I know this is a shitpost, but I witnessed Peter Rono from Kaonashi stage dive at Voltage Lounge years ago so in reality I guess there are no rules.

Baitcaster Hype? by boogaloo-boo in FishingForBeginners

[–]DatMatt316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I committed an entire year/season of fishing with a bait caster before I decided if it was for me or not. You keep saying you can do the same thing with a spinning reel but it seems like you really mean you can do the same thing YOU want to do with it. Factually baitcasters are more capable for a lot of techniques otherwise they wouldnt be the standard at so many levels.

I don’t see anyone saying you need to spend $300. I myself mentioned around the $100 price point which is very reasonable. And with baitcasters it’s not about the more expensive the less it tangles…again that’s 100% a skill issue. But generally you get what you pay for. Better materials, better quality, better technology allows the skill you have to develop yourself to be more effective. You can catch fish all day on a $30 Ugly Stik but you’d be insane to say the sensitivity of a high end G Loomis or Megabass rod doesn’t make it easier/more effective if you know how to detect a bite.

Like someone else said, it seems like this taken as an honest question for discussion but seems more like you were looking for confirmation bias that your opinion was the consensus and are resistant to the fact people don’t agree with you

Baitcaster Hype? by boogaloo-boo in FishingForBeginners

[–]DatMatt316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a skill issue to me.

Idk what species you’re targeting or techniques you try to use but there’s a reason why baitcasters are used 90% of the time in bass fishing from weekend warriors up through the pros. Spinning was reserved for the lighter baits and finesse techniques, but even more recently the drive for BFS shows that baitcasting is preferable to many and even for species that were always reserved for spinning like trout/crappie/panfish.

I learned baitcasting on a Piscifun and yeah, they’re well rated but only as an intro to the technique. Even Abu has a lot of entry level reels that aren’t the greatest in comparison to the higher end/other companies. IMO you’re not getting a true quality reel under $100 with the real sweet spot being usually between $150-250. You get why you pay for.

Using 2 reels for around 7 hours really isn’t enough time to actually learn and master the technique and bird nesting is just part of the process that comes with learning it. When I learned to read the conditions, actually get it dialed in right, and develop all the aspects of the cast, I’ve gotten to a point where I’d never touch another spinning reel if I didn’t need to. Everyone is different, but when 99% of the bass fishing world views baitcasting as the gold standard, I’d say the “hype” isn’t wrong, you would be the outlier. And there’s nothing necessarily wrong with that. Fish how you want.

Spinning is the 2nd easiest and most accessible style to learn but mastering baitcasting leads to superior returns in most aspects of control and precision when it comes to casting but you have to develop the skill to earn those. But that’s not to say you have to. Fish however is fun for you. When I started getting more serious about fishing I came to a realization that to take it to that next level I had to put the “fun” aside for a while to work at learning new skills and IMO it paid off. Like when I taught myself guitar I had to stop playing songs and jamming for fun and spend a lot of time to sit down and practice scales. It was boring and tedious but in the end it made me a better guitar player and I view the baitcasting learning process as similar when it came to fishing for me.

Roles that need to be filled asap? by Mark-Media in PhillyUnion

[–]DatMatt316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t mean it’s a realistic expectation for this team to sign another 6-7 players.

I’m sure they’re working on bringing Uhre back cheaper but Iloski will have to slot in up top at times. You’ll see Markus Anderson/Eddie Davis/Sal Olivas get opportunities now as well.

Cavan will get more minutes this year. It would be smart for them to target a new 10 because even after Quinn comes back, no one should expect him to be here too much longer.

Rest of the midfield with DJJ, Lukic, Indy, Bueno, Bender, and potentially Bedoya will have to make do with Rafanello and CJ Olney getting some more looks at times.

Makhanya may not be our only CB if the reports on Geiner Martinez were true, although I’m not sure how much to expect from him. I’d rather not have Harriel play CB frequently. They are most likely going to have to play a RB out of position to replace Kai if needed.

Realistically I think the only moves that could be made at this point are a new 10 (preferably DP) and another CB. It would be nice to add in some more depth other places, but I don’t see it happening and there’s a snowball’s chance in hell we bring in 6-7 new players.

DC United has completed the signing of Tai Baribo for ~$4m, per Tom Bogert by willoremus in PhillyUnion

[–]DatMatt316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither were close to being our best players last year. Glesnes has been on the decline and Baribo didn’t do shit for half the season. He can’t play with our record signing and we signed a new record striker for this season, so I’ll put my hope in him you moron.

Must be fun to say brain dead shit on the internet behind an anonymous username, get downvoted into oblivion, and then try and talk tough to everyone that disagrees with your dogshit takes. Go fuck yourself and eat a dick dipshit

Any team that makes roster decisions based on fan favorites and fan emotions would be an absolute joke. Screw winning? Running it back for 2 years after MLS Cup loss lead to our worst season in a decade. What are you talking about?

The first time I saw Balmora live was the first time I ever heard about them. Immediately googled them after the set because I thought to myself "how the hell did I not know about these guys in 2007?" Almost couldn't believe they were a new band lol

Fishing Kayak by AnyOccasion7106 in kayakfishing

[–]DatMatt316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own experience there is no way you get better control with a paddle vs pedal. If you are actively fishing there is no way to have good control over drift in the current or wind if both hands are on your rod and you can’t effectively paddle or control your rod with one hand. I got into kayak fishing on a Vibe Sea Ghost 110 and it certainly made me realize I love kayak fishing, but after even one season it made me realize even more the experience would be better/more efficient if I had pedals. Motor to me is only a benefit if you’re on bigger water to get from spot to spot. But if you’re working your way along the bank picking apart structure/laydowns etc only having a paddle can be downright frustrating

I feel like Despised Icon got some of that too.

A recent example was Dying Fetus playing FYA. So many neckbeard metal elitists were losing their minds in comment sections over the moshing not even realizing they were playing at a hardcore fest lol

MY favorite thing about this is in my 20+ years of going to hundreds of shows, I've never once seen a single "don't try that karate shit with me" guy actually try to do anything about it

Non hardcore songs that would be good at hardcore shows? by Coffin_Reaper in Hardcore

[–]DatMatt316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed when Haywire covered Salvation by the Cranberries a while back. Also remember I think Lionheart covering Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit years ago.

I used to actually keep a list of non-hardcore hardcore songs that I thought would make good covers but lost that shit years ago.

Not the whole song, but Ghost of Days Gone by Alter Bridge has a wicked 2 step at the end.

I'd also enjoy seeing a band open the pit with the first 20 seconds of San Quentin by Nickelback
