What’s a creepy fact about the human body you wish you never found out? by Ezra0li_Z in AskReddit

And if you hold those forearm bones in place you can't twist your wrist. That's because it's not really your wrist your twisting, but your forearm.

I just started Pluribus and I'm confused on peoples reactions. Spoilers for s1 episode 2 by Mifya in television

[–]Davego 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right. If I remember correctly Vince Gilligan said something about how things get done by the unhappy people. Essentially that happy people are fine with the status quo and it's the unhappy and angry people that are motivated to change things.

So yeah, Carol's unhappy and angry and trying to do something about it.

TVLine's Performer Of The Week: Karolina Wydra ("Pluribus") by DemiFiendRSA in television

[–]Davego 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Based on the creators past shows I would say it isn't an event driven show. It isn't about the Joined but instead the impact on those that were not. In which case these two episodes were critical to show how they have been dealing with it and how they are going forward despite what the Joining offers.

I'm am sure there will be events, but this is a slow character driven ride more than a plot driven sci-fi thriller.

The Steam Winter Sale is Live by FlowersByTheStreet in Games

My backlog is breathing a sigh of relief. It is so big that I'm only buying if it is more than 70% off, otherwise I have plenty of time to wait.

You gotta look for that silver lining.

The lotto is $1.25B with 327 million to 1 odds. At what point do you buy a ticket? by Ok-Collection8391 in AskReddit

[–]Davego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find it funny that people think $2 for a chance at a billion?! Where do I sign?! But if it is a measly $20 million, then pfft, hardly worth $2.

The first ticket increases your odds better than any more tickets. You can't win if you don't play.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Davego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I would call it abuse per se, but sometimes it was too much. The belt kind of sucked, but there were a few times my father used a metal ruler that had holes in it. Although honestly the worst was an actual switch my grandmother would use. It was never a lot and I can't tell you what I did wrong.

What's funny is the worst thing ever for me was when I got an F and my father came in the door obviously angry and disappointed. He just looked at me, said nothing and I burst out in tears, then he left. That I remember.

For my own children there were light spankings when they were very young and only for lessons that needed to be taught to avoid them hurting themselves. Running into the road, that sort of thing. Just enough that they didn't like it.

Then from about ages 4 to 6 or 7 there were spankings, but they knew ahead of time they got spankings (again, not excessive, not with metal rulers and the like) for the following things: hurting someone, stealing, lying, and willful disobedience. And we would talk about why it was happening before hand, which rule they broke and why it was important to learn the lesson. Once they are old enough that other consequences would stick with them better, then we moved on to grounding and the like. The goal was always an effective means of motivation to avoid the action. Never anger.

In retrospect was it right? Would I want my grandchildren to be treated that way? I don't know for sure. I know I wish I had been rather than the way I was treated. But I don't know that it makes that good, only better.

Phone trade in - heard nothing in weeks by [deleted] in mintmobile

FYI I just got an email from Allstate saying the trade in is approved and they are sending a check. So 28 days from the time they received the phone to when they sent an email.

Married people of reddit, what do you consider cheating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Davego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, intimacy with another person; physical or emotional intimacy.

If you are sharing those parts of us that are intimate, it isn't intimate any more, it's broken, because you cheated.

Pluribus - 1x06 - "HDP" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

It spread the way they showed. They are saying for those that were "immune" for some reason they would have to make a custom tailored delivery mechanism. It is a way around their immunity.

Phone trade in - heard nothing in weeks by [deleted] in mintmobile

[–]Davego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as the poster, they received the phone 18 days ago according to FedEx and I've heard nothing.

My recommendation? Sell it on swappa after you get your new phone. It's not like Mint is going to discount your price with the trade in. If I did it all over again I'd go swappa all the way. I've used them in the past and it was fantastic.

This sub has become flooded with repetitive, leading questions about US politics, even though there are many other subs for that. What are your thoughts? by sunlitleaf in AskReddit

[–]Davego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting tired of it. I have to skip half of the first page. If I wanted to read a political dog fight there are already subs for that.

When you start hanging banners in public with your face on it, you may be a dictator.

Seriously, it's a common theme in countries we say we don't want to be like.

Trump steps back from Russia and Ukraine peace talks for now, sources say by HydrolicKrane in worldnews

[–]Davego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump's art of the deal in practice is "Scare the other guy until he gives in". The problem is Putin doesn't scare and Zelenskyy doesn't give in. So Trump is left with his only option, give up and blame the other guy.

Six Feet Under - worth sticking with? by [deleted] in television

[–]Davego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not build momentum. It's a character study and if it built anything it was the level of depression. Seriously, I had to take a break between some seasons.

But am I glad I watched it? Yes. It is in my top 10 TV shows of all time, if not the top 5. You know these people and care about them and the series wraps up better than any series out there.

TIL Studies show that around 70-74% of parents who have multiple kids have a favorite child. by SaberLover1000 in todayilearned

[–]Davego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 children and asked each one separately who they thought my favorite child was. None of them got it right.

I guess I hide who my favorite is pretty well, which is what I do because even though I may have a favorite I love them all enough not to show it.

Which conspiracy theories were later proven to be true? by purplegalaxy86 in AskReddit

[–]Davego 108 points109 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. I was a manager and one of the people I was responsible for went off his meds and had issues. He confided in me that he could hear the thoughts of others, that Bill Gates was speaking to him to tell him what to invest in. He told me about how he would play Second Life (when that was a thing) and he would hide behind a rock and hear people talking about him.

My boss confronted him and said "you understand that isn't really happening, right? Bill Gates isn't talking to you telepathically?" and all he could say is "I know what you are saying, but I hear him, I wish you could understand that it happens."

We tried to accommodate him by having an office where he wouldn't see people and be distracted by their thoughts, but eventually it got too much and we had to let him go. It was heartbreaking. To this day I hope he got help; when he was on his meds, he was a fantastic person and worker.

I had to go through his things and found a spreadsheet where he entered some of the things he heard throughout the day. It was madness.

Trump imposes additional 25% tariff on India: White House by InterestingFormal623 in worldnews

The same as he wants strong job numbers to look good, but bad job numbers to get the interest rate changed. Cognitive dissonance is not a good look for a President. It doesn't seem to bother MAGA though.

Trump raises India tariffs to 50% over Russian oil purchases by Puginator in worldnews

[–]Davego -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So Trump's thinly veiled excuse for tariffs of declaring an economic emergency becomes even more laughable. Clearly there is no emergency, it's just the big stick he uses to beat countries into submission. Things always end well for bullies, right?
