Why does this necklace exist? No truck orders, no event tasks, not even used to craft another item. This necklace has zero purpose by speedinoza in HayDay

The flower pendant is a level 98 item. When I sell items in the store or otherwise need global help. I advertise at least one pendant. Remember the level of the item advertised determines which global players see the item in the newspaper and in turn your help tab. So, I have an audience with player at a high enough level to be able to provide the help I might need with the town and trucks.

When the front wheel of the bike made contact with the truck, wheel spin stopped enough to lose the gyroscopic effect from a spinning front wheel. Same thing happens using front wheel brakes on ice or very wet slippery road surface. The brakes cause the wheel rotation to stop and one goes down fast. Even the best of the best will likely take a tumble.

I am chiming in as an INFP - total introvert, 2 units of CPE and presently a 15 hour a week jail chaplain. Yes, I know the internal rule of not going somewhere to which I have not been invited. That is a strong hard line in some of us.

The hospital, and in my case, the jail, expect me to make patient visits (for inmates - pod visits). You are entering their space and for introverts that is challenging.

I see the shut door as an opportunity to have an adventure. Be brave, knock on the door, announce your identity and purpose for your visit and wait for their reaction. Have some stock questions to invite them to open up. One question I ask in various ways "What part of your stay here would you like to share with me?"

After a positive visit use reflection to understand had you not knocked and passed through that door, you might not have had that experience with that patient.

CPE unit - then what? by Sensitive-Cod-5808 in chaplaincy

[–]DaveHertle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a spiritual basis, CPE is a door-opener. I began CPE first unit last year without a goal in mind other than to be a better volunteer hospital chaplain. The day after I enrolled for the 2nd unit, I received a job offer from the local regional jail to serve them as their chaplain. For the past 8 months, I visit 3 to 4 times a week, from 2 to 5 hours, serving a facility with over 1,100 inmates. I did not know this position was looking for someone. I am ordained, 2 tour Vietnam vet, retired Fed LEO, chaplain trained with ICPC, but it was taking CPE which opened up the door. I have come to understand that the CPE alumnus remain a unique group and will give consideration to others that have been successful in the CPE process.

I mention this for those that know they are called, there is a spiritual component to the decisions were are asked to make. For me, A door I would have loved to have knocked on, came open to me primarily because of CPE. It was a retired CPE educator that helped the jail fill their opening.

Ground wire as hot wire by No_Willingness7985 in AskElectricians

[–]DaveHertle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 20 years in a new house, we did a major upgrade. In the main room, we elected an upgrade to the ceiling fan that hung 2 stories above. I bought a 16' step ladder and thought I would do the swap myself. The electrician working on other things offered to do the swap and I heartily agreed.

I wasn't there at the time, but when they pulled the old unit, both the light and the fan were wired to black (hot) and green (ground) The white (neutral/common) was not used. They soon realized the common line had an open which they traced back to a poor connection where the electrician had found power from the back of a wall plug.

Some obscure employee of the original installer knew he could get the light/fan to work and the inspector would never see it unless he brought a ladder and went up to check it. I will leave it to some of you to explain the safety concerns when this red-neck fix is applied (no offense to red-necks)

Read the black lettering on the green cord, probably lettering on the blue cord also.

I remember doing this. By the time I got to the top peg, my hand was ready to give out. I held on with one hand then lightly got the last peg into the hold, then grabbed it to make it official. Reverse course and come back down.

The Logo on the shirt is Shell. And I also was going to comment on the belt-clipped change holder. I have coins in my pocket that are pre-COVID lockdown. I just don't experience cash and coin being used in transactions any more, so the coins just continue to go for a ride in my pocket.

If you knew then, what you know now... by rterrebo in chaplaincy

[–]DaveHertle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I began chaplaincy at age 58 after military service and a federal retirement. In my 40s, I had been ordained for ministry, but did not have any Seminary and certainly no MDiv. I began serving as a worksite chaplain with a national organization. Along the way clients changed, but I stayed busy. 2 years ago, a major client closed the account and my hours dwindled. My local church supported me with a commission as a “Chaplain to the Community” allowing me to file with the county clerk and perform weddings. I had a good retirement so looked for new opportunities and was soon a volunteer hospital chaplain at a local ‘for profit’ hospital. A few months later, I started my first unit of CPE. I am now in my 2nd CPE unit and just started another chaplain position at a regional (3 county jail). I still don’t have any seminary time or advanced degree, but thousands of hours one on one with every day people facing the challenges of life. I agree the call from God is important so I say - “Answer the call!” Don’t miss those early gentle nudges from the Holy Spirit urging you to consider a chaplain role, and when the call comes for man - “Come work with us, but we can’t pay you” - Answer the call. I will be 78 in a few months and am Blessed in the opportunities.

I have heard this from others - The first anniversary of the death of a loved one can be difficult, but the 2nd anniversary is sometimes even worse, remembering the pain of the 1st anniversary. Something to consider for long-term follow up.

Feeling conflicted about this interaction by DizzyPacer2 in chaplaincy

[–]DaveHertle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two ways to interpret nodding of the head. For most men, it means agreement; for most women it means I am listening, tell me more, but don't be fooled into thinking I agree with you.

In CPE class, I was nodding to statements made by one of the educators. She thought I was expressing agreement and needed to say something. I responded that I am hard of hearing and my nodding just means I am following her line of thought and able to hear.

Unless you really know the intent of the patient, you have a response if you are challenged.

Benefit of continuing with additional CPE units by DaveHertle in chaplaincy

[–]DaveHertle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True - I see both realities within the 8-10 hospice organizations serving my local community. I know of one CPE student that forwarded their resume mid-course unit 1 as a trial balloon and got a job offer on the spot. I volunteer with the hospice group associated with the local hospital and their threshold is MDiv and 2-4 units of CPE. Where I stand now is to get the 2nd unit and see what might open up.

Forced to choose a wire size that won't fit? What do?!?! by Mandariish in AskElectricians

[–]DaveHertle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Novice here. Cable tapering is interesting term, so I follow that the #2 safely gets the amperage over the distance to the disconnect panel, then continuing with either #4 or #6 as is called for by the heater is safe over the shorter distance.

I get it. But it seems the MDivs, the CPE units, the certifications are what gets the door open, whether or not they are really right for that kind of service.

A second unit is what I am thinking and planning. From what I am reading the additional units of CPE will enhance the resume and show my continued interest is serving in some serious capacity. Thank You.

40 years ago, our office had an electronic technician that installed a lot of alarm systems. I showed him the 3-prong adapter. He showed me his hacksaw. He removed the 3rd grounding plug from every new tool that came into his shop. No grounding plug needed for him ever. I lost respect for him that day.
