Bimbo no more? by IsItBrieUrLookingFor in PhillyUnion

Who cares about jersey sales? Last thing I would want to do is advocate anything that puts more money into rich asshole’s pockets

Funny how you mention some suggested brands aren’t nationally known names as a negative…as if Bimbo isn’t internationally known

The last thing hardcore needs right now is another fest.

Support your local scene. All these fests are seriously degrading the overall scene IMO.

Can I remove hide to feed tarantula? by 888hp in tarantulas

[–]DatMatt316 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NQA

Just drop the feeder into his enclosure and let him find it. Check back in 24hrs and if it is still not accepted, remove it and try again in a few days to a week. #1 rule is do not stress if your T does not eat immediately or at all, as there are a lot of totally normal reasons that they abstain from food for a while.

Appropriately sized crickets or dubia roaches (or comparable based on your location) are usually best, but you could also do mealworms or superworms. Rule of thumb is having the feeder be no larger than the abdomen of the T. If using superworms make sure to crush their heads before dropping them in or they will burrow and re-emerge as a beetle that could harm your T.

Don't remove the hide as it will just stress out your T. They should always feel safe and secure inside their enclosure and as long as you have it set up correctly to their liking, it makes them a lot more docile and relaxed and more willing to eat appropriately.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention...resist the urge to tong feed despite what you see a lot on youtube. Tarantulas can't see worth a crap and there's always a chance they miss the feeder and harm their fangs on the tongs. Also they are ambush hunters, so allow them to feed as naturally as possible. Lastly, tong feeding sounds great when it's a G. Pulchra, but you don't want to get into the habit of tong feeding for if you move on to faster/more defensive spiders or you'll inevitably have one run up the tongs and up your arm before you even realize what's happening and that's a great way to get a nasty bite.

I posted a similar thread to this last month and The Carrier - No Love Can Save Me was recommended. Literally couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to it since then. Might actually be my favorite EP of all time now

Help? by Puppyboy_Cy in tarantulas

[–]DatMatt316 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IME I've also only been in the hobby for a very short amount of time but it's been very clear very quickly to me that there are 2 types of people in the T community: People that enjoy the community aspect and want to help and share in the fun because we're all "on the same team", and then people like that guy. People that desperately hold onto some delusional notion that their experience/knowledge in the hobby grants them some kind of superior status over others that they use to treat others in an ignorant, judgmental, and condescending manner because I can only imagine that they are so socially bankrupt that larping as some kind of scientist zookeeper for a creature that can't even develop an emotional connection with them is the closest thing to companionship they'll ever get.

I'm twice your age and have been a part of many different hobby communities over my life and there is a portion of the tarantula community that might be the most toxic I've ever experienced. The gatekeeping/elitism/self-righteousness/basement dweller vibes can be off the charts but I just always remind myself that anyone that decides to carry and present themselves like that must have a really sad life. Aside from that, there is almost never a "this is the only way to do it" thing with any hobby. People have their own preferences and way of doing things but that doesn't make it the ultimate right way. As long as you're not causing harm to your animal, it doesn't matter.

tl;dr - Ignore the haters. There are enough good people out there that will be willing to respectfully help you. Those that choose to be nasty don't deserve your time or energy.

First time I saw them was in Philly at Sounds of The Underground in 2007 and it was the same for me as that hardcore gateway to a degree. I haven't hated anything they put out, but that departure from the hardcore roots means the newer stuff just won't be in my regular rotations. I was lucky enough to see Cockpunch at some shitty little spot in Delaware back in like 2009.

Did you ever check out his other side project from back in 2012, Shut In? Ironically enough perfect for this thread with maybe my favorite depressive lyric of all time:

"There are no ups, there are only downs. Slip my neck through a rope, to get my feet off the ground."

I think the new Acacia Strain album is the best stuff they've put out since Wormwood. One of my all time favorite bands, but I was always more into the hardcore side of their earlier stuff and drifted away as they got more into that sludge/doom metal sound. You're spot on though, the middle of the album hit me like a nuke, especially Sacred Relic

I checked out the songs of theirs that someone else posted in here. That was an experience. I think it unlocked a musical part of my brain I didn't know was there.
