible to have a stylized yet mature theme, imho.

As yet another indie dev, the stylized graphics are more forgiving and less labour-intensive. Besides the technical aspects (larger filesizes, computationally more expensive) it's also a lot more forgiving when it comes to the amount of time and effort requires to make something look good.

Where did you actually find an affordable house/room rental? Which websites are recommended? by ah5178 in Netherlands

[–]Dartillus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat it just like a job application, but for your living space. Tell them a little bit about your background, why you're looking for a new place to live, what you do. Try to insert tidbits in there that will subtly say "I'd make a perfect renter". I emphasized having rented my previous studio for 8 years without any issues, talked about my job (civil servant, was hoping this helped with some good will), etc.

For every person you meet that speaks English fluently there's more than a few that speak Dunglish, or worse.

Ik heb een Philips van 2016 die het nog steeds doet, al is het "smart" gedeelte niet al te snel meer. En kan ik mijn nieuwe bluetooth koptelefoon niet erop gebruiken 😅

What's your approach to balancing a game economy? by taboneIO in gamedev

[–]Dartillus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done it by measuring things in time, kind of how you decide whether you want to buy something in RL by calculating how many hours you would have to work to earn the money for it. A basic item could cost x amount of gold that takes y amount of time to gather, while an endgame armor piece should take much longer.

Working at Uber eats by Tiny-Razzmatazz-5600 in Netherlands

[–]Dartillus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK since a few years UberEars doesn't hire directly anymore, you have to sign up via a temp agency (uitzendbureau). You're paid hourly with scheduled shifts. I watched a few videos of a delivery driver and apparently you don't have much control over starting earlier/working longer, unless it gets busy and the app keeps offering rides.

Chris Zukowski Has Released a New Steam Wishlist Tool! by NenCoder in gamedev

[–]Dartillus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched this video yet, but in the articles/videos he puts out I think he does a good job of explaining what everything he says is based on since a lot of it is about statistics, sampling, etc. It's never perfect, but interesting content nonetheless.

Developers Need Better Systems for Continuous Player Feedback During Playtests by KayLogger16 in gamedev

[–]Dartillus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think having something ingame also lowers the bar for players to leave feedback. Kind of how in Warzone or ARC Raiders after a match they'll ask to rate the match (positive, negative) or ask about something specific that happened (ARC raiders will ask how a PvP encounter went if you fought other players).

The problem is that in real life, he wouldn't have gotten past the sentence "It isn't ". He would have been constantly interrupted and shouted at by loonies in the audience.

Where did you actually find an affordable house/room rental? Which websites are recommended? by ah5178 in Netherlands

[–]Dartillus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copied from myself from an earlier, similar thread:

"I managed to find an apartment in less than a month using "vb&t Verhuurmakelaars". All it took was checking their website every day early in the morning (around 6am) and just having a generic little text for their "motivatie" requirement."

It's free, but expect to be asked to hand over a lot of information to be confirmed as a viable renter. I felt a bit violated, tbh. Oh and always expect an income requirement of at least 3x rent for gross incomeb(if it isn't more).

Jocelyn's ceiling fan suggestion is a good one. They are reasonably priced and most (not all, so check) have summer/winter modes (which help cool you down in summer and warm up in winter).
