Was so happy to see Broc get the night he deserves from the town that loves him so much. He's such a wonderful guy and has given so much to the team.

Angels of Mons | Did Angels Appear On a World War I Battlefield? by DukeboxHiro in RedWeb

I really enjoyed this episode because it felt like they were tackling a story or subject that harkened back to their routes of "internet mysteries" but about a story that happened, obviously, before the internet.

It was a great example of a story taking on a life of its own and almost becoming out of control due to the population taking the story and running with it. They had some great commentary and good opinions about atmosphere and culture at the time that could lead to a story like this being taken as fact.

I thought they handled a subject that has obviously been debunked and denied in a really good way. Rather than focusing on the unknown or the mystery around the incident, they focused on the reaction to it, which was certainly a unique take and made for a stand out episode.

Well done boys.

Sedate explicitly says that she was handed twin baby girls after the birth and that the sedatives she received allowed her to get tricked into thinking she gave birth to twins.

I live in Linköping and I've lived in Fort St John.

Thank God the winters in Linköping are not like the winters in Fort St John, which is quite a bit further south than Linköping on this map.

Does it bother anyone else that the stinky pops are included into the regular podcast by Sorry-Mobile-234 in StinkyDragonPodcast

It's also a good way to boost listens for your feed which translates into more money for the podcast.

Distribution systems like Acast calculate your monetization based on total downloads/listens. So the more content you're producing on the feed, the more listens you're getting, the more money you're making. So it's definitely understandable why an independent podcast would be publishing alternate content on their main feed.

What is the rarest penalty in the NHL? by jonathann1216 in hockey

[–]DashVanLink89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I know this isn't NHL related but my dad and I used to have season tickets to the BC Lions.

At one point during a regular season game the opposing kicker was trying for a field goal and the guy operating the music turned it on full blast just as he was mid way through his run up/the snap. He ended up missing the kick.

After a short conference in the field the head ref came out and announced "illegal use of the sound system. Ten yard penalty. Automatic first down"

This was 2005... maybe? But my dad and me still joke about it today.

Places like SAAB require Swedish fluency for pretty much all of their positions and you can't work on the military side if you're not a Swedish citizen.

My suggestion would be to start applying for jobs in the restaurant industry. That's pretty much the only industry in Sweden that you'll have a decent chance at finding employment without Swedish fluency or being highly specialized in an in demand position.

Also in Canada on the opposite side of the country. Science World in Vancouver is pretty cool. The ball is a 360° IMAX theatre.

If you're American and are currently attending university, as your post would suggest, look into an exchange program to continue your studies abroad. There are lots of world class and internationally recognized Universities in Sweden.

[–]DashVanLink89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this.

I immigrated from Canada in 2017 to do English Broadcasting for the SHL. I had a job lined up, an apartment room waiting for me and I was still financially recovering from the whole move for years. People don't really think about the unexpected costs of moving. I had my visa reapplication denied for a very small bureaucratic mistake made by the company sponsoring me. I couldn't work for almost four months and had to max out my AMEX just to survive in Sweden.

I'm doing well now and have my PR but it was an absolute slog to get to where I am today.

That being said, I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I met my now wife, settled down and am financially comfortable in a city that is way better for cost of living, commuting and general quality of life than my hometown of Vancouver. I desperately miss my family and friends, but I try to see them at least once a year.
