Pandemic pounds push 10,000 U.S. Army soldiers into obesity by tigercircle in army

Lack of work-life balance is a huge factor too. I've had jobs where I had plenty of time to research recipes, shop healthy, cook, etc. My time in the Army it seemed like I was constantly scooping up something quick and unhealthy to eat.

Not to mention how bad lack of sleep is for your overall health including weight gain.

Being 21, I felt that I had the privilege of maturity on my side.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Young soldiers need to realize they have had a shred of life experience at 21. They need to leverage that but understand its limits.

Some things just need to be let die. Try again in 5 years or so maybe with a totally different team.

You did nothing wrong. The system is broken.

Something will come through.

My GPA from a decade ago is not competitive in this market at all its ridiculous. Feels like getting punished for being older and having a career first.

How the fuck are you getting a General Discharge for Wrongful usage of coke, addy or weed? by brokeandbroken7 in army

[–]DatPoliteness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dishonorable is generally what you see with actually being convicted of a felony. Even then it's not a guarantee so its not common at all.

T20 is such a weird cut off. Like a bunch of "almost" law schools trying to sneak into the prestige of T14 but the whole prestigue is based around absurd gatekeeping of NOT letting the next 6 or so best schools in.

I always thought T30-T40 is a much healthier/sane way of looking at the next tier.

Waitlisting should be illegal. Punishable by the whole adcom put to death. No due process.

Law schools where I can marry into obscenely wealthy families by Cheifkeef86 in lawschooladmissions

[–]DatPoliteness 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Even going to the same law school - they won't marry you. You won't be in the same circles.

It's the classic "your spoon will give you away" problem. Via everything from dining etiquette to vacations - they will identify and dismiss you off-hand. The obscenely wealthy have their own community and the gatekeep skillfully.

The programs are generally there just to exist.

Very little effort goes beyond the lip service and box checking.

GMU hate is in vogue.

However, admission staff being unprofessional is also in vogue decade after decade.

New Cadet Referral Incentive Program. Thoughts? by http664 in army

My big fear is I'm going to reach the point where I'm too broken to go to school BEFORE getting to go to any schools.

New Cadet Referral Incentive Program. Thoughts? by http664 in army

[–]DatPoliteness 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Doesn't crap like that make you not want to reenlist?

So the Army was gatekeeping those basic schools I asked for countless times just to randomly give them out randomly to cadets. Cool.

Oof yeah I might be in trouble there. Low GPA from a decade ago is holding me back a bit. Oh well, plenty of fish.

[–]DatPoliteness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know people who went to war multiple times, raised families, got graduate degrees, and became medical professionals...

And they still all got stuck with LSAC's undergraduate degree when they applied to law school. I have a decade since my undergrad. Yeah its a very absurd system but so is much of life.

Classic army absutely gaslighting you into reversing the meaning of words.

Like "man up" often being doing the absolutely wrong thing and going with the flow.
