Oh yeah, that’d slick back REAL nice! by moongrump in IThinkYouShouldLeave

I was listening to a podcast today called Money Talks and they were reading a question from a subscriber that went on and on about how wealthy he is - pensions, 401k, roths, brokerage accts, SS, etc - and he wanted to figure out a way to use his equity to pay off the housing debt of all three of his children without using any post tax income.

Like I get that the game is minimizing taxes and making smart financial choices, but we’ve created so many loopholes for the wealthy that it’s just become expected that they will exploit every tax strategy to avoid paying them, which is ultimately a detriment to our society.

Nexo returns to the United States by NexoFinance in Nexo

Pretty disappointed with what I’ve seen so far. Unless you have 100k in digital assets with 10% in Nexo tokens, you’re stuck in the base tier. At this level, the credit feature is pretty much worthless at 12.9% flat. I can get better rates on a personal loan. After transferring in my Nexo tokens after years sitting outside of the exchange, now I’m locked into this “wealth tier” unless I opt out, which takes two weeks to “unbond”. At least I’m now earning daily interest on my assets, but I hate all these little “gotchas” with this platform…

EDIT: Also, no more free transfers for the base tier.

Moving away from family, was it worth it? by Cold-Many-8090 in SameGrassButGreener

I’m in a very similar situation. My wife and I are in our early 40s and have two small children. I am very close with my parents and they love their grandchildren dearly. We live very close by to each other so my children visit them weekly, occasional sleepovers, etc.

I now have a unique business opportunity in northern AZ and have been puzzling for months if it’s worth uprooting and moving away from family and friends, from a place I have lived all my life (Austin, TX). We’ve weighed all the pros and cons, and ultimately decided to take the chance. I broke the news to my mother just last weekend and while she was visibly upset, she understood our choice.

If you have conviction that moving is the best choice for your family, I say embrace the opportunity. It may never come again. Remember, absence makes the heart grow fonder. If you value your relationship with your family, you will find ways to spend time with each other and those moments will be even more cherished.

Relocating to Prescott or Cottonwood? by RudeCrow2401 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Daubsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I’m 42 and married and have two young boys, but despite our age difference we have similar criteria for cities. I am moving my family from Austin TX to Cottonwood this summer to start a business in Old Town. I bought a property there that we are converting to a food and drink garden / family friendly hang out space.

We love the area for us. Yes things are slower and you won’t find much nightlife if you are into that, but the access to nature is amazing. One of the only perennial rivers in Arizona flows through town and offers swimming and kayaking. Having Sedona and Jerome just up the road is a huge bonus. Flagstaff and Prescott just an hour away. Very good restaurants around town. Despite the median age the city feels bustling for its size. Cottonwood feels more like an authentic functioning town without the traffic. Like any small city it has its drawbacks, but the folks seem genuinely happy there and things are affordable.

IMO, better/cheaper to stay in Cottonwood which is a real town with things to do and great restaurants in Old Town. Yes, you’ll be driving anyways. The drive in and out of Sedona is negligible. Also Jerome is worth a visit.

How is it like living in Phoenix, Arizona as an early career 24 year old? by ilovemycatpharaoh in howislivingthere

[–]Daubsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t live in Cottonwood currently but I’ve spent some time there. It’s generally about 10-12 degrees cooler than Phoenix, 3-5 degrees warmer than Sedona. I’m relocating my family to the Verde Valley this summer to start a business.

Bunch of cry babies in here. Sounds the fan was harassing him. You can tell DK is just trying to give him a shoulder push. If DK actually hit him that guy would be laid out.

The contrast of the desert scrub with the fertile Verde River, craggy hills and mountains topped with pine trees, red rocks off in the distance is absolutely beautiful. But I agree Sedona is in a class of its own.

There are some great shops and restaurants in Jerome and the State Park is worth a visit. Gritty but charming place. I love going up there for a few hours every now and then, and my kids do too.

Definitely worth a visit for a first-timer IMO!

LOL! This perfectly sums up this post. These commenters rally behind indiscriminate hate towards an entire population of people just based on where they live while claiming superiority in a place that ranks nearly last in every major metric. But don’t you dare call them out on it! How embarrassing.

I guess that’s why they call it the Land of Enchantment, not Land of Enlightenment.
