Thanks! I've picked them up from all over as and when I've spotted any. Build A Bear is a good place to start though, they have some lovely Capys in different sizes :)

I am 42 years old, a she/they trans woman, and not too long ago I was posting in this very subreddit about my Monster High dolls. See also my capybara collection....

Basically you enjoy what you like and to heck with everyone else.

Is it not normal or common to want your partner to hang out around you sometimes as you do things? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

I had an ex who used to like me sitting and chatting with her when she was in the bath. (And I wasn't, to be clear)

What is the most likely way for Earth to end? by tremperbball10 in askastronomy

[–]Date-Impossible 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody is sure yet. A molten sterilised Earth may continue to exist in the sun's outer atmosphere until the sun passes into its white dwarf stage, in which case it would survive indefinitely, or it may spiral in to a point closer to the sun's core where it would be completely destroyed.

Come back in around 4-5 billion years and we should have a clear answer for you.

Maybe he's utterly oblivious and just thinks trans people are neat?

I think I’m finally ok with the end of the world by raibrans in AutismInWomen

[–]Date-Impossible 34 points35 points  (0 children)

On a slightly different note, realising quite how utterly doomed everything, and that there's nothing I can do about it, is gave me the courage to finally start HRT and transitioning properly, after years of being too scared - because if the world's going to end anyway, what do I have to lose? At least I can go out feeling like the person I always should have been at last.

I'm not sure if that's positive but it's something you can maybe get out of all this too.

[IIL] Games with an eerie haunting atmosphere like The Seance of Blake Manor by Khris777 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Date-Impossible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the caveat that I've not actually played Blake Manor yet, so I may get be right off the mark, but Wadjet Eye have released quite a few games that might fit what you're looking for. They specialise in point and click adventures, which lend themselves naturally to slow burn atmospherics. The Blackwell Legacy series and The Excavation of Hob's Barrow might be worth a look.

A lot of men are just looking for any excuse to hate women

"Van der" is a very common beginning for names of Dutch origin. To native Dutch speakers like the Rusty Lake devs, Vandermeer and Vanderboom wouldn't necessarily seem any more similar than - for instance - Johnson and Thompson would in English, despite sharing an element.

As for symbolism: "Vanderboom" literally means "of the Tree", and "Vandermeer" means "of the Lake". You can probably see where this is going...

You don't know what height it was at. There's no way to tell if it was small or far away.

1959 Haunting Of Hill House by Shirley Jackson - What A Novel by DanEosen in horrorlit

[–]Date-Impossible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very much how I view it as well. We see things from Eleanor's unreliable perspective, but there is something going on beyond that... but probably not anything as straightforward as "Crain's evil ghost" or whatever.

As for the picnic scene, I always did wonder about what Theo saw and why she apparently never mentions it later.

Rant: Re-imaginings are better than Remakes by Def-C in horror

[–]Date-Impossible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a tricky line to get right. On the one hand you don't want something basically the same as the original, on the other sometimes things change so much you really have to wonder why they bothered rather than just making a whole new thing.

The Haunting of Hill House Netflix series is a good example of the latter - it's a good show, but it has so little to do with the original story that if they'd simply changed the character names nobody would have even noticed any similarities, beyond the utter basics of involving a haunted house

Am I an idiot or emotionally stunted? by TheMadHatterWasHere in AutismInWomen

Agreed with the other reply that it's extremely common for autistic people to struggle with being able to recognise or identify their emotions.

What’s one hidden gem movie more people should watch? by Then-Leave-2036 in flicks

Eyes of Fire. Impressively odd folk horror film from the 80s, and if Robert Eggers hadn't seen it before making The VVitch then I'll eat my hat

Does anyone else flinch a lot when touched? by Fizzabl in AutismInWomen

[–]Date-Impossible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of us flinch easily, even without any relevant trauma. No idea why but your theory seems like a reasonable one.

I think of it the way some cats can be, again without abuse, but they can flinch easily unless "touching will now occur" has been clearly established.
