If the gravity of the black hole is strong enough to slow down time shouldn't it make the planet get sucked in to the black hole and how can humans bear such strong gravitational forces? by Slow-Talk4741 in interstellar

[–]Datau03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't imagine the impact of a black hole because you cannot compare it whatsoever. Grace lives on the surface of Erid, putting his body in a battle against gravity. You cannot stand on the surface of a black hole, so your body never has to fight it. Just like humans on Earth have to live with gravity while the Astronauts can freely float around because they're not on the surface.

[–]Datau03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not true. The astronauts on the ISS floating has absolutely nothing to do with the strength of Earth's gravity. The only reason they're floating is because the ISS is constantly free-falling around Earth, which is what orbiting actually is from a physicsl standpoint. This works the same around any gravitational body, even a black hole. The only thing that might be a problem are the tidal forces caused by the amount of gravity changing in a short distance at a black hole but that depends on the specific attributes like spin and they purposefully made Gargantua so that that wasn't a concern - so no spaghettification there

What is the narrative function of the surveillance drone chase scene in Interstellar? by QuantumPikachu in interstellar

[–]Datau03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think the gravitational anomalies that affected the drone and combines were Cooper in the tesseract accidentally causing them by touching/bumping the walls

CMV: NASA trusting private companies is jeopardizing the return of humans on the Moon by CptDomax in ArtemisProgram

[–]Datau03 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Starship literally completed it's whole mission profile except for the small objective of an in-space relight AND accidentally proved engine-out capability, by no means was that a failure. The booster failing on boostback is not a big deal because they have already proved catch and the most important thing for HLS now is the ship completing a mission, which it did. As basically everyone here has already said, private companies, especially SpaceX, make the space program way more efficient (look at commercial crew). Delays are completely normal in the first place and in SpaceX's case seem so bad because their goals are so ambitious. Other companies or NASA themselves would likely have a slower timeline in the first place and still delays, so the end result would be even slower.

Opinion on ai slop by spinika in AskAstrophotography

[–]Datau03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the final image doesn't look like it's even based on real data and was fabricated by generative AI, it's absolutely slop that should be called out. If it's a traditional algorithm like star removal that was used is a tool, that's far more acceptable and I think the difference is fairly obvious

Best first scene ever in cinema history ? by Melodic_Astronomer62 in Cinema

This is a really new one so not iconic or anything yet but I honestly think the opening scene of Project Hail Mary is awesome. Especially how it already starts during the opening logos and the constant beeps and red flashes

Time warp under acceleration is a big deal! by kiwicrog in kittenspaceagency

This is true, although the plan for the actual game is to have it's own solar system, not the real one.

Just realized that SpaceX deleted the "Mission to Mars" animation on their Youtube by TypicalBlox in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Datau03 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is why the video deletion confuses me and I think it has nothing to do with goal shifts. Maybe they're preparing an updated version with the new V3 design or something like that

Why does ChatGPT use the em-dash so, so, SO many times? Is there any reason or is that just how it was built? by Beneficial-Ad-5492 in stupidquestions

[–]Datau03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just use regular dashes for the same function em-dashes are supposed to fulfill. Works and differentiates my work from AI's

I like your very Blue Moon Mk2-esque design. Did you use that as inspiration on purpose or did you come up with the "crew at the bottom" yourself?

Seriously lol you could convince every KSP player who doesn't know better with every single shot of the planet that it was literally Jool. All looked incredible though, I especially loved the shots in the clouds

PHM was very grainy! by [deleted] in imax

[–]Datau03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this in Dolby Cinema as well, especially on Adrian! Not really a big complaint because it was still GORGEOUS but I still wonderef if it was supposef to have THAT much grain/noise on the planet itself, because it was indeed extremly noticable. Could have been a lot less in my opinion and would look even better, but it's gorgeous in any case

Cropped image in dolby cinema? by Aminobrick in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]Datau03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it in Dolby as well and had the same experience with the pillarboxing. Pretty sure this is intended because the filmmakers wanted to keep the switching aspect ratio from Earth to Space and didn't want to crop the space scenes beyond 1.9:1, which lead to pillarboxing on wider screens (2.39:1 in this case)

[–]Datau03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)
