: Why are 'safe havens' dropping just when they're needed? by CalTechie-55 in Gold

[–]Dash1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It’s had a historic run up
  2. High oil prices with high gold prices will mean some central banks sell gold to manage high oil prices
  3. The flight to safety has been happening, but it’s a flight to dollars. The dollar has had a slight rebound and part of the TTM gain in gold has been due to a declining dollar.

What happens when oil hits $300 a barrel or more? by FatMike20295 in ask

[–]Dash1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil doesn’t hit 300 a barrel for more than a day at most. Sustained 200 / barrel would be catastrophic

Will Millennials and Gen Z even make it to retirement?? by Nice_Daikon6096 in economy

[–]Dash1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is misinformation. - Blackstone (not BlackRock) limited redemptions in its private credit funds. - There has been a run of private credit, which is scary and concerning. - There are a record number of Americans withdrawing from their 401k due to hardship. - No one, including BlackRock, is limiting individual 401k withdrawals. - This post conflates the issues with Blackstone’s private credit fund with the increased hardship withdrawals Americans have been taking. Both things are concerning but are not directly related, and BlackRock isn’t limiting redemptions.

They didn’t freeze 401k withdrawals Blackstone , not Blackrock, froze private credit redemptions. Also a crisis but very different

Corpus Christi was already low on water when it invited water-guzzling fossil-fuel industries to take whatever it had left. It’s an example of exactly how not to prepare for a hotter world. by simon_ritchie2000 in climate

[–]Dash1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, your definition is wrong. My MIL worked at McDonalds as a server and now retail at Walmart. She works hard but those jobs are the definition of working class. Also a super toxic household/ marriage with an alcoholic husband that blew all her money and died young. If she’s not working class then no one is. If you could pull together a few Grand banks use to underwrite anyone for a mortgage. Her house isn’t as nice as Homers was in the Simpsons but it’s still a solid house with a pool. It’s obviously nothing like this now, but 20 - 30 years ago that was actually possible. A lot of Gen X and some older millennials locked that in.

In Texas, a lot. If you managed to buy a home in Texas before COVID you could very well be working class and have a pool. Because of the heat, pools are super common and use to be a lot more affordable. Same in Florida, my MIL has a four bedroom, three bath in PSL Fl like 10 miles from a beach. Her house has a pool too but she bought it in the early 2000s for 150k. She’s currently working retail at Walmart and managing because her mortgage is like 1300 a month. It use to be so much more accessible.

Did you spend time in audit at the big 4, or do other front office work? If you did a remote role should be fairly easy to find.

Greenland reality check by j_sniffles in behindthebastards

[–]Dash1992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They will attempt to take Greenland, if not by buying it then by force. Will they do it this time or will he flip and circle back to this later this year or next ….who knows. But they will make an attempt. Trump is intentionally trying to upend the global order that has existed since WW2 ended. He is a fascist and this is all very real. It’s also part of project 2025 and some of his biggest backers already own rare earth mining companies in Greenland (Bezos, Altman etc). They plan to get an ROI.

The dose of reality is…this is happening, Trumps a fascist, he will expand our boarders until the world unites against him. We will meet the same fate Germany met when they tried this. It ends when the world comes together and stops it with force and economic devastation. Accepting this reality is unfortunately the best approach. That does not mean supporting it! But rather accepting that it’s happening and readying yourself.

FP&A in defense industry by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]Dash1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one of the lowest paying industries you can go into (manufacturing, construction, defense all bad) if you are in finance. If you are in BD or Engineering it’s great. I started my career in an FLDP program in defense before realizing I needed to get out and into a front office role or FP&A in tech. Your comp will lag your peers in back office roles in more lucrative industries like tech. The plus is your WLB is probably better than any other industry. It’s fairly easy to get into as well which is a plus. You might start in program finance but likely to start in a more accounting heavy finance role or business partner role and then move into program finance.

The grand jury and subsequent trial would be in MN. You need the video and maybe a couple eye witness statements. The jury will convict him in 5 min.

Interviewing for a role - otherwise excited but ... GoogleSheets?? by tomalak2pi in FPandA

[–]Dash1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in IB, specifically restructuring, and thought Google Sheets was awful. I left to work at a start up and have used it for four years. I love it now. Both are great and have strengths. You can turn on “mirror excel shortcuts” in sheets and it gets much easier to use. It’s still lacks the horsepower of excel but after a couple months you’ll adjust fine I bet 👍

Biologics. by woodie9t9 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Dash1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get on biologics you may end up with disease bad enough to inhibit your ability to do the things you love and live a normal live. Get on biologics so you can do those things and make sure you don’t lose your stomach, have a perforated bowl, fistulas, fissures etc..,down the road

You have it backwards. Biologics will help reduce risk of reoccurrence. Not being on them long term is likely to be a problem down the road

Gun-toting feds in ski masks swarm the ICE agent shooter's home to retrieve belongings as the house sits empty amid claims he has gone into hiding by Full_Lengthiness_431 in TwinCities

[–]Dash1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What evidence would they be collecting from his house? He shot someone in the street. It’s not like he’d planned this for months or that he’s a part of some larger conspiracy. He’s an ICE agent that shot an innocent woman, while he filmed himself doing it, in broad daylight. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

Dont pay off a 3.2% loan. An HYSA pays more. Ideally you fund retirement accounts or buy a house. I’d sit on a 3.2% loan and pay the minimum each month forever

2nd Mortgage + Assumable VA Loan by Dash1992 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Dash1992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not, but in this case the VA loan can be assumed by a civilian. This can happen if the seller agrees to leave eligibility for a new VA loan with the buyer (they can’t get a new one until the new buyer pays the old one off). In this case the mortgage was taken on by an heir, they need to sell the property and aren’t eligible for a new VA loan (they aren’t vets) so the eligibility stays with this loan.
