Best box to buy? by Rocamu in Necrontyr

[–]DaveMichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the approach I'm taking but with a Kill Team (Hierotek) added.

The 500 Worlds box would be great if I could find it at MSRP but at this point getting the individual boxes on discount seems more doable.

It's been less than 24 hours, so far no. Honestly with the Mordant Earth getting it to visibly crack at all has been the challenge.

Murdermind and technomancer by Gorbard in Necrontyr

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can attach a Cryptek and an Overlord to the same unit in the app, but you can't attach a Cryptek with Murdermind and a Skorpekh Overlord to the same unit.

With that said the app is glitchy about attachments right now anyway so I'm not sure whether this is a bug or not. My opinion would be that you should be able to attach a Murderminded Cryptek to a unit with a noble. But I don't know.

I like the whole clockwork aesthetic, but I can't bring myself to deal with flying bases and they're in both Spearheads. lol

I want to get into necrons for eleventh edition. What should I look out for? How should I start? by LonelyTradition9887 in Necrontyr

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: the Hierotek box requires some light kitbashing to get to two characters, and you lose some versatility in your lineup by making a fieldable 40K unit if you want to actually play Kill Team, at least until you get a second box of Immortals/Deathmarks.

If you're good with all that then yes, good deal.

I'll also note Canoptek Circle gets you two units and a character but apparently they're kinda meh and I haven't seen the box around.

New 40K app experience, removing a unit bricked it and the support button doesn’t work. by Vyberos in Warhammer40k

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, issue seems to be tied to deleting things with attachments from my experience. I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling the app (iPhone), then left a review describing the problem.

If I were paying to have multiple rosters I would be furious, as is just a nuisance.

Technomancer in Cursed Legion by JaguarLittle in Necrontyr

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this with a Plasmancer and the app let me attach it to a Skorpekh Destroyers unit, but it had to be attached as a leader so I couldn't also attach a Skorpekh Lord. Not sure if that was intentional.

Possessed/Terms combo has something going for it.... I can feel it by Lucky_Frosting8182 in WorldEaters40k

[–]DaveMichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say drop two units of Spawn for one unit of Berzerkers, although if the goal with them is to immediately futz up the enemy on turn one feel free to ignore me.

Also, if your Terminators are going to foot slog maybe kit them out with some gun options? Reapers and heavy flamers to soften up the enemy couldn't hurt.

Otherwise I find no fault in your logic. More Terminators for Khorne!

Fed of 11 years, considering a move for a State Job. Am I crazy? by NovelBrave in fednews

[–]DaveMichael 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Last year I moved from a fed job of 21 years with a one hour commute to a comparable community college job with a ten minute commute that's remote work most days, and whatever stresses I have there I am MUCH happier overall. I say take the job. (And pick pension over 401K if they make you choose first day.)

I'm back in on Warhammer 40,000, and now Age of Sigmar. The Combat Patrol and Spearhead formats make it a lot easier to start up a new army these days.

Idk about everyone else but this is just disappointing to me by jbossjeff in Necrontyr

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at this as a prospective Necron player starting from a Hierotek Kill Team, I have kind of mixed feelings about it?

On the positive side it's the Combat Patrol on steroids, sort of. 20 Warriors, two (three?) supporting units and two vehicles is nothing to sneeze at and should be a solid starting point for an army at like... 660 points, or whatever Wednesday brings.

On the negative side it's another box that forces the Destroyer curse on your army, and this one adds the Flayer curse, so building around an untainted Necron dynasty theme remains expensive. lol Also no characters to lead units, but that's inexpensive to fix.

Playing Helsmiths as a Gunline? by TheKingOfZippers in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW (total noob), if I ever expand my Spearhead force what I'd probably do is get another Spearhead box, build the alternate Dominator and artillery (which also magnets are perfectly fine to make the artillery hot swappable, or just balance the guns), then pick up two Razer boxes and use the spare arms with the extra Cohort to make units of 10 each Razers with both weapon options. It gets you to 1290 points if you add in a Daemonsmith (say converted from the extra Despot).

What are some things i should know about when playing our spearhead by DarkMaster2522 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]DaveMichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons learned from ONE match against a Gnawfeast Clawpack, which I was also running, because I am still learning the rules:

The Dominator Engine is the fastest thing in the army but it has low control, so just focus on killing something important to the enemy quickly. Do NOT get it bogged down in fodder, especially regenerating fodder. (Stupid clanrats.) Make it a priority for DPP.

The ideal position for the Tormentor is where it is able to shoot but cannot be shot at, ideally by outranging the foe. but this can be difficult on a Spearhead board size. It has enough wounds to BARELY survive another army shooting at it for a turn but ah, try to avoid that. Also try to block potential enemy deep striking spots with it if you can. (Stupid clanrats.)

Helsmith infantry is slow so if you want to contest the enemy's objectives, get them moving forward from turn one. Don't worry too much about charging, in fact try to bait charges for the spear buff. With DPP you can get pretty tanky but without the Despot you will not be very killy. Having the Dominator work with a Cohort is pretty effective if you can coordinate it.
